13wo wake up and play during night
« on: June 28, 2007, 22:51:27 pm »
My 13wo lo always woke up at around 4:00 am and became alert. It is hard to put him back to sleep straightaway, what he wanted is just to play. Sometimes, it takes about an hour or even 1.5hr to go back to sleep.

Don't know what is wrong. It is a common behavior at this age? Anyone experienced the same thing?

Could you tell me what his day looks like? Naps, feeds, etc...

Hi, Isabella&Jasmine's mum,

I am currently on 3.5hr EASY, but not strictly as my lo only took 30-45 min naps during the day, and it is almost impossible to resettle.

I start the day at 7:00 am, and activity time is 1hr + 45 minutes (just extended from 1.5hr). I do breastfeeding, supplemented with formula. His bedtime is 8:00 pm.

Till now, he only slept 5-6 hrs stretch three times, other times, I still need to feed 2-3 times. Yesterday, he woke up at 11:30, then 2:20, then around 4:30, he wanted to play (he cried and I couldn't resettle, wait until 5:20, then fed him again, went back to sleep till 7:00).

Really hard to tell whether he is really hungry or just woke up out of habit.

Thanks,
Michelle

If he's only sleeping short naps... that could be developmental. Are you still keeping him awake for the full A time even though he's had a short nap? I would not do a feed at 2.30 if he's had one at 11.30. Maybe try & resettle with shh/pat & then you could do the early morning feed (which I think is acceptable for a 13wo to have 2 nightfeeds).
