quite a few changes - any suggestions to make it easier?
« on: June 28, 2007, 23:47:23 pm »
In the past 2 weeks or so, there have been quite a few changes in DS' routine.  Last week, he didn't nap at all.  This week, we moved him to a new room and a new big boy bed (he turned 3 yesterday), and we've also started the final stage of potty training, which is refusing to give him a diaper to poo into.

I'm trying to get him to have quiet time during the day for about an hour in his room, but it has been difficult.  He either comes out of his room, or stays inside the room and yells to talk to me.  He wakes up around 6:30am now so I know he is tired at that time in the afternoon, but he won't sleep (I realize it's the novelty of the new room).

Last night, he didn't fall asleep until about 8:30ish and was up at 6:30, so is 10 hours of sleep per day enough?  He also woke up around midnight b/c he had pooed in his night diaper so he got changed and it took him a bit to fall back asleep.

Any suggestions on how to make this easier for him and me?  I'm trying to be consistent but it's hard because the schedule change is weird for me too.  We used to get up for the day somewhere between 8-9am and he'd nap for a good 1.5 to 2 hours in the afternoon, then sleep at 8:30pm.

Why did changes start?Did you tweak it or he?

Do you have a time to lie in with him a bit? Until he gets used to new room, maybe be in his room and say, mommy needs rest too. SO he can have his needed quiet time?

And also when he gets up at 6.30 and wont nap, have you trie dto get him sleep 6.30pm?

Well the changes started b/c we made a few changes - new room, new bed and no more diapers.  :)  I tried lying down with him yesterday but that made him even more hyper.  ::)  Today was a bit better, as he stayed in his room and only came out a couple times.  He even went into his room after lunch to lie down on his bed by himself.

Maybe I just need to let him get used to everything and take some time.  I was just wondering if there's anything I can do to help him get into a new 'routine'. :)

All you can do really is to spend time in his room so that he gets used to it. As for the nap, I was wondering that maybe he is outgrowing them? Still, try for quiet time & if he's not staying there, would you be willing for him to have quiet time next to you? On the lounge & he might even take a snooze that way??? If he's not napped for the day, I would do an earlier bedtime, so perhaps 6.30/7pm rather than 7.30pm.
