17 weeks old stuck between 3.5 and 4 hrs routine
« on: July 02, 2007, 19:04:17 pm »
My LO is 17 weeks old. He currently went through a growt spurt and a tummy bug, so our routine gor screwed up a bit. He used to be on a  3.5 hrs routine and then we tried to put him on a 4 hrs routine because he started to wake up early every time and didn't take much at his feedings. His eating got better he would eat 6-8 oz of EBM with every feeding but his naps got screwed up. He just couldn't do 2 hrs A time. He got overtired every time and went down very hard for his naps, usually screamed bloody murder for 30 min and arched his back, etc. So we changed the routine back to 3.5 hrs. He sleeps like and angel again, but he doesn't eat good and keeps waking up early in the morning. Any ideas how to fix this?  ???

hi

well, with all sicknesses it takes time to recover so no wonder he's not 'back on track' yet.
if he's happy with 3,5 routine in terms of naps/sleep- let him do that.
but if he's not hungry at 3,5hrs mark, you need to wait a bit after he wakes up and don't feed him straight away but maybe after 30min or so upon waking.
so you'll have AEASAEAS kind of routine.
does it make sense?

Yes, it does. I wasn't sure if that would mix him up more. But I guess the point is to squeez some A time between feeding and sleeping to make sure he doesn't associate the two, right???  ???

he shouldn't get too confused I think.
he's on his way to 4hrs EASY anyway so it's just the transition time for him now. which too shall pass ;)

good luck

Also keep in mind that many bf babies do not make it to a full 4 hour EASY.  Most babies don't reach 2 hours of A time until 6 months or so.

Proud to have breastfed for a combined total of 35 months

Cool, I'm from Hungary, Budapest. I love Poland!  :-* Allthough I only have been to Warsaw and Krakow. (I hope I spelled the names right)  :-[

There is a bridge between Hungary and Slovakia now so you don't have to take the ferry, but I think they still have the ferries as well. Right now we live in the US and have not been home for 2 years.  :'(
I hope to go back and visit next summer when my LO gets a little older.  ;)
