Dairy free diet and bread
« on: July 11, 2007, 19:06:38 pm »
Hi all

preparing to go dairy free for a few weeks to see if it helps my lo's wind problems..... gosh its tough isn't it and such respect to all those of you who have stuck with this for your lo's ;D ;)

anyway - I am trying to avoid all hidden dairy too of course. But would like to have some bread! I believe allot contain dried milk but have found a few brands on tescos website which claim to be ok for vegans - they contain soy products but appear to be ok milk wise

Is this correct / ok? If not can anyone help me with UK brand bread I can eat so I can stock up, dont want to fail at first hurdle

Thanks

yeah thats the type of thing I was looking at!!

Its just that things I read implied bread was really hard to find but perhaps this was the soy element so I am ok to eat?? I appreciate that soy intolerance can go hand in hand with dairy but thought taking the risk was ok? views appreciated

Can I also ask a novice question - whats the difference between allergy and intolerance..... ???

As far as i am aware an allergy usually produces a reaction such as rash, breathing difficulties etc wheras an intolerance causes things such as gas bloating the runs, etc ....

You could always try removing soy aswell if going dairy free does not work for your lo. Hopefully just dairy free will work as it gives you more choice and is much easier.

When I am in the UK I usually find most granary type breads to be fine for MSPI diets. Marks and Spencer are great because they label all their foods withy common allergens but it's depressing picking everything up to see that it contains cows's milk but their currant buns are milk and soy free and also delicious  ;)

Thanks to all :)

Have written myself a (reasonably) big list of meals, snacks etc and getting it in so I don't feel deprived when on the diet and cave in easily!!

an M&S SIMPLY FOOD  has just opened up the road so expect will be popping in there soon.... :D
