Catnaps
« on: July 12, 2007, 13:50:49 pm »
Hello i was wondering at what age do you stop giving the catnap? I am having problems putting him to bed at night and i think it is cause he needs a catnap he is 7 1/2 month old. So when did you stop giving your baby the cat nap?

Most babies are ready to drop the catnap by 7.5 months. If you can post your routine we can see if you need any adjusting.

This is my 7 1/2 month old sons Easy plan i have a very hard time putting him to bed at night he cries and fights it allot more then his naps he cries and fights it for about a half an hour or more. but for his naps he only fights for the most 5 to 10 minutes and then he is asleep for about 1.5 to 2 hours. but most of the time 2 hours. if you think i need to change something then please post the suggested Easy please.

5:30/6:30am wakes and plays happily in his crib
7am 7oz bottles
7:15 to 8am activity
8am breakfast 4 tbsp cereal and 2 tbsp fruit
8:15 to 9am activity
9 to 11am sleep
11am 7oz bottle
11:15am to 12pm activity
12pm lunch 2tbsp meat, 2tbsp veggies, 2tbsp fruit
12:15 to 1pm activity
1 to 3pm sleep
3pm snack 2oz juice and cheerios or 2 to 4 tbsp yogurt
3 to 5:30/6pm activity
5:30/6pm dinner  2tbsp meat, 2tbsp veggies, 2tbsp fruit
6/6:30pm time with daddy
6:30 to 7pm bed time routine (bath, bottle 7oz, book, bed)
7pm bed time

Am I correct in seeing that he is on two bottles now? I think your routine looks good for the most part, but I would make a couple small tweaks like so -

6:30am wakes and plays happily in his crib (5:30 am wake is not enough night sleep for his age)
7am 7oz bottle
7:15 to 8am activity
8am breakfast 4 tbsp cereal and 2 tbsp fruit
8:15 to 9am activity
9:30/10 to 11:30am sleep (I'd try and limit this nap to 1.5 hours)
11:30am 7oz bottle
11:45am to 12:30pm activity
12:30pm lunch 2tbsp meat, 2tbsp veggies, 2tbsp fruit
12:45 to 1pm activity
2 to 4pm sleep
4pm snack 2oz juice and cheerios or 2 to 4 tbsp yogurt
4:15 to 5:30/6pm activity
5:30/6pm dinner  2tbsp meat, 2tbsp veggies, 2tbsp fruit
6/6:30pm time with daddy
6:30 to 7pm bed time routine (bath, bottle 7oz, book, bed)
7pm bed time

Small changes really, but it would round out the routine so that he doesn't have such a long time awake at the end of the day.

How long have you been doing solids? What you listed seems like a lot of his age, unless you've been on solids before he was 6 mo. I wonder if maybe he's getting gas or tummy upset.

we have been on solids since he was 4 1/2 to 5 months old cause he was drinking a lot and was still hungry and he weighed 22 1/2 pounds he also has acid reflux and his doctor wanted me to give him bottle after solids but then he was not drinking the bottle so i went back to bottle before solids and then he started to drink it. so yes i was giving him solids a month to a month and a half early plus i had to start giving him rice cereal in his bottles since he was 1 1/2 months old. But that was another question i had posted in feeding solids how many tablespoons of each food group do i feed a 7 1/2 month old weighing 24 1/2 pounds. he is a very very big baby. and let me make sure i have this right i basically need to put about 3 hours in between his naps so that way he is not up for a long time during the evening?

I see, ok then he's probably adjusted to the solids by now then. We started early too due to the reflux.

So yes, I'd shoot for about 3 hours. You might need to slowly increase the time by 5 or 10 minutes if he can't handle the change all at once.

ok maybe you can help me on his solids then also. how much should i be feeding him i believe its no more then 8 tablespoons of each food group a day cause that is what i am finding on most of the stuff i look at that i am able to find and that is the feeding recomended by 8 to 10 months and i was thinking since he started early and he is so big that i should go by that what do you think?

Here are links to a few threads that might help you. I think you're doing fine for having started early, I think I was doing much the same at that point but it's hard to remember :-[   If he's eating it all and not getting over-gassy then I'd say go with the flow.

ok how does this EASY plan look.

5:30/6:30am wakes and plays happily in his crib
7am 7oz bottles
7:15 to 8am activity
8am breakfast 4 tbsp cereal and 2 tbsp fruit
8:15 to 9am activity
10 to 12pm sleep
12pm 7oz bottle
12:15am to 1pm activity
1pm lunch 2tbsp meat, 2tbsp veggies, 2tbsp fruit
1:15 to 2pm activity
2 to 4pm sleep
4pm snack 2oz juice and cheerios or 2 to 4 tbsp yogurt
4:15 to 5:30/6pm activity
5:30/6pm dinner  2tbsp meat, 2tbsp veggies, 2tbsp fruit
6/6:30pm time with daddy
6:30 to 7pm bed time routine (bath, bottle 7oz, book, bed)
7pm bed time

Also i thing he is just right for his food after looking at the post because the amount of each meal is only less then a 4oz jar of baby food cause a 4oz jar has 8 tablespoons in it. so thank you so much for all your wonderful help. how does my easy plan look now?
