Trouble at bedtime!
« on: July 22, 2007, 23:58:08 pm »
Hello,
my lo has just learned how to stand up in his crib and now it is impossible to put him to bed cause he just won't stop standing up.  No matter how tired he is, it's like he's compelled to keep standing up.  He won't stop.  How do I get him to settle down and go to sleep?   He was getting so good at going to sleep and then he learned this!!  What do I do?

Help please!

How old is he?  Does he know how to get back down himself?  Is he upset if you leave the room?  What you pretty much end up doing is leaving the room.  My dd plays in her crib for about 20 mins before falling asleep - standing, crawling, kicking, etc.  If he gets upset when you leave the room you do a version of wi/wo (I believe in the pu/pd faqs) - you leave, he cries, you walk in, lay him down, coo sweet nothings, walk out, repeat until he stops crying.

My lo is 6 1/2 months old.  Over the past week he has learned how to properly crawl and now pull himself up into a standing position.  And now he wants to pull up on everything.  Unfortunately he does not know how to get down yet.  I suspect once he figures that out things should calm down again.  But I have to say this transition has really disrupted things.  For the past week he has started waking up every 1.5 to 2.5 hours all through the night.  I do my best to resettle with out bf but sometimes thats all he wants.  So he is getting at least 3 feeds a night right now.  And waking up even more.  I don't know what to do.
Oliver has never been the greatest sleeper but before this all started he was sleeping about 4-4.5 hours at a time throughout the night.  Which I really felt was progress (he would eat at 11-12pm and then 5am ish) I was really good with that but now he is waking all the time and I don't know how to get him back to sleeping longer.

His schedule is as follows
7:30/8am awake & bf
9 breakfast (fruit and cereal)
10-11/11:30 nap
12 bf
1 lunch (veg & cereal)
2-3:30/4 nap
4 bf
6 dinner (veg & cereal)
7ish bedtime routine starts (quiet play, book, sometimes bath)
8 usually asleep

I have been doing the wi/wo method and it sort of works.  What worries me  the most is because he doesn't know how to get down once he gets up he falls and bumbs his head.  I don't want him to hurt himself.  Is there anything I can do to soften the blow?
Any advice would be great.

It usually only takes a couple of days for LOs to figure out how to get down, spend some time playing with him in his crib, and show him how to sit back down and such...your routine is looking great, how much is he eating?  Is his wakings from hunger at all?  Sometimes they get used to eating at night so don't eat as much during the day...

I can definitely understand that you would want to get this sorted out - that is a lot of NWs!  And I suck on no sleep so I can definitely relate, LOL!  :D
