I totally forgot about our early wakings that happen when daddy goes to work.  So today was 5:30, seems to happen often on daddys work days as that is when he leaves, she hears him up and wakes for the day.

But good news is, we gave nurofen for teething pain last night and there was no crying in her sleep!!! ;D Well, only once, and it had well and truly worn off by then, so another dose, and she was right for the night!

Re phone disturbing mummy naps - Zara doesn't sleep through the phone at nap time, so we use the "do not disturb" function on our phone - that means no disruption for mummy too!

Lila - Zara was very anti sleep when she started walking, so i found it best to watch cues, early bedtimes if need be, some days were two naps, some were one.  See how you go, it does settle down after a while.

Also, have any of you noticed that your lo has very noticable growth spurts (in terms of eating, sleeping AND growing all being noticable different) now that they are over 1?  My lo didn't have any really noticable ones when she was small, but her 12 month was brilliant - she slept, she ate, and I got to buy her new clothes.  At 15 months, she did it again - ate really well, slept pretty good (not as good as 12 months) and she grew out of all her shoes :o

Oh crap, our 1 nap run had a big hiccup today.  we've done fairly well until today.  we were on day 3 of 1 naps (longest we do right now).  he was fast asleep at 11:40am but woke at 12:10  :'( :'( :'( :'(  he did not fall back asleep t'll 1:10 and that was with APing (ended up rocking him to sleep).  Awake again at 2 only because I couldn't sit there any longer and he woke the minute i put him back inhis crib.  I was expecting a major melt down at some point in the afternoon, but it didn't happen.  I planned to get him to bed early but it didn't happen (my fault)...so asleep b y 7pm.  I was so surprised as he hasn't done that in such a long  time.   I cannot remember the last time he woke at the 30min mark and struggle to fall back asleep.  We are definitely doing  2 naps tomorrow.   I thought we were well on our way as we had a few later morning w/u's as well....I guess just when you put your guard down, they getcha!

Sorry to hear that OliverRowland  :( When you think all is going well then things just seem to suddenly go wrong for no apparent reason.. and vice versa! We had a really rubbish week last week, waking generally at 5:30am every day, often with NW too. Then finally woke late enough yesterday to do a 1 nap day - had a v over-stimulating day, houseful of guests etc., his one nap was a bit short (1hr20) and it took him over an hour to go to sleep at bedtime. Then he slept til 5:10am, went straight back to sleep after PD, cried out once at 6:10, then slept til 7am.... huh??? Was expecting a really disturbed night last night and definitely an early wake... Maybe it'll show in the next couple of days instead..

Lily seems to be in a new pattern the occasional 1 nap day, very occasional, then she seems to be alternating randomly between 30min am and 1hr15 pm nap and 10/15min am nap and 1.5-2hr pm naps, which although is getting quite complicated for me to follow and planning a days activity can go out the window just like that, but at least she seems to be doing these things herself.  She is also extending her A times which is worrying, as M & Ns mom said sooner or later you just run out of enough hours in the day  ::)

Sooner or later ya gotta give up two naps girl lol

LOL!  I know, but since he only does 3.75h between pm nap and bedtime, I just can't see how I can do 1 nap.  I guess eventually.....

M & N's mom... does he do that 3.75 hours A time between nap and bed and then go straight down, no talking/playing?  I'm still struggling with that... it seems like no matter how much A time I give Kinley, she talks/plays for an hour before falling asleep.   ::)

We've done 2.5 weeks of one nap, with 3 days of 2 naps thrown in here and there.  We're getting there, slowly but surely!  What a process!!  We had the first early wake today (6 AM, early for her LOL) throughout this round, but I'm REALLY trying to watch for OT.  B/c she has a tendency to get there quickly and easily!

Keep at it!!

rinajack - I definitely notice Lily have little spurts in growth now she is older and I never noticed a single one when she was under 1yr and looking at her growth charts you cant make out any spurts on them either, in fact my health visitor said it was the most consistant growth pattern she had ever seen a breastfed baby have, during her career.

UNCMomma - I was thinking about you recently and wondering how you were doing as our lo's seem to have been on similar routines for a while.  BUT, we haven't had any 1 nap days yet  ::)

Yes, at 3.5h he fussed/talked but at 3.75h before bed he usually goes to sleep pretty quickly (within 20 mins most nights).

My DS gets OT very easily too which is why I have kept the 20 min am nap and about 1.5h pm nap.  I guess I'll keep at it until this doesn't work anymore.

Hi Guys can I join your chat....

My LO is 16 months old next week and has been on EASY since she was 6 weeks old...  we are thinking of helping her transition from 2 to 1 naps.  Here routine at present is:

7am wake up
7.15 sippy cup of milk
8.30 breakfast
9.30-9.45 depending on the signs nap for around 1.5 to 2 hours
11.30 wake up
12 noon lunch
12.30- 2.30 activity time
2.30- 3 depending on signs nap for 1.5 hours
4.30 wake up
5 pm dinner
6.30 book, bathtime
7pm sleep

We have found that the afternoon nap has got later and we are finding she may wake around 5am for 15 mins then falls back off to sleep.

I suppose the major questions I have is what am I aiming for as an ideal time for the one nap and what should the ideal duration of that nap be?  Currently she has lunch at 12 noon- with one nap only it will impact that time - I think that from what I know of her that the 1 nap will actually be best to start around 10.30, 11 ish as she always seems sleepier in the mornings than the afternoon.  Any advice or guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Eliz

Hi Eliz and welcome to the fun  ;)
Your DD routine is similar to what my DD was doing, she would take 2 good naps a day but the pm nap was getting so close to bedtime it was effecting her ability to fall asleep at bedtime.  What I did at first was to cut the am nap to 45 Min's and then put her down sooner for pm nap say 2.5-3hrs after waking from am nap. So...
7am wake
9.45 nap
10.30 wake her
1-1.30 nap for as long as she wants but no later than 3.30pm
3-3.30 wake
7pm bedtime
At this point you really don't want to try pushing 1nap on her, especially if she hasn't started taking the odd 1 nap day herself by refusing either one of her naps.

In an ideal world when the transition is over you want the 1 nap to fall between 12 and 1pm and last for anywhere up to 3hrs, ending no later than 3pm to give plenty of A time before bed.  I think in reality not many of us have 3hr nappers most nap 2-2.5hrs some less than that and a lot have to actually limit day sleep to max 2hrs so it does not effect with night time sleep.  You are ultimately aiming for 5+ hrs A time in the am and 4+ in the pm.  Watch points to look out for when the transition really kicks in are night wakings & early morning wakings both of which are usually caused by the LO being overtired.  Overtiredness can take a long time to creep in too, some LO's happily switch to 1 nap only to become OT anywhere up to 4-6weeks later.  The final thing to watch for is should your LO do a 1nap day and only sleep 1hr 15Min's for that nap, then that too was surely an OT nap.  Lastly if you have a 1 nap day don't be afraid to put her to bed early if that nap ends too early in pm I always have DD in bed no later than 4hrs after nap be it 1nap or her pm nap

As your LO does a good 12hr night and 3-3.5hrs daytime sleep you may well be one of the lucky ones who get a 3hr nap, time will tell.

Hi ladies,
I haven't read or written in a while.  Hope you are doing well.

Well, DS has been taking a 30-45 min morning nap for a while now.  BUT once again, things have started to change.  He's now staying awake longer.  I put him in the crib after 3.5h, and he just rolls around.  Today I even tried rocking him (b/c he will fall asleep if I rock and sing) after 30 min of him rolling around and starting to get frustrated, and he was still wide awake.  So I got him up, and now I'm trying again after almost 4.5h.

I just wanted to see if anyone has any advice for me.  I'm wondering if I should just increase A time or if I should try one nap (or alternating b/w 1 and 2 nap days).

Right now he usually wakes up b/w 6 and 6:45 am and goes to sleep at 8 pm.  Afternoon nap varies b/w 1.5h and 2.25h.

Thanks for any input you have!

Brooke

Welcome back Brooke!  What time do you try to put him down for first nap?  I know when we shortened the am nap down to 20min i had to increase A time in the morning.

Ds did his 2 naps yesterday.  His afternoon I had to wake him after 2hrs.  He went down really easily for bedtime.  And slept t'ill 6:30am...unheard of!!!!!!  :D :D :D :D :D  He is practicing his walking alot these days so I think it is pooping him out!
1 nap today...out cold at 11:40am...hope for at least 2 hrs?!

Hi Brooke, I think that you should really set your day up so that your son is getting 11hrs plus at night,
so lets say he wakes at 6:30---then the 2naps need to be at the right time and length to alllow him to be asleep by 7:15/7:30pm, this should allow for 2-2.25 in naps total

maybe try 20min am
nap 10:30-10:50
next nap 1-3pm
bedtime 7/7:15, asleep by 7:30 type thing
