Lactose Intolerance?
« on: July 30, 2007, 15:28:46 pm »
Hi.  Does anyone have a lo who suffers from this?  What were their symptoms, if you don't mind my asking?  It's just that I think my 6mth ds may have an intolerance, as he has had runny stools for the past 2-3 mths, often mucosy ... although my gp (and dermatologist - ds also has eczema) disagree as he has gained weight following the 75th centile line perfectly in his red book.  I'd really appreciate some feedback, as am getting concerned about eventually introducing dairy solids into his diet.  Thanks!

Did you ever consider a straightforward dairy intolerance, that would maybe also cause the eczema. True lactose intolerance is incredibly rare and the babe does usually lose weight, whereas with dairy intolerance they get the runs but usually still thrive. Also a milk allergy can come on slowly and not be full blown from birth, which would make sense as your lo has only been like this the last three months

Yup, when we tried whole milk, green runny poo.  She had been on low lactose, partially broken protein formula before this.  She had that for her reflux.  We did lactose free milk for 6-8 months, then tried again.  Seems she just needed the extra time.  She also has eczema, but I have never found a trigger that makes it worse.
