Rash... allergy to egg?
« on: August 04, 2007, 15:36:08 pm »
Hi... thanks for reading. :)  My 17mo ds started off with a sensitivity to eggs, cow milk, AND peanuts after introduction around the 12-13 mo mark.  I just re-introduced whole eggs again (he was fine with egg whites) and within a days time he started with a rash on his thighs, lower legs and now arms (4 days later and he didn't get egg yesterday).  The NP told me that reactions are usually more of a general rash, but I am concerned about it being from the eggs as the onset seems too coincidental.  The first time around when we found a sensitivity to any of the forementioned, he had a rash on his back.  The NP told me to offer it a couple more days, but I am obviously concerned about doing so if this is an allergy.

Any thoughts?  I am probably going to get a referral for an allergist on Monday so we can know for sure.

TIA!
Lena

He is so cute in that picture!

Personally, I wouldn't continue to give my boy a food that seems to cause a reaction - regardless of what the reaction is.  I really can't see the logic in doing so, but I'm not a doctor!

I think holding off on the foods you suspect as being the culprits, and seeing another doctor, be it an allergist or another pedi may be your best choice for now.  Or rather, what I would do.  Go with you gut! :-*

Definately agree with Zoe. If there is a reaction no matter how small then stop until you have seen an allergist or had a second opinion from another paediatrician.

Thanks for the replies.  I had stopped the eggs once I spotted a reaction.  Somehow, I really don't think the NP gave very sage advice to continue with it and see if the reaction got worse.  ??? I dunno.... but I am calling for an allergist referral this morning.

Thanks!

I'm curious as to what the allergist will say, keep us posted if you would please!  :-*
