8mth old crawls herself awake HELP.
« on: August 06, 2007, 19:50:06 pm »
She will fall asleep in my arms or on my bed but as soon as I try to move her to her crib where she is safe she rolls onto her tummy and up into crawl posstion. I have tried leaving the room for 45 min but she doesn't cry or anything she will just play and sign. but if i come into the room she rubs her eyes and starts to get crancky. if I pull her out of the crib and hold her she goes to sleep I wait 5-10 to put her down and flip onto tummy and playing again. PS My 8 month old can crawl like grease lightning and cruise the furniture so she stands up in her crib too.
what do i do??

Have you tried pick up/Put down to get her to sleep.  Every time she gets into crawl position or stands you lay her back down until she falls asleep.  It is outlined very well in BWSAYP.

I don't know what else to suggest!  :-\ :)

I don't have a lot of experience with pu/pd  :-\  I really only used it when DS#1 started standing as he would repeatedly pull up and I would have to lay him back down.  At first he would get more worked up because he thought it was a game but eventually he got the point and it worked well.

Are you talking about naps or night time sleep?  At night you have more time to work with to get the message across.  Naps are a bit more of a dilemma ...  She is definitely too young to be giving up naps completely so maybe she has just reached a developmental milestone that she is dealing with ...  I would try and be persistent/consistent with pu/pd and see what happens.

Sorry I don't have any thing else to offer  :-\  Let me know how it goes though!  :)

Hi,

I agree with Carters Mama.  The only thing I might be able to add is maybe using a bunting bag AKA a sleeping sack.  I used them with both my LOs and it helped them b/c they couldn't move in them as easily... However, they do learn.  For me it got me past the look what I can do stage, then we were able to get back to normal.

It sounds like the REAL issue is that she is used to falling asleep with your assistance (in your arms or in your bed). Perhaps before she would continue on sleeping when placed in the cot but now she's waking herself up.

Can you tell me what her daytime schedule looks like? Does she go down at all independantly? How is she sleeping at night???
