my little routine rebel!
« on: August 10, 2007, 21:08:49 pm »
Hi, I've been working on my 11 month old going to sleep without bf by using the pantley method. this seemed to be working great and my nights are improving - she's waking just once, I've even gotten the odd full nights sleep ;D However, for a few nights now she hasn't been going to sleep as easily as usual with her routine. she wakes at 7/7.30 am so approx 7.30 pm even though she never seems tired, I start her bath etc. but where before I would turn out the lights and she would go straight to sleep after bf, she now sits up and fights out of my arms to leave the room again, wide awake. Her evening nap is creeping later, she fights it untill 5pm so I've tried delaying bedtime till 8ish but she's never in bed before 8.30 lately, what am I doing wrong?
her day goes like this:
6am - comes into my bed & bf
7/7.30am - wakes
8am - breakfast (shes not eating as much here lately)

11am - bf& nap
11.45 - have to wake
12.30/1pm - lunch

3.30 - start trying to give nap
5.30 - dinner
7.30 - bath etc
8/8.30 - bf & bed (hopefully)
thanks,
Dee

hi

so, you're still bfing her to sleep for naps? or is it bf, some activity and nap?
if she goes down for her nap at 5pm what time do you wake her?
why do you have to wake her at 11:45? is it because of your older child's routine?

what I'd do is:

6am - comes into bed & bf
7/7.30am - wakes
8:30am - breakfast
11am - bf& nap
12:30 - wake up
1pm - lunch
4pm - nap
5pm - wake up
5:30 - dinner
7.30 - bath etc
8/8.30 - bf & bed

if she gets up at 7 or 7:30 8pm or so bedtime is ok, you would have to wake her up earlier in the morning to have her go to bed earlier IMO.

what do you think?

Hi Monika,
I've been waking her after the morning nap because I found that if I left her sleep at this stage, the evening one went really late. I find that if she sleeps until 12.30 at this stage, its impossible to get her down at 4.30. Also, an 8pm bedtime would be great but what I'm finding at the moment is that after her bath and bf she sits up wide awake and insists on leaving the room, its always at least 9 these days when she goes to sleep. last night I gave in at 8pm and let her come to my room while I folded clothes (but no excitment with rest of family/playing etc) she was rubbing her eyes so I took back to her room and she was down by 8.45. Should I just insist on keeping her in her room once we've started the routine? she she bf's to sleep at the mo but I am using the gentle removal and it seems to be working.
thanks
Dee

hi Dee.

ok, I see the point with waking her from the nap.
as for bedtime, I'd keep her in her room, alone, if she's not crying.
if she starts crying, you could do some PU/PD [or more like: she sits/stands up, you don't pick her up just put her back down talking to her gently that it's time to sleep etc.] and then WI/WO.
or maybe if you would put her down 15 minutes later than usual would help too?
what do you think?
