22 month old - Bedtime too late?
« on: August 12, 2007, 22:13:30 pm »
Hi everyone

I am looking for some advice on my dd's schedule as I moved her bedtime from 7:00 to 8:00 pm for about 1 1/2 months ago as she didn't seem tired at 7:00, took a while to go to sleep and was starting to wake around 5:45 - 6:00 am.   This seem to help her wake-up time as it moved closer to her normal 6:45 - 7:00 am.

Well, now her naps are bad (1 hour, 1 hr 30 minutes if I am lucky ::)) and she has been waking around 6:15 again.  I am not sure what to make of it so I was hoping others could look at our schedule and maybe help us out?

7:00 am wake and breakfast
9:00 am 2:30 snack
11:30 lunch
12:00 nap until 1:30 if lucky
2:30 snack
5:30 dinner
7:00 bath
8:00 bedtime

Should I move her nap to 12:30 or so?? TIA!

Does she show signs of being tired at 12:00?
I do think that her A time after her nap is really long.
I might try moving her nap to 12:30 and her bedtime to 7:30.

My DD is 22 mos. also and her schedule is exactly what momofclaire suggested (7:00 am or so wake, 12:30 nap --- usually 1.5 hrs., 7:30 pm bedtime). It works really well for us. If she does sleep a bit longer/later for her nap (not often!) we do a 7:45 bedtime instead.

Thank you both for your feedback.  I will try the 12:30 nap and 7:30 bedtime.  Makes sense.

If the 12:30 nap isn't working for you in a couple of weeks then maybe try moving it again to 1.  All of my friends and I found that at that age a 1 pm nap worked best for us.  We all had your kids in bed around 7:30.

I had dropped all naps for DS1 at 28 months. Although we put him in bed 7:30 to 8 he couldn't fall asleep before 10 and was up at his usual 7:30.  Dropping the nap got us back to a 7:15 bed time.

Well ladies, right now it isn't going too well but I think that is becasue I just cut all the ends of her pacifiers off  ;) She uses them for naps and nighttime sleep and I found myself wanting to finally get rid of them.  She isn't too happy about this and won't even take the pacifier at all, which is good.  But now her sleep has been restless the last two nights and she woke up this morning at 6:20 screaming for me and was a very grumpy girl.

This too will pass, I hope :-\

Could you tell her that it is time for her pacis to be sent to another little girl who needs them?  Maybe if she has some say in it she will rest better.  :-\

Scotty is 22 months and bedtime is 7.30, nap at 12.30 or 1.

Seems to work :)

Good luck  :-*

I thought about telling her that paci story, but I don't know if she would comprehend it ???  It is worth a shot.  I will try that tonight.

I think the 12:30 nap/7:30 bedtime will work for us once we can get past this paci thing.  She was tired last night at 7:30 when I put her down.

You may also check out the props board as there are tons of moms who have weaned the paci.  You might find several ideas that might make it easier on the both of you.

Update - the 7:30 bedtime has been going well. She falls asleep about 10-15 minutes after I put her down. The weaning of the paci seems to be going fairly well.  Her sleep is a little more restless, but I haven't had to go in.

The morning wake-up has gotten worse though. The past 3 days she has woken around 6:10 am.  I don't know if this is due to the 7:30 bedtiime, weaning of the paci or a combo of both...what do you guys think? ???

At 22 months she may only need 11 hours at night.  Many 18 month old do fine with 11 hours of night sleep.  :-\   I know you don't want to hear that!   I would give it a week and make sure her nap is consistant and the paci thing is under control. Then you might think of putting her to bed a little later in order to get a later wake up. I am talking adjust by 10 minutes at a time.

Sorry to keep venting, but the 12:30 naptime just backfired on me.  Since her sleep is restless at night due to paci weaning, she has been waking at 6:10.  So having her wait until 12:30 for a nap isn't working.  She has been in her bed for 45 minutes fussing and I try and calm her down but she is beside herself.  She is definatley overtired.

It seems like these early morning wakeups are throwing the whole day off and I am not sure what to do?
