I BW my first daughter from about 6 wks on and had great success. I wanted to start from day one with my nb baby girl and have had pretty good success so far with establishing a routine. I rarely have to settle her for her naps anymore. Even though she might fuss and let out a couple of cries, she never continues to cry and it seems to be her way of "settling" herself, if that makes sense. At night it's a totally different story. The last 3 nights, either after her last cluster feed or her dream feed, she will not settle down and cries HARD unless I hold her. She even seems uncomfortable, fighting her swaddle like mad and rooting around. When I do give her a paci, she just spits it out after a few minutes and gets super upset looking for it again, so I've been trying to do without the paci as I don't want it to become a prop. The last few nights she has fallen asleep on my chest while sucking on my pinky. She still seems uncomfortable/hard to soothe even then. Any suggestions as to what is going on? She is on Zantac for reflux, but it seems funny to me that we only have this trouble around this time of night. Do you think I am setting up a bad habit by holding her at night? I want her to do as well as my daughter did so badly, but I feel like we will never get there with the way things are going at night. HELP!!!

I just wanted to send you some ((((((HUGS ))))))))). I think we have all been there at one point or another.

How long does she cry for ? If it is for 3hours at the same time each night then she might be a (and I so hate this word) a colicy baby. I hope for your sake she is not. Is sounds like gas pains. This eventually gets better. Personally I gave my dd Ovol drops for gas. It helped.

Good Luck

The only night I let it go on it went for about an hour, then I decided to let her fall asleep on me because I was exhausted. When it happened the next two nights I did the same thing when I saw her following the pattern from the night before. I do give her gas drops after every feed. She slept so fitfully last night. I have never seen/heard her sleep so fitfully since she's been born. She was passing a lot of gas, and has been this morning as well. Is it common for gas and/or reflux to bother them at the same times each day? I have been wondering if the cluster feeds have been bothering her, throwing her body into a "lactose overload" or whatever. The first night it happened though, I didn't cluster feed her because it's been pretty much hit and miss with them. DH did give her a bottle for the first time however (filled with breast milk, as she is bf exclusively), and then we gave her a bath. She wouldn't settle after her bath. Then last night, she went down fine after her bath and last cluster feed. She woke for her dream feed actually and DH gave her a bottle while I pumped. She wouldn't settle after that. I don't know what's going on. I just believe it can't be a prop/AP issue if she falls asleep fine for her naps, right? She's got to be in pain/overtired or something.

How about not cluster feeding her. It sounds to me like it is alot of gas pains. Sofia had reflux and gas. Remember their bodies aren't used to gas yet. So it takes them time. Just remember to tap her bum when she is gas-y. It helps them to release the gas.

I never cluster fed, I fed her every 2.5 to 3hrs. I did however do the DF around 11pm. She finally did her nights at 8weeks. (5hrs of straight sleep. I was the one who got up. Just to make sure she was breathing ::) I read way too many books for my own good.

After her feed, I would swaddle her and put her paci in her mouth and she would get me up around 2am for another feed. This did not go on forever. At around 4mths of age, I started to give her formula at night. It helped. This was my decision and in no way am I telling you to do this. But it was either have a sleeped deprived stressed out mommy and wife or have a good mother who will be there to nuture.

Good Luck
