Yah for us a nap day meant a 10 hr night at the end, which made him more OT than not napping YK? ::) the end of the 10 is a bit rubbish really

Oh Joy!!!   :P  Hopefully this is another sign we are getting closer to the 'end' of this PITA transition though.  Ugh.

Oh boy…I think we are well and truly on our way to no nap…

M has been refusing his nap at home since just before Christmas.  On weekends, we have been doing car rides to get him to have a nap which usually lasts about 40 minutes to 1 hour. At nursery, he has been capping his own nap at around 45 minutes, sometimes as long as an hour.

His nights have been all over the place.

We have been holding steady with 7:30 and we were getting some 12 hour nights, mostly around 11.5 hours. Now, he’s started pulling very short nights – 10, 10.5 hours. I know he is very OT as his behaviour is starting to suffer…

So…
Yesterday
WU: 6:10am
Nap: 1:00 – 2:15pm
BT: 7:30pm asleep by 7:50pm

Today
WU: 5:50am
Nap – will be around 1pm for as long as he takes
BT???

I’m thinking of leaving work early to go get him from nursery to try and get him down for an early night. I just don’t know how early or how that will go after an afternoon nap?!?!?!

Thoughts?????

I would do an earlier BT for one night and see, I know that we are in the same place and M accumulates OT pretty quickly. With the earlier starts and short naps you 'might' find he sleeps a better night if he goes down more like 7pm. Might be worth a try anyway. x

We had a NND yday and she is tired today but going to stick to waking after an hour and 7/7.15pm BT and see x

Just to let you know that often we had (and still have, after 7 months of consistent no napping) periods of short nights (ca. 10.5 h). They are developmental, and whatever I do does not solve the problem. They pass after a couple of weeks. If I do consistent ebt for few days trying to let him catch up, wu becomes even earlier.
Also, for the 10-10.5 h nights with the nap: it is true that there is a point where nap steals from the night, but what I also found was that occasionally having sleeping spread between nap and night helped F to recover OT, and was actually more resting for him.
Even now, if we have a run of short nights due to some reason (sickness or late bed for holiday) forcing a nap is actually helpful to keep OT at a bay. That said, F never really pulled more than 11 h nights, we had 11.5 immediately after nap dropping, but after few months they went to 11.

this is so true. I did not notice it quite so much with H but M has them quite often for 3-6 days and then goes back to the usual routine....weird!?

well we had 2 NND's in a row Fri and Sat and she was great :)
Slept 6.30pm-7am both times which was fantastic.
Yday I let her nap an hour but think that almost makes her more tired as the day is longer and 1 hour is not that restorative..I would have done 1.5 but DH was adamant to only give her 1. She slept ok last night but bit more restless....

Gahhhhhh... Anyone give me any support for when your LO has a broken overnight sleep (11hrs the last 2 nights) but still won't nap??  We drove for miles today but despite yawns, rubbing and even closing eyes we didn't get any sleep.  Stressing out about tomorrow as this is a repeat pattern of last week and day 5 was hell-ish with mad O.T.

I was sure he'd go out today for a sleep.  :-(

That is great Hun. You will get to a point the nap messes her up more than nnd YK? We suddenly had 10 hr nights on a nap and then a not/ut loop. Maybe see how 2 nnd one nap day goes for now?

(Hugs) honestly I would push through the OT if your getting nap refusals constantly anyway. Opt for quiet time and do EBT if your LO will tack on. Keep them in their room if you can till desired WU, even if you have to lie with him.

Thanks for that.  OK, I might just have to "man-up" (maybe I should say "mum-up" lol) and keep on going.  DS is not a great one for tacking on unfortunately, but I guess eventually he will either nap or tack on, right????!!  Or get to the point he can deal with it better.   :-\

DH agrees but on the days she does nap how much do I allow? That is where I am a bit lost. We cut back to 1 hour per day but this was before the NND's and last night she was def OT. I wonder if maybe to aim for 3-4 NND's per week and then 1.5 on the days she does nap - what do you think?
I would do them Tue and Fri which are her pre school days as weirdly she often nap refuses on those days from OS but an EBT usually works. Then I would do a Sat or a Sun too x

You may need to experiment a bit, maybe try 1.5 and see how she goes. She will be more tired from more nnd YK?

ladies - what time BT? I was planning on a NND today but M fell asleep in the car for 20 mins. Normal BT is 7.15/20pm with a nap and about an hour earlier with no nap. I tend to put H down for 6.45pm. Shall I go for 7pm or do you think that is too late?
