I'm wondering if this is regression Hun...rather than nap dropping :-\ we had nap refusals at this age and it passed...
I'd also be doing SEBT :-*

Sara,  I hope  so!  He's shattered without a nap but I hate the BT drama when he has a long nap.

What was routine before he wanted to nap drop?

He has usually been good with naps, but had major BT refusal. But before all this started, his routine was usually:
WU 7 am
Nap 1-2:40
BT 7:30, asleep by 8

But things have been really mucky since he was 23 months, we had a month staying with my parents, then flew to the states for the summer, had two weeks travelling round and have been in NYC for two months, in a one bed apartment so he's sharing our room. He also had his two year molars come through over this time. We go home in a month and I'm hoping things will go back to normal then, it will be dark later and he will have his own bed in his own room etc.

Anyway, we had a crap night! He was asleep at 5:15 first NW at 5:45- 6 or so, then two more NWs, one short around midnight, the other loooooong not sure of the time, maybe 4:30? Then up for the day at 5:20. So he had a good amount of sleep, but I definitely did not!

I'm at a loss as to what to try today though!

So he has gone from 1.5 hrs or so nap to none? And bt stayed the same? If so, he is definitely OT

I think you have two choices. EBT for a decent period of time for him to CU then work on an 11-12 hr day (12 absolute max) , or try to get the nap back for some days (we currently have 2-3 NND a week with EBT on these days)

Most days he has a nap, but I cap it to 30 mins otherwise we get BT refusal.
A usual routine now would be
WU 5:30
Nap 1-1:30
BT 6pm

If I let him sleep longer he does a day like yesterday, he was really tired so had an early nap and I didn't cap at all:
WU 5:20
Nap 11:30- 12:30
BT 8:20

So the nap robs way more from the night sleep than it gains.

WOW, he really looks LSN if he only has 12 h in total per day at 2 yo... When did you put him to bed yesterday, after 1 h nap? Could it be that he needs like a longer nap and a little shorter night, like 10.5-11 h? Between 2 and 3 my DS was doing 2 h nap and a 10.5 h night and he was very fine with this routine. But if I tried nap capping, he fell into OT very quickly, even with longer nights.

Barbara, that's what has got me stumped, because he never has seemed LSN before. He's always been average to high, but has needed long A times. So he went to one nap early, because he needed longer a times, but was doing two hour naps with 13-14 hour nights for quite a while.
I'm just really hoping it is because of all the change and that we will get back to good naps and indepedent sleep when we get back home.

Hun, is could e developmental...when Z has developmental leaps (and the one at 2 was huge for language) his total sleep needs drops to about 12 .5 temporarily - it lasts about 2 weeks...and during this process I just try to be consistent as they can get OT easily.

At BT is he chatting or crying if he is not wanting to sleep?

It could well be 2yo sleep regression. In all our regressions we had bt refusals and multiple calling back, like he was ut, but if I capped anything he easily became ot.

It's been two months, so is that too long to be a regression?

It could have been regression that propagated in ot or ut/ot. Especially if you moved a lot, so he changes environment soon. We always have a couple of short nights every time we change house.

Yes as Barbara says, it could have been a regression, or developmental and now he is OT

YK I would let him sleep longer for his nap, and keep BT the same and do this for 2-3 days and see if it helps him to CU.

I think that second EAS with late BT is def OT :-\ it's a really tough time!

Ok. I'll try not capping nap and have 6.30 BT and see how we go today!
Thanks so much for all your support- these EWs are driving me crazy!

It depends how long he naps and when he got up thought. If he has a long nap, I would keep the day at 13 h, not shorter, otherwise he will be UT at bt.
