Hi all,

Looking for some guidance on what cheese and yoghurts to buy for LO and from where. I'd prefer Organic milk products.

DS likes baby bell...

Thanks,
Mukta

When DD was a little younger she ate YoBaby yogurts all the time (they're organic and whole milk-based). Now that she's a little older, she's being picky and not so into the yogurt anymore  ::). She likes Babybel too, as well as "string-cheese" (although I usually just buy Kraft string cheese, I'm sure there are organic alternatives). HTH  :)

ditto on the yobaby.
Cheese - V really likes the string mozzarella cheese made by Sargeanto.  It is the most expensive string cheese, and it doesn't really "string" very well, but it is her favorite as she can hold it and eat it herself.  It is whole milk, and doesn't have quite as much sodium as some of the lower fat varieties, but I don't think it is organic.  I did find another brand (can't think of the name, and am too lazy to go look in the fridge) that was cheaper, and had a tiny bit less sodium at our local Wal-Mart, and it was loads cheaper.  I think it is better tasting than the Sargeanto, but V won't eat it!  So now I am getting to eat it, and she's back with the expensive cheese.  She's a picky little booger :P

Thanks ladies.

DS liked yobaby but suddenly has grown off it. And I do like Babybel and works well but wa shoping to introduce some new flavours.

Is there any 'non processed' kind of cheese as well. I am not a big Kraft fan...but ideally would like something like their strings..which he could eta on the run.....might just try it out.

Vadensmom, will try the string mozarella, DS does not like ordinary mozarella, its a bit to soft and stringy for him, IYKWIM, though I love it :D

btw which is the most reasonable place to buy Babybel..we get it at Trader Joes and its cheaper than jewel or Dominicks...

I give DD cheeses made by Organic Valley, around here the best selection is at our Whole Foods.  She too 'grew out' of YoBaby a few months back ... but will DEVOUR any yogurts in "tubes".  We always have a stock of the ones made by Horizon and Stonyfield.  Both are organic ... not whole milk ... but at least she's eating it ...

hmm will have to try Havarti, DS is a funny sort of chap, he doe snot like the cheese getting soft and mushy in his hand as well!, as a baby he loved cheddar but has now changed tastes.

Also like the yogurt at home idea..since we always have loads of plain yogurt at home, it will reduce wastage as well...

melluap, we love Stonyfield as well, its just so amazingly creamy!
now for some grocery shopping fun!

thanks all.

Meghan won't eat yogurt either, but will drink (strawberry only) yogurt.  I give her the Yoplait kids Dora with DHA added one.  She only will drink it with a straw, not in a sippy!

My kids all like shredded cheese.  I just buy whatever looks good, usually sharp cheddar because that's what I like, and shred it for them.  They also all love to get cheese samples at Whole Foods.  They'll eat just about anything if it's cut into tiny cubes on a toothpick.  LOL  Sometimes it's more about the presentation than the taste.

The cheddar cubes that you can buy.  Kraft makes one, and also a few store brands.  She picks her yogurt by color these days.  Sooo, the tube ones with kiwi watermelon.

Lucy eats Dannon All Natural Yogurt.  It does have sugar in it, but nothing artificial.  She isn't a huge fan of cheese or milk, so this is the main way I get calcium in her diet.  She also drinks orange juice that is fortified with calcium.  She does like the Kraft singles cheeses, but they gross me out and I won't eat them so I don't want her to eat them either.  It is hard work trying to make sure she eats healthy things that are not laden with high fructose corn syrup and sugar.  Good thing she loves fruit!

We buy the organic string cheese from Horizon for DD and the large containers of Stonyfield Farms' plain whole milk yogurt--she eats a lot of it. She'll eat most cheeses if they are shredded or melted on stuff but doesn't like cubes of stronger tasting cheeses.

Hi Mukta-
I suggest trying Cabot cheeses from Vermont- there's a lot of variety in flavors and the milk is from smaller family farms. We like Yobaby, too.
what part of the country do you live in? Here in New England, there are a good amount of smaller farms where you can get local goat cheeses, etc...
I too avoid Kraft b/c of their use of nonfood grade products (not kidding) in some of their products. yuck.

Only visited Chicago once- neat place! There was a great gormet store right along the lake- I wish I knew where- but they had nice cheeses there. I know it was near the Rehab institute of Chicago- I don't recall if they had local cheeses- it's been 7 years!
