me too :)

It's so reassuring to see what other toddlers eat. I think mine eats as much as yours (except Finn...;D) or a bit less. Nothing to write home about though! And usually if she has a good breakfast, she'll have a smaller lunch and vice versa. Most times, dinner is good!

Today:
B- 2/3rds of an egg, a slice of nectarine, a few blueberries and two dates
S- strawberry mum mums
L-not sure, maybe some tuna, fruits and whatever else she feels like having
S -
D- probably chicken, pasta, fruits

vegetables...a bit of a challenge here ::)

B: boiled egg and toast, musli
L: Bits of pork rib, prawn, runner bean, cooked red pepper, courgette, chips, cheese and tortilla (all from mine and DH's meals at TGI Fridays)
D: A few spoonfuls of spaghetti and hummus, sweet potato, (not really interested after the first few spoons of each), all of a pot of fromage frais

Title: Re: What Did Your Toddler Eat Today? Part 7

Today
B: cereal medley (rice crispies and CN cornflakes) with milk, slice of toast (half with ginger honey, half with jam), banana & strawberry smoothie
S: banana, water
L: we were out so DD shared DH's and my 'brunch' - bits of sausage, bacon, fried egg, baked beans, herbed potatoes, grilled tomato & mushroom
S: couple of bite-size sweet puff pastries, juice
D: couple of mouthfuls of 'courgette' lasagne (made with a courgette-like squash) but refused to eat anymore  ::), banana, water

I *think* the growth spurt (if that's what it was) is now over as DD hasn't really seemed interested in dinner the past couple of days.

Hi Sarah!

Another good food day here, especially for dinner. We spent the afternoon at the beach, so he worked up an appetite.

B: roasted potatoes and carrots, most of a piece of toast with butter, cucumber and tomato chunks
S: fresh blueberries, grapes, and mini Mini Wheats
L: 1/4 of a peach, goldfish crackers, strawberries, and some cherry tomatoes
S: Toddler Mum-mums and about half of a Tim Horton's oatmeal raisin cookie (Mama got the other half!)
D: cheddar cheese, most of a low-sodium hot dog weiner, goldfish crackers, a bunch of rice from my plate, zuchinni and red pepper chunks, pickle, sweet corn on and off the cob, and some strawberry ice cream for dessert.

He had sweet corn on and off the cob because I sliced off a bunch of kernels for him to eat in handfuls (he loves corn), and then gave him the cob as well. It was the first time I have done that, and DH and I laughed really hard as Nathan's eyes widened and he devoted himself to chewing all of the remaining kernels off the cob. So, so cute!

Well, we're here, but nothing to write about.

We are well and truly in a rut and DS is refusing more and more foods.  He's been ill though so I'm hoping that things pick up when he feels properly better and when his canines have finished moving around.

I gave DS a corn on the cob this weekend and he ate the whole thing I was really surprised. It was real cute.
Didn't really liosten when Mum said what DS ate today while I was ate work but he ate all of his dinner (chicken and corn and peas and half of mine salmon and grilled tomato.

I need ideas for carbs with meals. He is bad at potatoes and bread. Will sometimes eat pasta and rice if mixed in with sauce.

Nathan didn't wat much today, and was very clingy. Dinner started off well, but half way through he suddenly realized that he hated the food and spat it out, then started throwing handfuls over the side of the high chair. Sigh.

K was like this. Have you tried moving breakfast later? Or reducing the morning milk (if she has)? What about banana so there is a higher carb count?
Title: Re: What Did Your Toddler Eat Today? Part 7
Post by: LucySol on August 25, 2010, 20:52:13 pm
i did cut her milk down for a while which didnt make any diference.i could try that again,im just a bit unsure about that cos D drinks very little fluid during the day so i rely on her milk to up her daily fluid intake. But thinking about it i could give her a little on waking then more after her breakfast. :-\

RE her having it later,we have to be out the door by8.30 to take DS to school and then most of our morning activities are straight from school.il have to see if i can get back to give her breakfast b4 we leave again! il have a think!

She loves bananas but for some reason she wont touch them at breakfast time!! :-\ you know the more i think about what you have said it could be the milk. She has maybe 5oz(is that too much?) at 7.30 on waking and breakfast just after 8.Tho that will have to change when DS goes back to school The alarm will have to be back on and we will have to be up for 7am!!!

Or can you give breakfast at home and then milk after breakfast in the car/on the run? There is no way DS would eat breakfast only 30mins after milk. He needs more like 60 or 90mins gap because we had this problem initially. There isn't rally anything wrong with fruit for breakfast with yoghurt. Do you give a carb snack in the morning? What about a little granola/cereal in the yogurt? Also does she open her bowels after milk? Now DS sits on the potty and consistently opens his before breakfast he is much better.

today:

Breakfast: Blueberry pancake, 1/2 peach
Snack: (we don't usually have but she kept coming up to me going mmmmm mommy so I mean how could i refuse?)  She ate 1/4 of my breakfast which was a cinnamon raisin bagel with butter.
Lunch: Cheese cubes, peas, sweet potato, blueberries and the other half of the peach (we used our fork and spoon. I loaded it and she shoveled it in)
Snack: Strawberries and a cereal bar
Dinner: Carrots, potato pancake (this was a shocker cause she had never had it before), 1/2 container of yogurt and apple sauce.

Today was a really good day eating for us.  She is getting very good at  using a fork and spoon as long as one of us loads it for her :)

Lucy, ITA with KM. DS also has 5 ounces milk in the AM and then breakfast about an hour later. He'll usually only have fruit at that time but then happily eat his french toast or bagel or whatever a bit later while in the stroller/car/shopping cart or whatever. Now this morning he had a good breakfast all at once but we were out and it was more time since his bottle.

Good eating day here.

B: some cantaloupe, few bites toasted buttered bagel, one half a silver dollar pancake
L: chicken noodle soup w lots of veggies, half piece toast with PB
S: few goldfish crackers, homemade banana/chocolate chip/walnut mini-muffin (quite healthy version I made)
D: two homemade chicken nuggets, some mini fusili pasta with sauce, blueberries, arrowroot cookies

Another off day here for food.

B: about half of his omelette (cheese, bacon, and cooked onions and zuchinni), a few bites of toast, and a few grapes... threw lots on the floor
S: a good amount of watermelon
L: a few blueberries, but refused pasta and peas
S: several low sodium Ritz crackers, but refused yogurt Tube
D: part of a low sodium all beef hot dog, a few bites of brocolli salad (brocolli, sunflower seeds, onion, and raisins tossed in white wine vinegar and light mayo), a few bites of corn, one bite of cucumber

Lucy, Nathan is often not too interested in breakfast. He makes up for it later over the day, though.

B - oatmeal with peaches
L - gnocci with tomato sauce, cheese, toast, grapes
S - yogurt, banana
D - fish (did not go well, had to ad bbq sauce), peas (ate a few, threw the rest down to the dog), 1 grape, 4 noodles - maybe the heat here was a factor.

Lucy, have you ever tried french toast for lo for breakfast?  Even when dd doesn't want toast, or eggs, french toast cut in little cubes is always a hit.

Lucy, we have to do breakfast before milk, it was the only way i could get Ollie to eat ANY breakfast at all. He now eats a big bowl of cereal and has milk about 1/2 hour later. Might be too drastic a change though as Daisy will be so used to having her milk on waking now, she might not be too impressed!  :P

Yesterday:-
B- Cheerios, 1/2 a brioche roll
S - not sure
L - cottage pie, yogurt
S - not sure
D - Cottage pie, yogurt, some chocolate buttons

Boring day!  ::)

Catherine-Absolutely! she would not be impressed! She demands her milk as soon as her eyes are open!!

KM-the problem with doing the b.fast so long after milk is that we have a big rush to get up and out to school i dont have time for D to wait for her breakfast.i do try and make sure she has a more substantial snack mid morning but like Amy said nathan does Daisy def makes up for it the rest of the day!

i did cut her milk down to 3 oz this morning and she ate a peice of toast and a few bites of pear so thats an improvement!  i really need to give it more thought!

Thanx for all your help! :-*

Matthew also wants milk right away and DD always did too (though since about age 3.5 or so she hasn't done that). Not a problem with me. If we don't have enough time for a good breakfast before leaving the house we just give it to him on the go! I don't mind that either since the rest of his meals are sitting properly.

Today:

Breakfast: Cinnamon Toast, 1 whole nectarine, bits of banana (which were refused)

Lunch: Spinach pancake, sausage and potato pancake (refused) cheese chunks, sweet potatoes.

Snack: Strawberries, cheerios, yogurt

Dinner: Shepard's pie (completely refused) carrots

Snack due to not eating dinner: Cereal bar and then a bottle of milk before bed.

What do you guys do when your lo's refuse a meal?  I am so torn because she pretty much refuses anything that comes on a spoon unless its yogurt or apple sauce and will not try anything new.

So I spent all day in the kitchen, some baking, and then cooking a few batches of stuff for dd's lunches, hence the items she had for dinner tonight.  All new recipes, so hopefully they will be accepted!

Yesterday:
Breakfast: 4 mini waffles, 1/2 peach. 2 strawberries and some cheerios
Lunch: Ham and cheese sandwitch (1/2) was offered cucumbers and kale but turned both down...instead ate sweet potato chunks and peas.
Dinner: Spinach pancake, tried some chicken and broccoli, more sweet potato chunks, yogurt, blueberries and 2 chocolate animal crackers.

Feel like dd eats ALOT of fruit.  I mean she can eat a whole peach in one sitting if I let her (and sometimes I do)  Is that okay?

Its a frozen organic thing I found in the supermarket.  Its called Dr. Preggor's and they make spinach pancakes, broccoli pancakes and veggie burgers. What I like the most about them is I can read all the ingrediants and know exactly what they are.  My thought was spinach and broccoli are the two veggie's we are struggling to get dd to eat so this was my alternative every once in a while :)

LOVE the Dr. Praeger's products. In fact, making DS one of the broccoli pancakes for lunch today! But you can add pureed or grated veggies to normal pancake batter too. I often add grated zucchini to pancake batter when making them for DS and DD. They don't notice and it adds nutrition!

Hmmm, I like the pancake ideas above.  Have never heard of such a thing.

B - oatmeal with peaches and strawberries.
L - blackbean soup, salmon cake (home-made) refused, bread and PB, strawberries, cheese
S - muffin, banana, small yogurt
D - same salmon cake (well, a new one) - but fried in butter and dipped in ketchup - dd loved it!, 3 spears broccoli, and 3 snap peas, baked mac and cheese, 1 strawberry, 1/2 frozen yogurt tube - excellent dinner - very happy with the veggies eating.

S- breadstick, half a toddler cereal bar
L- fish and spaghetti (not so much the fish, more the pasta), a few pieces of chicken, melon pieces
S - half a breadstick
D- at my inlaws, had some noodles, ontario grapes, a few sweet peas
S - discovered papaya and thought it was the best ever..and really liked guava too (never thought to try it!)

Today:
B - a few bites of french toast (sigh), melon, pieces of papaya I brought back from inlaws and a couple of dates
S- toddler strawberry mummums, half a croissant, half a breadstick

Limping along half heartedly over here! Nathan is on day three of refusing meals one minute and then scarfing down food the next. He is refusing his favourite, and greedily gobbling brand new things. He is teething pretty bad (the sharp little upper ones just popped through... I think they are called eye teeth? You know, the vampire ones.).

When things calm down, I will start posting again. It is too frustrating right now! Ahhhhh... I love him, but he drives me bonkers as well.

Hi Ladies - been at MIL's for a few days - but survived that  ;) Things have been a bit all over the place here but am *trying* to keep feeding DD as 'healthily' as possible . . . that didn't prove as hard as I imagined when visiting MIL as I cooked a couple of meals myself LOL! However we went to a wedding and DD shocked everyone on the table by eating most of what was put in front of her (if not eating it all then at least trying it  ;D) including all the strong cheeses and chocolate truffles (not my idea  ::)) that some of the grown-ups wouldn't touch!

Hugs for all the Mummies and LOs who are sick or teething (or both  :P)  :-* :-* :-*

Here's what I think the last couple of days have been - give or take the odd thing I've forgotten . . .
Yesterday
B: cereal medley (shreddies, rice crispies, few CN cornflakes) and milk
S: mixed dried fruit (sultanas, apricots, cranberries), water
L: 'child's lunch bag' which consisted of: cheese sandwich, small packet of cheese crackers (baked not fried  ;)), fromage frais, small bottle of flavoured water - there was also a small apple but DD insist that 'I no like skin' these days so I ate that!
S: packet of yoghurt coated sesame snaps (3)
D: pork pie, mashed potatoes, mushy peas & brown sauce for dipping, yoghurt, water, home-made blackberry & apple muffin

Today
B: cereal medley & milk
S: not sure - DD was with my Mum, so probably an organix cereal bar from her 'treat tin' - carton of apple juice (I know cos she was still drinking it when I picked her up!)
L: cheese sandwich, grapes, ice lolly, small bottle of juice
S: pack of organix biscuits, finished off juice from lunch
D: potato & chard gratin, sausage roll & mayo for dipping (she does like to have a dipping sauce  ;)), small pot of peaches in juice, mini apple muller rice, water, blackberry & apple muffin

how old is Alice? :) What a fantastic eater!!

She's an 'oldie'  ;) She may well be the OAP of the thread - she turns 3 next week . . . which makes me think it might be time to retire from the thread???

At what point / age is your toddler not a toddler anymore? Hadn't thought about this until now  :o Despite the fact that in the last 12 months my toddler has turned into a proper little person I'd never really thought about when you stop calling them a 'toddler'??

I agree Bernie, you and Alice are fine!

Nathan seemed to be making up for his crap meals a bit yesterday afternoon, so I will post.

B: refused cheese and goldfish, ate a few chunks of nectarine
S: refused rest of nectarine, ate one goldfish cracker
L: blueberries, toddler puffs, cheese, strawberries, and cherry tomatoes; signed for 'more food' so had a second plate of blueberries and toddler puffs
S: vanilla bean ice cream with Mama (it was super hot, and I wanted to get more calories into him)
D: potatoes, mushrooms, and onions cooked in butter and herbs on the bbq, a hot dog weiner, and yellow tomato all dipped in three cheese ranch salad dressing; signed for more so had more potatoes and some pickles; kept gesturing to my plate so I offered him some of my salmon thinking he would refuse it (he usually hates fish)... and he ate half of my piece.

Our dinnertime is going to get more expensive if he has developed more of a taste for salmon! I buy them in four packs, so that throws the numbers off. Oh well. I am happy he ate it... so good for his brain!! I am hoping that today continues to go well with food. I am off to make pancakes for breakie...

hmm experienced mommies - do toddlers get 'sick' of eating something? She barely touched her eggs this morning

B - a few slices of oranges, a few shreddies (which she enjoyed!) and three bites of egg ???

I've made her different things...like pancakes, french toast...but she just turns her nose to it. :(

I'm not an experienced as dd is only 14 months but I do find there are days when she will gobble something and then not touch it for weeks.  I think its her way of keeping me on my toes!
Title: Re: What Did Your Toddler Eat Today? Part 7

I guess with my DD being so 'old' you could say I'm 'experienced' - but as I only have the one LO I still class myself as a beginner LOL!!

I do remember reading or hearing that it's quite normal for LOs to eat one food over and over again til they've had their 'fill' and then not touch it again for a long time - on the other side of the coin tho one point that was put across was to think about it yourself - would you be happy if someone put the same thing in front of you day after day? - At the time I remember thinking that I could eat the same thing over and over again as long as someone was cooking for me I wouldn't care - however, I think what they were trying to say is that we all get bored sometimes  ;)

L- almost a full salmon cake, strawberry, lots of blackberries
S - half a cheese biscuit
D - attempted many things: a couple of bites of chicken, some shreds of meat, cheese bits of a grilled cheese on bread..lots of grapes..

didn't really want dinner. Skipped the afternoon feed but didn't feed much before bed. I wonder if she was "full" from breakfast and lunch! She's such a puzzle sometimes ;D

Thanks ladies..your suggestions and ideas have definitely helped me a lot. :-*

oooh crustless quiche Bernie...sounds lovely. How do you make that?

Lucy - it's Deb_in_Oz's infamous zucchini slice from the menu planning thread  ;) Surely you must've made it by now LOL!!! I've used it so many times - we all love it and it's an easy dish (as long as you've got FIVE eggs!!). I can point you in the right direction if you haven't come across it yet.

Amy - love the new avatar - Nathan looks so grown up all of a sudden! Might be time to update mine soon - as the current one is nearly 2 yrs old  :o Just one of my fave pics of DD and DH tho.

Anyway . . . yesterday looked like this:
B: cereal medley, shared a sliced apple with me, OJ
S: yoghurt covered fruit flakes, water
L: cheese & mayo sandwich, chopped up tomato & cucumber on the side, few frazzles (bacon flavoured crisp type snack for the non-UK ladies  ;)), mini apple muller rice, water
S: fab ice lolly, apple & blackberry muffin, juice
D: scampi, chips & peas with mayo for dipping, home-made blackberry & apple crumble with custard, juice, home-made 'rocky road' (rice crispies, shortbread, marshmallows, etc)

Starting to get appetite back after that horrible virus. Yesterday was:

B: some grapes, half a toasted mini bagel with butter, most of a silver dollar pancake
L: 1/2 scrambled egg with cheese and spinach, some applesauce
S: whole wheat crackers with peanut butter
D: one homemade chicken nugget, sweet potato fries, cantaloupe

Today he ate some grapes then refused challah french toast. Then at a whole Clif Z kids bar. The honey graham. Cool with me since it's super healthy - whole grains, very low sugar, etc. Thinking lunch will be leftover pizza with yogurt (with veg puree mixed in). We may go out for Mexican for dinner.

S: innocent fruit smoothie tube (from freezer), water
D: leftover crustless quiche with fried mashed potato, onion, spring onion & cheese, mayo for dipping, apple & blackberry crumble & custard, water, piece of home-made banana fruit loaf

Today Callum had:

B - Big bowl of porridge, banana
S - none today! fell asleep in car
L - (at friends house playdate) Fish finger, potatoes and peas, tomato sauce for dipping
S - Babybel cheese, banana, whoopie pie (treat from daddy when we got home)
D - Pasta with red pesto and grated cheese, 2 small fromage frais, bowl of strawberrys

Does anyone else notice on playdates and when you go places like soft play its hard to get lo's to eat? In theory he should be starving using all that energy but he just wants to play on and finds at the end he's suddenly starving!

Today:

Breakfast:
Pancake, chocolate chip mini muffins (from daddy) pieces of banana but she was thrilled with it.

Lunch: (at birthday party)
Three large plates of fruit (cantelope, blueberries, grapes, watermelon, honeydew, pineapple, kiwi)
1 slice of pizza
1/2 of a cupcake

Snack: Yogurt, applesauce muffin (from deceptively delicious)

Dinner: Veggie burger, 2 chicken nuggets, was offered carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, and some pork but those were a no go.

I totally noticed that she was not interested in eating until EVERYONE sat down and ate including the adults.  Its exhausting!

Emma, DS is the same way when we are out at the park or a playdate.

Today Nathan had...
B: french toast with maple syrup and some roasted potatoes
S: a banana, raisins, and grapes with yogurt for dipping
L: cheese, goldfish crackers, cucumber
S: toddler puffs, dried pineapple chunks, and mini Mini Wheats
D: chunks of beef from our beef stew, more cheese, pickles, and an entire piece of corn on the cob eaten very carefully and enthusiastically (his new fave food).

DH asked him tonight what he wanted to go with his meat and corn while holding the fridge door open, and DS pointed to the pickles and the cheese. Made things easy!

Hello all!!  Aaron's really taken a growth spurt and has been eating TONS!  DH has added a snack in the AM to tide him over until lunch (so, he's getting a bottle, breakfast, snack, AND lunch all before his nap!).

Today was:

B: an egg over easy (bleh! but DH loves them, so whatever) and toast.  Apparently, Aaron LOVED this which is awesome bc he's hit or miss when eating scrambled eggs.
S: whatever DH gave him
L: chicken pillow (chicken, cream cheese, and green onions in a crescent roll) and a banana
S: goldfish and whatever else DH gave him
D: went out to eat tonight for some Tex-Mex.  Ate some spanish rice, some avocado, some of his cheese enchilada, some chips, some fajita meat, and lots of tortilla.  I don't think he really ate a lot overall, but he never does when we eat out (he gets distracted I think)

Bernie-got it! what oil do you use?

Glad you found it - tho I did think afterwards it would've been quicker for you if I'd just told you which thread it was on cos it takes forever to find a recipe among the 'few' we've accumulated  ;)

Funny you should ask that question - cos the first time I made it I knew that I had all the ingredients but til I started putting it together I'd not thought to ask what kind of oil  :P (I like to have all the details when I first try a recipe  :-[) Couldn't wait for an answer as I was in the middle of the recipe so just made a decision - all I had was olive oil or sunflower oil in the cupboard - didn't think olive oil would be right (not sure why tho!) so opted for sunflower and I've used that ever since - think I would use veg oil but I bought the sunflower oil for a recipe and rather than buy another bottle to squeeze in to my overstocked 'condiments' shelf I just stuck with it, iykwim?

I hope that my 'ramble' answered your question  ;) And now I have one for you . . . have you shared your sausage hotpot recipe anywhere (ie the menu planning thread) and if not, please could you  :-*

Today
B: cereal medley & milk, OJ
S: pack of fruit 'sweets'
L: toddler meal: egg sandwich, small sausage roll with brown sauce for dipping, grapes, mini milk lolly, juice
S: few bits of chopped up plum, juice
D: 'home-made pizza' (made on large flat breadcake) topped with tinned tomatoes, onion, courgette, ham & cheese, mini muller rice, few blueberries, bit of milk to drink, piece of banana fruit loaf

Bernie! So nice to know your name...is it short for something?

Yesterday - nothing to report. Fruits and peas is about all I can hail a victory for ;)

Today so far,
B- 1/4 of spinach pancake, a few bites of omelet (put some rice milk and italian seasoning, she seemed to enjoy it until she decided that was it), a few bites of toast with almond butter, a couple pieces of nectarine
S - a few goldfishes and some toddler puffs
L - let's see ;)

Oh and Bernie, your picture is so precious. I'd love to see how she's grown!

I haven't posted for the last week as we have been away but have enjoyed catching up with all your yummy foods just now. I like the sound of your hotpot Lucy.
I will start posting again now we're back.
While we were in Spain DS tried lots of typical Spanish foods like paella and Spanish tortilla which he loved as well as various fish dishes. The saffron from the paella gave him little yellow, oily lips and it was so cute. He also ate ice cream, porridge, veggies and chips on various occasions.

Yes Amy hotpot is a British thing. I have never heard of it with sausages before we normally do lamb. It basically means meat and veg in a stock/gravy in a big pot in the oven with slices of potatoes on top and cook on a low heat slowly. Or a variation on that anyway. The meat and veg are all soft and have absorbed the flavours from the stock. Delish!  :P

Our menu today was:
B: Cheese omlette and marmite and butter on toast
S: A pot of fromage frais
L: (At a birthday party) Various bits of - Cheese and onion quiche, cranberry chicken, Morocan cous cous, pizza
D: Banana porridge

Just realised we had practically no veg! Whoops!

Bernie! So nice to know your name...is it short for something? Oh and Bernie, your picture is so precious. I'd love to see how she's grown!

Pleased to meet you  ;) Yes Berni is indeed short for something . . . Bernadette  :P Have never liked it and nobody calls me it - apart from my parents who used to use it when I was growing up - but only when I was in trouble LOL! It's a good name for shouting when you're being naughty  ;)

You might just get to see how Alice has grown very soon - as my big girl is about to be three  :o I will try and capture her personality and reveal the new and 'grown-up' Alice  ;)

Lucy - thanks for sharing the hotpot recipe, does sound very quick and easy - was expecting it to be more like the oven baked dish Cadie's Mum mentioned . . . hotpot always makes me think of watching Coronation Street when I was younger - Betty's Hotpot was always served at lunchtime in the Rovers (yes, I really am old enough to remember Betty working in there  :P)

Cadies Mum - sounds like your LO made the most of his holiday trying out lots of Spanish foods  ;D

Amy - I totally 'sympathise' with you. DH would feed Alice 'inappropriate' snacks all day long if it were up to him LOL! The two of them are so funny and always share their food (might say something about me being too possessive about mine  :-[) especially the 'treats'! DD even now says 'Daddy save me a baby bit' and also saves Daddy a baby bit of whatever she's eating (quite cute really!)

Not complaining but why is there never any consistency!!

PMSL - Because consistency would make life easy  ;)

And now, the reason I came on here to post  ;) here's what yesterday looked like . . .
B: toasted currant teacake (out - hence the lack of cereal medley  ;)) and a couple of 'baby bits' of Daddy's egg on toast  ;), apple juice
S: packet of fruit drops
L: home-made celery & onion soup, bread and butter for dipping, blueberries & creme fraiche, juice
S: mini kabanos (think she's become addicted to them lately!), water
S: (post swimming) apple & pear fruit bar
D: stir-fried chicken with broccoli, courgette, carrot & onion, noodles - only ate a couple of bites so that was the end of dinner  ::)

Been reading along, but haven't had enough time to post for quite a while!

Love what your lo(s) are eating, gives me loads of ideas ;)...we continue to have bad vs.good eating days, guess that's pretty normal :)...we're actually leaving on a resort holiday this Friday and I'm a nit nervous about ds's meals when we're there. Baby food around here isn't really that good, but dh keeps telling me it's for sure we'll find some good things things to feed ds.

So, here's today's meals:

B : Cereal + 1 kiwi
S : Yogurt + Some grapes/nectarine/apple
L : Sausage with orzo & mixed veggies (corn, green beans, carrots, zucchini, sweet potato, yellow pepper, tomatoes)
S : Grapes & 3 biscuits
D : 1.5 Koftas + 1 Yogurt + A few bites of apple

DS is in bed but I am waiting for DH to finish cooking our dinner and this thread is making me HUN-GRY!

We were out all day today.
B: Boiled egg with Marmite and butter on toast
L: Portabello mushroom, tomato, coleslaw, chips
S: Organix tomato slices baby corn snacks
D: Blueberry, banana and apple musli, pot of fromage frais, bits of strawberry

We keep doing a cooked meal at breakfast and lunch and cereals for dinner. Seems strange but actually works quite well as he is often fussy at dinner but likes cereals.

Does anyone have a recipe for French toast? I have had it before but not sure on the exact ingredients or quantities. Thanks.
And sorry it has probably been asked before but what are mummums and goldfish crackers? I keep seeing them but have never heard of them. Cheers.

When I make French toast I put a few eggs in a bowl (2-3 for 3-4 people) with a splash of milk. Whip that together a bit and add a wee bit of salt, or some brown sugar and cinnamon. Dip the bread in for a good 10-15 seconds on each side to ensure proper saturation, then cook over a medium heat until cooked all the way through. Sorry that is not really exact, but that is how I do it!

Mum mums are a rice cracker that dissolve easily in the mouth. They make certain flavours for young babies and other flavours for toddlers. Goldfish crackers are little cheese crackers in the shape of goldfish (for some reason). Both are very portable, and make it easy for a child to eat independantly.

Today Nathan ate...
B: cheese and zuchinni omelette, toast with butter
S: raisins, goldfish crackers, dried pineapple
L: grapes, cucumber, cherry tomatoes, and a bunch of Dada's potato chips
S: Ritz crackers, apple
D: tri-colour pasta with DH's homemade pasta sauce (from tomatoes from our garden!), three little pork meatballs, cheese chunks

Amy - french toast with cinnamon & brown sugar sounds so good . . . for some reason I've never made french toast - have no idea why tho. Am definitely going to try it tho. I think DD and DH would love the sweet version  ;) Also have to say that I'm impressed by the amount of tomatoes your garden in producing - am sure you said on menu thread that you'd made the sausage & tomato bake TWICE with your own tomatoes - and now your DH has made pasta sauce too (would love his recipe if he doesn't mind sharing  :-*) We've got a couple of tomato plants but so far only one ripe tomato (think there is possibly another 2-3 that are just about ready) but at the moment we seem to have an abundance of green ones - not that I'm complaining tho (in fact DH thinks I'm praying for them to stay that way!) as we had loads last year and I made Green Tomato Chutney with them (my first attempt at chutney) and even tho I say so myself it was yummy. I was very disappointed when my three jars came to an end - so at least I've got a back up plan for them if they stay green  ;D

Yesterday
B: cereal medley with milk, innocent smoothie (was offered toasted brioche before the cereal but refused it until she'd had her beloved cereal - must've had withdrawal symptoms after missing out on it the day before LOL!)
S: packet of fruit drops (another addiction  ::) bought them on Friday to try and she's insisted on a packet a day since!)
L: toddler meal (out again  :-[), ham sandwich, babybel cheese, raisins, apple juice, mini milk ice lolly
S: slice of brioche with jam
D: (after first swimming lesson - later than usual and after 30 mins of activity I think she was starving!), slow-cooked chicken with feta, s-d toms, black & green olives, mashed potato & cauliflower, blueberries & creme fraiche, mini muller corner yoghurt, half a large gingerbread man

My big boy ate half my peanut butter protein bar, 6 chicken nuggets, 6 apple slices, 1 bottle of yogurt/strawberry smoothie, 1 bottle of fruit/veggie juice.  Thats it as of 3:33 PM Eastern time.  Fingers crossed on a supper consisting of chicken & veg & rice!

Now does anyone know of a peanut butter bar that isnt a protein bar that a toddler would eat?  I'm not so keen on him eating the protein bars.  Once in awhile I don't imagine would hurt.

Thanks for the French toast recipe Amy. When you say cook on medium heat is that in a frying pan or grill? Excuse my ignorance.
B: Multigrain banana porridge
L: Tomato soup and bread, pot of fromage frais
S: Cheerios with FFCM, some pieces of apple, Few spoons of auntie's veg casserole
D: DH's homemade beef stew (leftovers), carrots, rice

I do french toast similar to Amy. I usually use challah bread and I cut relatively thick slices. I dip them in batter from egg, milk, vanilla extract, pumpkin pie spice and brown sugar and then cook them in a frying pan with some Pam and butter/margarine. YUM.
Title: Re: What Did Your Toddler Eat Today? Part 7

What is challah bread?  That sounds yummy.

Today:
Breakfast: about 2 ounces yogurt smoothie, raisin toast with butter, some bites of pear.

Lunch: Veggie burger, cheese chunks, grapes

Snack: Carrots (refused), toddler cereal bar, strawberries and milk (she drank like an ounce out of a sippy cup for the first time! Usually she refuses)

Dinner: (this was a disaster) Was served: corn, rice balls (chicken, cheese, sweet potatoes and rice rolled in to a ball and then covered in bread crumbs) Yogurt smoothie.  She ate all the corn and drank all the smoothie....she then proceeded to eat some of the french fries from my dinner :(

Mmm, pumpkin pie spice would make it GOOD. And the challah bread would keep it nice and firm (B`smommy, it is a heavy, sweet, dense Jewish bread with lots of eggs in it; often braided). I`ll have to remember to try that!

Bernie, Scott said that to make the sauce he put about 15 peeled and seeded tomatoes in the slow cooker with a chopped onion, some chopped garlic, about 1 tsp of brown sugar, a few pinches of dried basil, oregano, and thyme, salt and pepper, and some meatballs. He made the meatballs by putting a pork chop in the food processor with some bread crumbs, an egg, and a bit of onion powder. He cooked the sauce in the slow cooker on high for four hours while we went out, and then added a small can of tomato paste when we got home since it seemed a bit thin.

Today Nathan ate:
B: thick slice of zuchinni cheese bread, dipped in cherry jam
S: raisins and chocolate chips, Ritz cracker
L: tri-colour pasta from last night (in sauce with meatballs), sprinkled with fresh parmesan cheese
S: a few nibbles while I was cooking dinner
D: chunks of smoked beef, cheese, a few leaves of spinach cooked in butter and garlic, and some butternut squash mash, goldfish crackers; all dipped in ranch salad dressing (even the mash... gross!).

He is so, so addicted to having a dip for his food now. He asked for it for both breakfast and dinner, when he saw that there was none on his plate.

Clif Z makes some healthy, natural bars specifically for kids and I do believe they even have a peanut butter flavor!

Yesterday was:

B: 2/3 piece raisin toast with butter, blueberries
L: half yogurt with veg puree before nap, other half after
S: goldfish crackers
D: few bites veggie burger, some slow cooked Mediterranean chicken, whole wheat penne, arrowroot cookies, cantaloupe

Exactly what Amy said on the challah!

L: sausage casserole with orzo, sweet potato, zucchini, leeks & tomatoes

Here is the recipe:
1/2 cup short-grain brown rice
Nonstick cooking spray
3 teaspoons olive oil
1/4 pound chicken cutlets
1 1/4 tsp salt
1/8 tsp pepper
1/2 cup sweet potato puree
1/4 cup shredded cheese (I used cheddar)
1/4 c buttermilk (I used regular milk)
1 large egg, lightly beaten
1/2 cup spinach or broccoli or butternut squash puree (I used broccoli)
1 1/2c breadcrumbs.

Basically you cook rice as directed and you set it aside
You cook the chicken and then cut it into chunks and put it in your food processor and puree it (you can also just shred it it your child will eat chicken...mine wont)
Then you add the salt, pepper, sweet potato puree, cheese, and milk to the food processor and puree till smooth. (leave the chicken out if you are not pureeing)
Next you pour that into the bowl with the rice and mix it all together.
Then you beat the egg and the broccoli puree (or whatever your using) together.
Then you take the rice mixture and you shape them into balls that you dip into the egg and broccoli mixture and then roll into the breadcrumbs to hide the green

Her next step is to pan fry them for 5-7 minutes until they are golden brown using the spray and olive oil.  I tried this it didn't work well for me.  Next time I might just pop them in the oven to brown them.

* I did bake them this time and they came out yummy. Crisp on the outside and yummy on the inside*

Now when you say puree are you talking about baby food?  And could I use yogurt instead of buttermilk.  We don't drink/use buttermilk around here.  Have TONS of plain yogurt though.  I make it myself  ;D

I took puree to just mean veg that has been liquidised in a food processor. Like you would for baby food, soup or smoothie etc.
Today:
B: Cheese omlette and toast plus 1/2 bowl of porridge
L: Baked beans and cheese with baguette and butter,
S: Yoghurt
D: 2 spoonfuls of lamb mince, onion, tomatoes and peas (then refused the rest), 1/3 chicken frankfurter, a chip and pot fromage frais

To be honest I'm sure yogurt would work but you are more then welcome to try...I just used regular whole milk that I give dd to drink and it worked out because I don't have buttermilk on hand either.  Pureed basically means I cooked the veggies and put them in my food processor.  I did the same to the chicken after I cooked it.  If dd would eat chicken I would have left the chicken chunky but alas she does not so I pureed it like baby food.

I would make a puree just by blending it with our immersion blender (a wand with a blender on one end). That is how I made all of Nathan's baby food too, way back in the day.

B: chocolate zuchinni bread with slivered almonds, raisins
S: toast with butter, peanut butter, and jam
L: meatloaf and 'tater tots' (little potato hashbrown thingies)
S: Ritz crackers
D: about 1/4 of my footlong sub sandwich from Subway: whole wheat bread, tomato, cucumber, cheese, turkey breast, pickles, olives, green pepper, light mayo

S: some raisins
D: some honey-seared chicken from Pei Wei and lots of rice

We're gonna HAVE to do some smoothies with Aaron...if I can get DH to make them since he's at home now during the day. ;)  Do yall add ice for the base, or is the frozen fruit substantial enough?

no ice..I sometimes don't even use frozen berries and use fresh. to get the "froth" you just need milk (or ice cream for those who are so inclined hehe) or rice milk (which makes it taste very flat..doesn't have that frothiness that good ol' milk has).

You can add anything - veggie purees ..avocados..yogurt..etcetc.

Hmm, not a bad idea...maybe that would be the Mommy&Daddy version, though ;)  Although, Aaron has learned to say "ice cream" and requests it at every meal--even if it's been weeks since he's last had it.  Silly boy.

Thanks for the info, Sarah.

The toddler ones are circles rather than the surfboard shape, and have some flavoured stuff drizzled on them. I am sure it is mostly sugar water, but I mean... they are rice crackers. They need a bit of flavour! Although you can also get plain ones.

Breakfast: Scrambled egg with cheese, toast and grapes although dh figured out quick enough that once you give the toast she won't eat the eggs lol

Lunch: Cheese chunks, blueberries, carrots, tried some cucumbers and some crackers

Snack: Cantaloupe, toddler cereal bar, some of my snack mix

Dinner: I made the crust-less quiche but I must have done something wrong because it did not taste right so dh and I had sandwiches and dd had cheese on bread, cantaloupe, some yogurt smoothie, and a pot of sweet potato puree.

The toddler ones are circles rather than the surfboard shape, and have some flavoured stuff drizzled on them. I am sure it is mostly sugar water, but I mean... they are rice crackers. They need a bit of flavour! Although you can also get plain ones.
Ahh, okay.  So, they're pretty much the same texture-wise, just flavored.  Aaron would probably really like those--he loves to crunch through them.

Yesterday went like this:

B: Cheerios
L: garden veggie pizza
S: banana, yogurt
D: four cheese hamburger helper...it's the first time we made it with him, and he picked out all the pasta ::)  Oh, and some green beans and applesauce.

Exactly the same texture, yes. Nathan holds them in both hands and nibbles away like a baby chipmunk. It is really cute! I think that he likes the sound.

So after all I posted before, DS still ate a whole piece of pizza (adult size) and some cantaloupe for dinner. Hungry boy today! Allergy testing is tomorrow. Ugh.

Made these granola bars today that I adapted from a nut free website. They came out really good - DS inhaled one! Next time I may add 1/2 cup chocolate chips - but I wanted to try first without, plus the chips I had are made in a facility with peanuts so had to go without. Yum.

½ cup AP flour
½ cup whole wheat flour
1 tsp. cornstarch
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. baking powder
½ cup butter
2/3 cup packed brown sugar
1/4 cup honey
2 tbsp unsweetened applesauce
1 tsp. vanilla
1 1/4 cups oats
¼ cup wheat germ
¼ cup flax seeds (whole, not ground)
2 cups rice krispy cereal
1 cup raisins

Preheat oven to 350F. Grease a 9x13 in cake pan.

Whisk together the flours, cornstarch, cinnamon, and baking powder. Set aside.

In a large glass bowl, melt the butter in the microwave. Add sugar and beat until fluffy. Blend in honey, vanilla and applesauce.

Add dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix well. Fold in the oats, wheat germ, flax seeds, rice krispies and raisins. I find that using clean, damp hands work best for this job!

Pat dough into prepared pan. Bake for 20-25 min until golden brown. Cool COMPLETELY and then cut into bars. Store in airtight containers or ziplock bags.

Not sure if this is the beginning of being fussy, or teething, but these are our dinners for the last 3 nights

dinner - Wed - rice, roast beef, and broccoli (all faves) - 1 bite - finished with 3 strawberries and 1/4 grilled cheese

dinner - thurs - salmon patties (home made), potatoes, beans (usually loves these) - 1 bite each, finished with a small plum, 2 berries, and 2 bites of my dinner

dinner - Thurs - ribs with bbq sauce, salmon, potatoes, mixed veggies - a couple bites - again, gave dd a few strawberries, a plum, and 1/2 toast right before bed

We've never had this fussiness before - not grouchy with the eye teeth coming, and they've been near surfacing for > 1 month, so I'm not sure if this would affect her appetite?

Breakfast and lunches quite good.

Sorry your LO is off her food marilyn73. DS has also been teething and was not keen on things he normally loves for a few days. I think somethings are uncomfortable to chew and warm things don't feel as good as cold things on the sore areas of the gums. Plus if your LO has a runny nose like DS has had with his teething it can take away from the taste as well as making it more difficult to breathe when eating. I'm sure it will pass soon. Your food sounds delicious and I would have eaten it!

DS has lost his appetite and found a donkey's! He finished absolutely everything he was offered.
Today
B: Tropical fruit porridge, crumpet with butter and marmite, apple
L: Big chunk of duck breast, red cabbage, chips, mushroom and vanilla ice cream

OK so if any one wants a BIG baby this is the diet! Arr so annoyed was told to stop feeding my Ds so much by a complete stranger! Sorry just venting... Any way IDT he eats that much? It's all good stuff anyway!

Cadiesmum - I do the same, I always offer DS my B and L to try as he always knocks back any new B and L meals he’s happy with the same old, same old. The strange thing about DS is he'll eat a different dinner every night - he really enjoys it, as for B and L and S it MUST be the same...

YESTERDAY
B Oatbix, mash banana, buttered toast, rice puffs, prune juice-knocked back strawberries and blueberries and scrambled eggs.
S 2 mums, teething Rusk, water
L vegemite with melted cheese toasted S/W, water and yoghurt
S 1 mango fruit snack, 1/2 rice biscuit, water
D HEAPS of Spanish chicken casserole w/ sweet pot, beans, pumpkin, rice a few bites of my chicken Kiev, lick of my frozen yoghurt, water and prune juice

so annoyed was told to stop feeding my Ds so much by a complete stranger!
Some people just can't help sticking their nose in! What made him/her say that?
Cadan is a little fatty! He weighs 21lbs9oz and is in size 18-24mo vests! He was born on the 50th percentile and now is around the 80th. The HV  said not to worry as he shot up just from BM for the first 6mo and has just continued now he's on solids as well. Like you said Alice, it's all good stuff. Does your LO still have BM or FF or is he all solids now?
Yesterday:
B: Musli with whole CM, refused my crumpets with butter and marmite
L: Cheese sandwich, cheerios, raisins, pot of fromage frais

S: probably strawberries and a piece of brioche

B has always been Big generally on the 95th percentile.
He weighed nearly 3.7 kgs at birth and is currently 12.5 kgs.
He's in size 1-2 clothes and big chubby cheeks. He was exclusively Bf From birth then weaned on to formula, he's having 300mls per day, he drains 2 x 150mls.
You guys knows what he eats! He is just never fed junk food or fast food ever!
I buy fresh and organic when possible and prune juice is only 15 mils at a time he's only allowed water or milk too.
I think becuse I'm small makes him look bigger, if DH ever has him no one comments about his size?
Any way yesterday:

B 1 oatbix 1/2 mash banana, toast, prune juice, said 'no' to porridge  ::) didn't want apple
S 1 muesli bar - (organic oats, rice puffs honey), water
L 2 slices bread with avocado and melted cheese, water, again said 'no' to my cooked tuna, avocado nori/ sushi rolls, water
S 1 apple snack. 1 yoghurt, water 1/2 cruscuit cracker

L - veggies/hamburger soup, toast, grapes, yogurt
S - cheese, mini muffin, banana
S - more grapes, goldfish crackers
D - a few bites of Sheppard's pie, a bit of cheese, 1/2 toast with peanut butter.

yesterday's dinner was refused entirely (pasta with cream sauce, wouldn't even try a bite).  I then made a second dinner offering of pulled pork with bun (what I was having) - had a few bites.  The day before ate a good amount of fish, edemame, and fruit - so I feel like the dinner appetite is all over the place.  Same thing happened a week ago.  Still waiting for the first canine to bust through!  Never a problem with breakfast and lunch.

Said 'no' to French toast and 'no' bluberries
S 1 honey oat biscuit, water, baby chino
L Avocado, double cheese and tomato toastie, water
S mango fruit pot, water, yoghurt 'no' to seedless grapes.
D French creamy chicken, sweet potato and carrot mash, peas, bite of berry frozen yoghurt.

I'm having a really hard time with B and fresh fruit. Mash banana is his only fresh fruit ATM, he's fine with ready made /jar fruit pots/ mashes/ purées. Any Fresh fruit ideas girls?
We've tried apples, grapes, watermealon, peach, strawberries, blueberries, rockmealon, paw paw, mandarins and oranges basically all the fruit mentioned here and in baby food books etc. At least he'll eat vegies I guess?

Ollie's funny with fruit too, he wouldn't touch an apple for months but will now eat a whole one happily, he was into pears as well but wont have one at all now. He wont do grapes anymore and is on and off with raisins - bananas (and apples at the mo) are the only certainty these days. The only advice I have is to keep trying with things, also I think seeing his cousin eat an apple helped with that.

Friday:-
B - Cheerios
S - Not sure
L - peanut butter sandwich, 2 yogurts
S - not sure
D - left over chicken ad chorizo stew, bread, 2 yogurts

Saturday:-
B - rice crispies

D - Cottage pie, 2 yogurts

I think you can class avocado and tomatoes as fruit. DS eats prune and dried apricots too. What about if you pureed the fruit and mixed it with his cereals? Veg is better to eat than fruit at his age I would say. He is more likely to start liking fruit later I think.
Today:
B: Porridge
D: Roast chicken, potato, sweet potato, spinach and carrot, tons of strawberries
S: Cheerios and a pot of fromage frais

Definitely better than yesterday:

B: small piece challah french toast, cantaloupe
L: homemade turkey patty (with grated zucchini and carrots), applesauce
S: homemade granola bar, lots of strawberries
D: small amount pizza, few Teddy Grahams

He's definitely filling up too much on afternoon snack but not too much I can do about it when he's starving at 3 or 4 and dinner isn't until 5:30 or so. So I guess I'll just keep trying to at least make the snacks healthy and actual food when possible as opposed to letting him just fill up on crackers or the like...

Dinner has been rough here lately. DS just wants his bottle by then and cries for it. I end up having to give him a few ounces in his bottle that he self feeds in his high chair so he'll calm down and eat. Thoughts?

Today was:

B: blueberries, banana and raisin toast with cream cheese
L: small amount thai chicken noodle soup and cut up pear
S: veggie straws
D: refused turkey patty unless I put it in applesauce (at a few bites that way), nice amount pinwheel pasta in cheese/butter sauce

Title: Re: What Did Your Toddler Eat Today? Part 7
Post by: Mom to M&M on October 06, 2010, 23:18:45 pm
Yea I think I'm going to have to do that. Just tricky cause dinner is early already (5:30 or so) and I usually feed DS and DD then - and eat with them. And then DH eats around 7 when he gets home. So if I feed DS even earlier, say at 5, it means three separate dinner times for us all! Argh.

He did end up having a yogurt as well while DD had dessert.

That's tough, Karen *hugs*

Does it disrupt his eating too much if you were to let him have a big snack and a smaller dinner?  Sometimes Aaron is like that, too--just ravenous after his nap but then won't eat a ton at dinner.  I just have kind of gone with the flow bc he gets a bottle before bed to fill him up a bit more.

I just hate to see you have to have three dinner times--and one really early one!

*cough* To stay on topic:

B: pancake, 1/2 banana, juice
L: peaches, 1/2 banana, yogurt
S: mum-mums, 2 animal cookies
D: chicken/broccoli/rice casserole, bread, apples, graham cracker, and a couple of bites of ice cream (then finished a full bottle right before bed, the hungry, hungry hippo :P)

I tried that yesterday Sara but then he just didn't really eat much of any dinner! If only DH got home earlier like 6 I could just feed DS early and then me, DD and DH eat together. Grrr...

I had way too many days like that with Marisa, Sara. She was THE pickiest eater EVER until about 2. Slowly got better and now at 5 she's a truly fantastic eater. Had fish burgers and salad with us last night, loves broccoli, eats sushi, etc.

Today was better. Though still screams for a bottle with dinner. Cant' get him to even consider eating without 3-4 ounces handed to him in high chair.

B: small piece challah french toast, blueberries
L: 3/4 yogurt, few tiny bites turkey patty with grated carrot and chopped kale
S: homemade granola bar
D: nice portion fusili pasta bolognese (refused roasted carrots). The rest of us were eating penne with the sauce but he threw a fit (he much prefers fusili or pinwheels). Luckily I had extra plain cooked fusili in the fridge that I was planning to use for soup tomorrow. Then had a few arrowroot cookies before bed

Hi Karen :)  No, we haven't yet.  We just singled out the PB (we couldn't tell for a while if it was that or eggs).  But, I've been thinking about getting him tested lately.  You must have been reading my mind :)
Title: Re: What Did Your Toddler Eat Today? Part 7
Post by: Mom to M&M on October 12, 2010, 02:13:38 am
I would have him tested Sara - can't hurt and PB allergies can be scary. Does it happen right away? If only delayed reaction and diaper rash though it might not show up on "normal" allergy tests. If nothing else, I'd likely avoid PB until he's 2 before trying again.

His bottom gets a rash normally within the next 18h, definitely by the time his morning constitutional comes around (between 7-8 am).  I know this so precisely bc I would only give him the PB&J sandwiches at lunchtime on Sundays when we're at church.  He never ate them at any other time, and now I don't give him any at all.

Do your LOs still eat in their high chairs? I'm thinking of moving to a toddler table and chairs for Just lunchtime and snacks ( I also want to introduce crayons and play dough). How'd your LOs handle sitting at a small table?

B  ::) same old ~ oatbix, mash banana, buttered wholemeal toast, prune juice, few rice puffs, 'no' to mandarines 'no' to scrambled eggs
S 2 mum mums 1 honey rice puff bar, 1 oat biscuit, water, baby chino
L (wolfed down) melted double cheese, avocado SW, 1 yoghurt
S refused yoghurt and fruit pots
D (heaps of) honey mustard chicken caserole w/ rice, carrots, pumpkin and green beans, water, prune juice, few spoonfuls of DHs vanilla icecream

DS sits at our table with a booster. I found he eats a lot better w/o the tray. We don't have a toddler table, but sometimes I will put snacks on the coffee table where he can stand and eat if he wants. He does eat a fair amount, but the problem is he runs around the house eating it, so I have to put stuff that doesn't crumble/stain :) HTH. What is a baby chino btw?

B- toddler cereal, half a slice of french toast
S-pineapple
L- some fish and soft pretzel with tomato/basil sauce
S-pot of apple/prunes, yoghurt
D- lentils with spinach, baguette

Thanks GM!
A baby chino is a Lo's drink served in cafes. It "Looks" like a mini cappuccino so cute! Depending on the cafe it's either just the fluffy part of the milk sprinkled with chocolate or some places make it just like a baby hot chocolate, the good thing is it's always warm (not hot) and B loves having his own "cafe drink" while i enjoy a well deserved late`. The ones served in cardboard T/A cups are the best because it doesn’t matter if they accidentally drop it. ::)

Amy - I can't remember - have you posted your recipe for veggie burgers before? Matty will eat them but I'd prefer not to buy store bought ones with soy protein and all. I can't give him squash, pumpkin or zucchini but happily carrots, spinach, peas, kale, etc!

B: Tropical fruit cereal, 10 strawberries  :o and then finished off his cousin's toddler musli
L: Scrambled egg, beans, toast, blueberries
S: Pot of fromage frais
D: Cod and chips

I know Costa do baby chinos in the UK. I think those ones are just the frothy milk in a cardboard cup. DS has never had one but I would get him one if we ever went there.

Baby chinos sound so cute!!  Aaron would love them...as long as it looks like what Mommy and Daddy drink ::)

B: cheerios...and DH just informed me (bc I am sitting next to him right now pestering him for this info) that Aaron is now able to feed himself with the spoon.  Aww, I've missed that accomplishment :(
L: banana and goldfish.  Not hungry after his big breakfast.
S: a huge cup of yogurt
D: Ham and cheese deli sandwich

Yeah, this kid doesn't do veggies :(

Today was not a great day:

B: fair amount of strawberries, grapes and blueberries and 1/4 toasted whole wheat bagel with butter(started out well here)
L: bit of applesauce and toddler cereal bar (refused homemade hamburger with veggies)
S: apple slices, cheerios
D: small amount penne with marinara, couple smile fries. refused chicken cutlet and broccoli, later had yogurt

BTW - yesterday I had made up this for DS for lunch. He really like it and was a great way to get calcium, protein and veggies into him! I served the sauce over Barilla Plus rotini pasta since he likes fusili and that brand has a nice amount of protein. It made a large portion of sauce, which I froze for future use.

1 jar of prepared pasta sauce
1/4 cup cream cheese (I used lowfat cause that's what we had in house)
1/4 cup shredded cheddar cheese
1 tablespoon olive oil
2 cups steam in the bag frozen mixed vegetables    (I used cauliflower, broccoli and carrots)

Cook whatever pasta you are using and then mix it with olive oil and cheddar cheese. Meanwhile, steam veggies according to directions and heat sauce. In food processor or blender add veggies, sauce, and cream cheese. Blend well. Sauce will be thick. Stir sauce in with pasta and serve.

I must rave about this recipe - easy to find if you google wholesome baby food with broccoli.
A friend of mine made broccoli nuggets for dd and she went wild for them.  Won't eat anything else if there's a nugget in sight -we have to give her the rest of the meal first.
I made my own batch last night and added a chopped sweet potato and carrot.   A definite hit. Freezes well.

Ok, enough of that:
B - shreddies, 1/2 english muffin with PB
L - black bean soup, toast, yogurt, apple slices
S - banana, pear, cheese string
S - goldfish, milk
D - broccoli nugget, salmon cake, quiche off my plate (2nd dinner sitting for dd), a few grapes.)

well today Caleb (who has a love for the pantry) ate this

B: large bowl of oats with soy milk (then stole a cookie off the bench that I left to cool down from baking grrrr)
S: 5 Snax crackers
L: 2 scrambled eggs with some soy milk
S: banana smoothie (the only way I can get fruit into him)
S: 2 more cookies (grr)
S: ice cream cone (empty) from McDonalds as we bought an ice cream and hes dairy intolerant so just gets the cone
D: offered home made healthy chicken nuggets and hot chips, he only ate the chips, then climbed up and ate mine, then went for the pantry, tried offering an apple but would have none of it.

Marilyn, do you have the broccoli nuggets recipe?

Oh my boy is so unhealthy, what happened to my fantastic "I love all things vege" eater....

Jo - have you tried roasted chickpeas with Caleb? Matthew LOVES them - he thinks of them as a snack like goldfish crackers or the like but super healthy - protein, veg and all. I cook dried garbanzo beans (after soaking them overnight) and when tender but not mushy I drain them and mix about a cup of cooked beans with 1 tablespoon brown sugar, 1 tsp cinnamon, 3/4 tsp ground ginger, 1/2 tsp salt and a pinch of ground black pepper. When beans coated well put them on a baking sheet (ungreased), spray lightly with olive oil spray, mix again and cook at 350 for 40-60 minutes, mixing and shaking the pan every 10-15 minutes. You'll know they are done when they rattle nicely on the pan and feel a bit crisp but not too hard.

On topic - yesterday was:

B: half a toddler cereal bar, strawberries, few cheerios
L: half veggie burger with spinach and mushroom, applesauce
S: goldfish crackers, apple slices
D: barilla plus pasta with sauce with hidden veg and cheese, roasted chickpeas (refused chicken cutlet), arrowroot cookies

LOL! I agree!

I think I found the recipe for the broccoli nuggets:

If not, I just made these ones today and they were really good! I ended up eating some myself :)

Those broccoli ones are basically identical to the spinach ones I posted! I just like the spinach ones cause of the awesome nutritional value of spinach - BUT that said, broccoli is super healthy too AND something that my DS doesn't eat much of (DD loves it steamed or roasted). And since he does get spinach in veggie lasagna or homemade pizza, maybe I'll do the nuggets next time with the broccoli.

Thanks everyone - I do try. Some ideas I come up with on my own, some adapted from recipes from online, from cookbooks or from friends. Or compilations thereof!

L: Crab cakes in creamy saffron sauce with rocket and potato gratin plus some ciabatta and pizza crusts and 1/2 of DH's pear and almond tart with chocolate and vanilla ice cream.  (out at an Italian restaurant)

Alice - We pretty much always do cereals for breakfast apart from a few mornings we do scrambled or fried eggs with toast. Cadan also likes toast with butter and marmite. What about a different cereal? Will he eat cheerios? DS likes them dry as a snack. That's a lot of stuff to refuse. Could it be that he just isn't hungry at that time? Maybe he would eat something more substantial at snack time instead?

We have a cold here so I'm wiping the nose between each bite.
B: Refused all but 6 spoonfuls of tropical fruit cereal. Ate 1/2 slice toast with 1/2 scrambled egg.
L: French bread with pesto topped houmous and ham, 3 cherry tomatoes, 1/2 banana.
D: Vegetable pizza with chips. Blueberries. Dry cheerios.

Thanks Cadiesmum... Yes I need to start thinking about a later Breaky and  replacing snacks for breakfast cereal the only problem in we are out in the mornings and he'll usually have his snack in the pram or car or in a cafe with his baby chino. He loves these rice puff honey bars made by Heinz. I'm not too keen on them as I feel they are a little too high in sugar but are very low in artificial rubbish - which is why I buy them. I'd love to give him fruit but he just throws it or squishes it. He would eat more at snack time but I don’t allow it as it will wreck his healthy lunch.
He does like cheerios but eats a few then throws the rest, will keep trying! ???
Thank you

That's great about the carrot Alice. I sometimes put veggies like peppers in the food processor so they are cut up so small that they just hide in the sauce of things like casseroles or bolognese. I might rty the carrot though as it is a veggie I wouldn't normally add to that dish. C eats carrots OK though.

We went to an Indian wedding yesterday so Cadan had a very interesting day tasting lots of new foods. I'm not sure what it was all called so it might be a bit vague.
Yesterday:
B: Multigrain banana porridge (@ home)
2nd B: Onion baaji, vegetable samosa, Indian milk/sugar sweets, few sips of tea (@ gurdwara 10am!)
L: Masala fish, jeera chicken, tofu, yogurt
D: Chollay potato, lamb rogan josh, rice with cucumber yogurt, tandoori naan, tomato and more tofu (was spicy so I cut the outside off). Dessert: Indian sweet flavour ice cream.
It was all so lovely and he coped really well with the spices. I eat mildly spicy foods sometimes so he probably gotthe taste through my BM. I did try to give him stuff without much sauce/spicy coating on though. I had taken a few packs of toddler foods in case he couldn't eat what was served but he did great.

Ali, are you sure it was tofu? Indian cheese (paneer) looks a lot like tofu and has similar texture. Just asking bc tofu is pretty rarely used in Indian cuisine, that could be why Caden liked it so much :) Glad you both enjoyed it so much! Sounds like quite the spread they had there. You will have to post the pictures on the other thread.

Ok, DS's appetite is finally coming back so I will post what we had today.

B- toddler cereal mixed with apples/pears and fermented milk
S- Cheese
L- Butter beans in tomato sauce
S- salami, zucchini pancake (half)
D- Lamb stew with carrots and chickpeas (ate a good sized serving, I was pretty impressed)

Oh yes you are right it was Paneer! It said so on the menu. I just thought that must be the word for tofu as it tasted like that. That's a shame cheese really isn't as healthy as tofu.
Pics are up!

I think DS is going through another growth spurt.  He's been a hungry, hungry hippo these past couple of days:

B: 1 egg, fruit, and some cereal
L: a whole jam sandwich (like, adult-sized)
S: goldfish, pear
D: a whole grilled cheese sandwich, fruit, and a couple of potato chips (which he kept wanting to dip in the fruit dip, ick!)
S: more goldfish that he found on the table

Plus, he's still getting milk in the AM and at bedtime--he drains both bottles.  But these will have to go, and soon.

Sara, Brock is still on 3 Bottles every day Plus good sized meals. He drains all of them so I have no idea when I can drop at least 1! His health nurse said we'd reevaluate on his 18mo check up.
It suprises me how in 1 day he can eat enough for 2 days!!! Then when he's teething or I'll he will only have milk and water and juice.

B sultana bran cereal puffs, vegemite on toast, prune juice plus some of my porridge/oatmeal w banana
S 1 vegemite SW (adult size) water 2 mummums, few bites of spinich ricotta pastry
L Avocado, tomato, lots of melted cheese adult size toasted SW, water

I just worry about the bottles bc his ped gives me a hard time about giving them to him still.  Has since he was 12 mo.  I personally don't see the problem!
Title: Re: What Did Your Toddler Eat Today? Part 7

I wouldn't worry about the bottles.  DS ped also harped on about dropping them exactly at 12 months.  I just didn't tell him he still had them.  Bottles did stop around 20 months though.  If you aren't using them as a prop or for comfort it really won't be so hard to get rid of them when you feel he is ready to.

DS has two bottles a day. About 5 ounces upon waking and 8-10 ounces before bed. Well the before bed one is actually split - he has 2-4 ounces with dinner than the rest later. He doesn't want milk in a cup and I'm not pushing it... He drinks water from a straw or sippy cup, or open cup.

Finally ate dinner. Darn molars

B: half a mini whole wheat bagel toasted with butter
L: 2-3 spoonfuls applesauce, 2-3 nibbles homemade meat patty with carrots and apples, two large cut strawberries
S: half a banana
D: penne with bolognese sauce and bit of cheese (ate good amount but only once I shoved the meat/sauce inside the penne - he doesn't like the way it feels on top of it LOL), Just Apricots, one Golden Oreo

Sarah, she's getting there!  She really is!!  If it makes you feel better, she eats more well-rounded meals than Aaron ::)  Breakfast was the best meal for us, too, for a long time; and then the others fell into place too.

B: raisins and some dry cinnamon life cereal...which DS calls "weewee" for some reason
L: jam sandwich, yogurt bites, and some lemon cookie bites
S: apple slices
D: toast.  We made him an egg over easy (gag for momma), but then had a major set-back when the danishes started smoking in the oven causing the smoke detector to go off.  So he didn't want it because it was cold after we opened the windows and doors and turned on the fan.  Oh well.

Sure thing!

First of all I use the no boil/oven ready lasagna noodles, 12 of them (8 ounces). I've also used whole wheat lasagna noodles and it's good that way too. I lightly grease a 9x13 baking dish and in the bottom of it put a thin layer of marinara sauce, then three noodles on top of that. Meanwhile, in a large bowl mix together one egg (lightly beaten), 12 ounces part-skim ricotta, 1 cup shredded part-skim mozzarella, a few tbsp grated parmesan, about 8 ounces frozen chopped spinach (thawed and drained) and a bit of salt and pepper. Also in a large skillet heat some olive oil on medium. When hot add a chopped small sweet onion, a few minced garlic cloves, about 4-6 ounces chopped fresh mushrooms and a good amount of grated carrot (I used to also add grated zucchini but DS is allergic to squash). Cook that for a bit (maybe 5 minutes or so) then add a jar of quality marinara sauce (25-28 ounces) plus herbs/spices that you want (I usually do dried oregano and fresh basil, as well as a bit more fresh ground pepper). Continue to cook for another 10 minutes or so then allow to cool some. Then on top of the noodles in the dish add 1/3 of the ricotta mixture, spreading well; then 1/4 of the sauce/veggie mixture. Layer on three more noodles and continue with the cheese mixture and sauce and continue that way; topping the final three noodles with the remaining sauce and then another cup of shredded mozzarella and sprinkle on more grated parmesan. Cook, covered in 350 degree oven for 45 minutes, uncover and cook 10-15 minutes more, until cheese is a bit browned and bubbly. Let stand for 10-15 minutes before cutting and serving. Freezes well too!

Course he normally loves it but refused it after 4-5 small bites tonight, having only another piece of raisin toast instead. Le sigh.

No problem Sara! LOVE that picture of your boy!

Today is not going well so far:

B: few bites challah french toast, few blueberries
L: couple bites banana, most of a yogurt (refused cheese tortellini)

Making soy-glazed salmon, roasted potatoes and salad tonight. He won't pick up the salmon but hoping he lets me feed him a bite or two. Otherwise he generally eats the potatoes and I'll make him some sweet potato fries as well.

He did just have two more teeth break through so at least there's a reason for all this crankiness and fussy eating!

Cool Sara - not my style of doing things but I understand her and her therapists reasoning and think it could definitely be good for certain kids. We're plodding along here for now - I tend to get a bit stricter about things after 2 or 2.5 when they can understand a little better...

Breakfast is looking like a couple strawberries (but normally would inhale as many as I give him) and maybe half a toasted whole grain mini bagel with butter.

Both of her boys have severe sensory processing issues (elder is autistic and sensory avoiding; the younger is too young to be diagnosed yet, but is very much a sensory seeker).  I think that's an important caveat to her list...I'm not sure how much I can follow it exactly bc I can't afford to throw away that much food.  But, I'm thinking of how I can modify it.

Yea she had mentioned special needs kids so that totally makes sense and I'm glad it worked for her! With most kids otherwise I think just keep offering and don't make special meals, etc - we can chat about what worked with DD offline (she was WAY picky until 2-2.5 and now is an awesome eater).

Hopefully my boy eats his lunch today since he had very little breakfast - warming up a homemade turkey patty for him now (I make them with a bit of applesauce and nice amount of chopped spinach and carrots). He normally loves them.

The rest of the day was pretty boring but I discovered that C likes wasabi peas! I only give him the half ones that are broken in case he chokes. He helped himself to one from a bowl on the coffee table. He pulls a funny face then asks for more. So funny. DH doesn't even like them and he's into hot chillies!

It literally translates to "fresh cheese." It has the consistency of and look of plain yogurt but I guess would be a little more similar to cream cheese in flavor except less fat, calories and cholesterol :) Here its really commonly eaten as a dessert type food mixed with fruit. Hopefully I explained it alright :) I think it may be hard to find in Canada though.

I'm right there with you Nelliestar. It's really upsetting me/stressing me out - I hate that he's refusing so many foods that he used to eat and love (blueberries, veggie lasagna, broccoli pancakes and more) and having meltdowns over food and going backwards in terms of not using a fork or allowing me to feed him with a fork but not liking certain textures on his hands. Sigh.

Teething doesn't help. Molar #3 made it's appearance this morning.

My one savior lately has been chicken noodle soup. I make my own heavy on egg noodles and carrots. He LOVES it and i can sneak in extra chicken or other veggies as needed too.

Today was:

B: (best meal of the day) couple strawberries, half a banana, two tiny silver dollar pancakes
L: Nothing. Refused yogurt, broccoli pancake and blueberries
S: yogurt, goldfish crackers
D: most of a small piece of raisin toast with butter. refused veggie lasagna, broccoli pancake and blueberries

Le sigh.

*hugs* ladies...it's so hard when they don't eat and you know they want to...but just won't.  Having been through a rough patch of that the last couple of weeks with Aaron being sick and with him being a moderately-picky eater, I've just come to the conclusion that I'll offer stuff.  If he doesn't eat it, so be it.  We'll try again.  That's the plan for now, anyways, when he prefers only dairy, carbs, and fruit.  It's helped alleviate my stress and guilt over it all for the past few days. :)

So, today was okay:

B: cinnamon toast (Great Harvest Bread Co. bread...if yall know what that is!), Life cereal ::)
L: grilled cheese and a bite of mandarin orange
S: banana
S2 (late dinner): some dried cranberries
D: chicken nuggets, yogurt, and a couple bites of my carrot cake

Thanks for the support - we're all in this together aren't we?
Christmas day was horrible food and mood wise - barely ate a thing and  upset - OS I think.
His birthday was 3 days before with all that hoopla so the last 2 days have been VERY low key...
Today was good - happy Mummy...

B - lots of grapes, large fromage frais, half a bagel and PB, water
S - some Xmas fudge, cup of milk
L - turkey meatball, rice, spoon of veg and chickpea stew, Malt loaf, water
S - grapes, twiglets (wholegrain marmite flavoured snack) water
Tea - toast and fruit spread, fruit bar, water
Supper - cheerios and milk,water

Yay!!!

Hope things are going better for the other stressed out mum's of sporadic eaters xxxxx

D: omlette, bread sticks and salsa, chocolate cake (few mouthfuls)
Supper: muesli

Now I have put that down in black and white that is a rubbish day. I will get back on track tomorrow.

B: porridge
S: pink lady apple (still wants the skin off - is he fussy or am I lazy?)
L: 1.5 egg omlette and bread and butter
S: juice, marmite rice cakes
D: tandoori beef/veggies and rice and nann
S: 3 cookies (!)

Has been quite fussy lately. We still fuss with the carb part of dinner. Occasionally pasta and rice if it is hidden in sauce but mostly will eat meat (and ask for it constantly) and leave most of the carbs. Will eat most bread but probably my least fav carb to give him. Am looking out for ideas.

We have a carb problem here too! Bram would definitely like rice with everything if he could. And he does have it...a lot!
He doesn't do potatoes unless they are hidden in a stew and sometimes will have a couple of chips. We are thinking of trying plain cous cous next....x

Cous cous is grat mixed with a bit of yogurt and cumin or with apple sauce and cinnamon- I find it is such a mess otherwise because the bits are so small!!

B: pancake with peanut buttert, 1/4 banana, melon
L: chicken biryani with peas and carrots, yogurt, small piece of naan, grapes
S: 1/2 pear, slice of cheese
D: lentil & kale soup, apple sauce, part of a bun squished into the soup by DS and eaten as mush...
