Zac hates it, like you would not believe. He is cranky all afternoon when I have to wake him, doesn't want lunch, clingy ick! Usually he come right eventually but grizzles for ages and is like a limpet on my leg.
The thing is I have to wake him or BT is chaos and he won't sleep at night and EW. His naps are a good length. I guess I need to work out the best timing to prevent him from waking from deep sleep?
Any tips to make this easier. I usually open his door them leave for a few mins and make a bit of noise in the kitchen, but when he wake it's like he knows I woke him and is ed. :(
Our days are...give or take 15/20 mins each way
WU 7.30
Nap 11.45-2.30 I always wake at 2.30 so if nap is later ie 12.15 he is still woken at 2.30
BT 7.30 sometimes takes 15 mins to nod off.

DS1 was like that, a total nightmare if I ever woke him up (and is only just starting to get better at it now ::)) I know if I wake them at the right point in a sleep cycle (ie 40 minutes) they are a lot easier to wake up and seem a lot less tired, I guess it's cos they are in light sleep then, and that applies to all 3 of my kids. I'm not sure how you could work this out other than sitting an watching him to see when he transitions? Not sure if that's any help... :P

B was a veritable nightmare for waking from naps! When he was a bit older i could make sure I had something good for him to do as soon as he woke. SO I'd go in and wake him and say ''the paints are downstairs, wanna paint?'' I'd be all excited and happy and sure enough he'd come round quicker and be a little better for the reast of the day.

I dread dread dread waking dd1, even when it's just from a car nap, I have a whinging clinging child on my hands, it's hideous!! The only times she's not like that is if we're en route to somewhere exciting or to see one of her friends. DD2 almost always wakes with a smile, bless her, it's unusual for her to be grumpy when she wakes, even if I wake her at 30 mins :)

Awful in this house too, alex hated being woken, still does. I like emma's idea about having a distraction lined up ready.

Amy never minded, Lewis does't mind, Ethan hated it!

Hmm I still bribe with cbeebies, cuddles and grapes/juice.. :-[

Just offering {{hugs}} and sympathy. Before DD2 was 4, I think she woke up happy 10 times... EVER! She is still (at 6) a bear if I have to wake her in the morning (being thankful for afternoon kindergarten this year, but so dreading next year!!). She still wakes most mornings with a whine and struggle. When she was still napping (up until about age 5), it was dreadful to wake her from one. Sorry, no inspirational message there. :-*

LOL Z isnt that bad I guess...poor you! He is good in the mornings but naps are just another story.
This is the kid that never napped well (if at all some bad days) until he was 6 months old. Catching up maybe!
SO I have tried a few things.
1) Gently waking and staying in his room with cuddles to get him awake without having too much too soon IYKWIM. Doest really make much diff.
2) Same as above but change his nappy in his cot (just wet) then getting him up and out to play. Still a grouch
3) Food....getting him up and into the highchair with lunch in it. SOmetimes good sometimes he treats the high chair like the devil ::)
I guess its just who he is ::) Could be worse things, I just feel like such a meanie waking him!
Is there a time between 2hrs15 and 2hrs45 where they are typically NOT in deep sleep?

I am sure you have tried this, but my mum always said to just open their door when they were sleeping and start doing things a little more loudly in the house or start pottering about in their bedroom, so they are actually waking gradually!

Thanks Amy, this is what I do when I gradually gently wake him. it is the best way too! But it's not working that well now, he stays asleep! Or wakes in a crying grumpy mess ::)
