4mo refusing naps: please please help!
« on: October 30, 2009, 21:52:07 pm »
We have been doing baby whisperer since 10 weeks and love it but naps are so hard and are getting worse.  He  turned 4 months yesterday and for the last week has been waking at night around 2 or 3 which I think is developmental and/or growth spurt.  He is also the dreaded 45 minute napper, but I am ok with this, but what I can't take it that he cries until he can't breathe when being put down for his nap.  We shush/pat which works but doesn't avoid the crying.  Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated as I just can't take it anymore, seeing him so upset so many times a day.  It is just making me think of quitting and nursing him to sleep, since at least I know this comforts him.  He is a happy textbook baby unless it is naptime!

Our day looks like this: (I have put activity with eat since we start counting his activity time when he wakes up- he usually eats for 10 - 15 minutes EBF)

E/A: 6:00 (He is ebf so I feed him then put him back in his cot with his mobile and he plays then puts himself to sleep for this nap only)
S: 7:00
E/A: 8:00
S: 9:30
E/A: 10:15
S: 11:45
and so on like this until bathtime at 6:45 with cluster feeding, then bed at 7:15.  He falls right asleep at bedtime and is just perfect.  I dream feed him at 10:30.

Anything I can try?? I have tried putting him in his crib and he cries more, he hates pacifiers, we swaddle him... I don't know what to do and he is so unhappy at nap times!!!

I am also worried about hearing and damaging him with all the shushing.  We have to do it quite loud for it to work, and although w do it past his ear, I am concerned about the long term effects of such loud noise right by his ear.
I am about to give up.

We had the same thing at around 15 weeks, and it eventually got better within 10 days. I have also read many similar stories here happening during these weeks. So I suppose it's developmental and it will pass soon.

Hi there, have you tried playing white noise? we did this instead of shhhing, it was alot easier on me to use it as i always felt like i was going to pass out doing it. also its very soothing for them

also it looks to me like you are feeding every two hours, is that correct? at this age he should be on a 4 hour Easy, take a look at this: http://babywhispererforums.com/index.php?topic=10385.0

I would say that he is going to bed undertired and cant sleep very long as he just isnt tired enough to sleep longer, start gradually putting him towards a 4 hour easy and you should see some improvments, let me know if you need any help with that
