Thanks again ladies.

Did she consider something like tongue-tie when she saw you in the past?
No she didn't, she actually said she had a very good and strong sucking, which I agree. I've asked for help on latching a couple of times with my public health nurse, but it seems like everytime the nurse comes my DD latches on properly so it seems like there has never been a problem (the same when I saw the LC).

Thanks for the merging Vicku. And sorry for having posted twice.

I've thought about the 4months Growth spur as well. I know my supply wasn't enough for her before because she ended up putting on no weight on the week I've seen the LC... I was thinking about doing some EAESY for a while, to see if it helps her being satisfied and establishing my supply again (at least during the afternoon as morning is not a problem and evening I'm going to keep the bottle...). I've seen this in the thread about "how Tracy helped Josie to face the 45 min nap" (or something like that! :P)
I've been also wondering if the traces of "sickle cell anaemia" that is in my blood could possibly influence my supply...

I appreciate all your advices and hugs (I luv hugs btw!), and yes, I posted  because I really don't want to give up and sometimes I just can't help thinking about it...

I'm working on keeping BF as much as I can. I keep on with Fenugreek and Floradix and am trying to eat a bowl of oats every afternoon! :)

Big hugs hun and glad to see your positive attitude.
Tbh - I haven't had EASY since E lost weight. I was advised by my LC to feed her to sleep and I did so, swaddled as she was a bit of a fussy feeder, and she packed on the lbs. While I'm a big fan opf EASY for the majority of cases, having a AESY really helped her and you can always change it back. That's the joy of this routine is that it's flexible and it can be adapted back.
You're doing a great job and don't forget it :). Thje energy you're putting into this shows how much you care and that's the most important thing.

I just need a shoulder to cry on today... Last feed was terrible. DD was crying frustrated at my breast because there was no milk... I put the SNS to see if she would at least stay enough time at the breast to get a let down and she stayed for 2 min, got the let down, 2 more minutes feeding and then started crying again... I can't stop her... As soon as I lay her on my arm she already starts crying.
That's the kind of thing that makes me think about giving up...
I can't help being in tears with that...
Sorry for the low moral post after such a positive attitude but it really beats me down...

Oh hugs hun. I've been there - really I have. You CAN do this, but it's ok if you don't. I know how badly you want this, and how much you deserve it after all the struggling and positive attitude you've displayed.

When I was at this point, my LC provided my with some feeding tubes and I siphoned some formula through them and had E latch on. Once she was on, I'd get the tube of formula going and slip it in the side of her mouth so she was taking that at the same time she was stimulating me to make more milk. I did this every feed for about a week until my supply went back up. Hugs again. Try not to stress tonight. Feed your lo (whatever way works) and get some rest.

You can do this. We're here for you no matter what you decide. You've already proven that you are willing to do what it takes so please don't beat yourself up :) I highly recommend

Vicki,
I know about the tubes, it's the same as the SNS I'm using. I know it's worth using it, but it's SO MUCH work >___<
I've done that before, I've used it for 2 days and I didn't need it anymore... I might try again the next few days, it's just this evening was terrible... very much...
She's asleep now, I always give her a bottle before bed. Gotta have my shower now that DH is home.
Thanks a lot for the support and the hugs!

Huge {{{hugs}}}
I wanted to check in before going to bed. Tomorrow we go away for two weeks so I'm not sure when I'll get chance to get online. I'm sorry it's so tough for you :'( I know how you feel... the end of my BF with DD1 was a lot like that, only I had no idea there were supply boosting herbs, sns etc then so could do nothing to stop it going completely. With regards to her getting frustrated that there's no milk straight away... could you express either pump or hand express) until letdown so she gets an instant reward for going on the breast?
I understand that it is a lot of hard work and you really do have to do what feels best for you. It is ok to transition to formula only. It is also possible to make things better and get through this hard phase and perhaps get to a point where BF is easy and enjoyable again, for you both. We will support you with whatever you decide is the right choice for you right now :-*

Also wanted to throw something out there that you probably already know... making sure you use slow flow nipples for the bottle feeds so the bottle doesn't become too much easier than the breast. just in case you hadn't thought of that :)

Hugs sweetie and I hope you feel a little better now :-* :-*

I went to the public health nurse yesterday to get her weighed. She's far from what was expected.
She was born on the 97th and came down to the 50th, following this line up to sometime ago. Now, after the bug she's gone almost to the 15th :o

She told me to add one more bottle to DD's day. This killed my hope on bringing her to the breast only. And besides, I wanted to EBF only for 6 months, there's no point in me struggling and fighting if by the end of my efforts I'd start mixing anyway...

Who knows if now she's having more calories during the day she'll sleep better at night as well, and we might be able to establish a consistent 4h EASY, at least for the feeds, since the naps are still short...
I'm basically giving her now 1 bottle during the day (around noon), one before bed (she takes 4-6oz, depending on the time of the last BF, and one at DF.

It might be better like this...

Biggest hugs hun :)

To use formula when that wasn't your plan is never easy :(  Stay positive and give her what you can. When I was really down after giving up with my twins and when E started losing weight, I often looked at a thread here. Reasons to be proud. Don't ever forget that even one feed of bm gives your lo something wonderful.

Hope you're doing well and biggest HUGS :) :) :)

Lifegiver..big big Hugs to you.  I could almost have written this post myself two years ago.  My dd developed Jaundice at birth due to lack of feeding well and continually began loosing weight.  I had soo many problems with DH because we both had our best interest at heart (realized after marriage therapy..yes that's how bad it got with us).  Once the doctor told me by her 8 week check up that she wasn't gaining weight I really had a wake up call and give up my desire to BF in order to get my dd up to speed with her weight.  It was not an easy decision AT ALL.  During those first 2 months of her life I suffered a lot because I felt like an inadequate mom for not providing for my dd.  After all, aren't we meant to be able to BF? That's what I would say to myself, but the truth is that you, me, and every other mom who has gone through this frustrating, difficult time, know that we have done EVERYTHING to make it work.  However, it has to come to a point where we must make the best decision for our baby.  Most importantly to be able to enjoy being a mom.  Sometimes no matter how much we try, it's not us, but the baby who for some reason (poor latch, impatient feeder, etc.) won't work with us...and that's OK.  I had decided to make sure my dd fed better, I pumped exclusively every 2 hours, took Fenugreek, and most important tried to get a lot of rest and RELAX.  I was able to pump up to 28-30 oz a day after about a month of working on exclusively pumping with an electric double pump.  Whenever I didn't have enough BM, I supplemented with formula.  In the end it didn't turn out so bad, my dd slept better because she was well fed, and I only supplemented about 1- 2 bottles of formula a day until she was 8 months when I stopped pumping. Now don't get me wrong, pumping was a lot of work and commitment, but it felt good having that option to provide my dd with as much BM as I could.  Now she is 27 mos. and such a healthy, strong girl, and I want to say it is due to all the sacrifice I made to provide her with as much BM as I could, for as long as I could.  If I knew then what I know now, I wouldn't have stressed so much and enjoyed my dd for those first 2 months.  It took some therapy and a year for me to be able to look at her newborn pictures without crying, because I felt guilt, shame, and selfish for not enjoying her when she was born because of the problems with BF.  Now I realize it's all part of learning and I did nothing wrong to harm her, so I'm ok now.  I'm expecting my second and I know there might be challenges, but I won't stress it because thank God to pumping if latching doesn't work, because I plan to enjoy her without regrets this time around.  You are a GREAT MOM, don't doubt yourself in your decision, enjoy her and trust me she will be fine.  Hugs to you honey, I know exactly what you're going through.  Motherhood is challenging and like everything else, this too shall pass :)

Mimi and Vicki,
I really appreciate your posts! Thank u!
It's comforting to know that I'm not the only one that have been through it (although I don't desire this challenge to anyone).
I thought about pumping for her and bottle feeding her when she was 8 weeks, but it was sooooo much work and I didn't feel I could do it, that's why I insisted in BF with the SNS and so on... Now that I've introduced another bottle to her feeds it seems that she's more and more distracted and uninterested on the breast.
I'm gonna try giving her some BM at least until she's 6 months, if she gives up before that, that's fine for me. At least I wasn't the one giving up! ;)

Maybe she'll start sleeping well again now. I really hope so...
i'm thinking about introducing solids early then, since I'm not EBF. It might help her with weight gain as well! I'm gonna talk about it with my public health nurse this week.

Thanks again for ur hugs and support.

That's right you weren't the one giving up and your positive attitude is so wonderful :)
You give the best you can, when you can and try to enjoy the ride.
You're doing a great job :) I hope she sleeps better for you too.
