Definitely I feel your pain, he has had 40 Min's sleep at nursery today.  He is shattered now, should we do early bt? Or will this encourage early wu?

I want to try and stick to a routine, but I think he has other ideas!

Thanks

Hi
Did you do the EBT?  I would have if he had such a short nap.  He must have been exhausted.
Hope you have a better night x

Hi,

Yes he went at 6.30pm, hardly a moan from him.  We then had a quite a good night, only a few shout outs but I didn't need to resettle at all.  He woke around 6.30am, so a good 12 hour night and no EW.  We will see how things go today.

How was your night?  Is LO better now?

Hey you had a great night.  Wouldn't it be marvellous if they were all like that?

I was thinking about your situation today, in that the day care can't/don't extend his naps so you are stuck with whatever he gets, like that short 40 min.  I think I'd prob still try for set nap times to make his days as consistent as possible but then work with the EBT and regular BT depending on how his nap went.

We had almost 11 hrs last night after yesterdays nap refusal (he had 2 micro naps in the car totalling 15 mins) and a huge 2.5 hr nap today.  He's still got canines moving, and more and more words every day, his cold seems better though so I've reduced his asthma meds back to normal.
just keep reminding yourself you won't be able to get him OUT of bed when he's a teenager!  I'm looking forward to all those lie-ins at the weekend!

Me too! ;D

I'm sure it's just a boy thing, they all seem to be early risers!  I'm glad your lo is getting better.  The canines seem to be the worst so far for us.

Today went:
A - 6.30am I think ( Didn't hear him until then!)
S - 12.25
A - 1.10 :o
S - 6.35pm

Again bad nap at nursery, he's just moved rooms so it might be the adjusting.  He was tired from 5.30pm but he goes all hyper when he's tired, it's quite amusing really but we know when he reaches that point he's near meltdown.  So it was a quick bath and bed and he fell asleep almost immediately. We will see what tonight brings, hopefully if he does a good 12 hours, then we can aim for the 12.30pm nap.  I have spoken to nursery and they agree that if he sleeps for any longer than 2hrs they will wake, and at any point I want the nap reduced they will do so.  Unfortunately the extending they can't.  But as you mentioned we will stick with early bt on days when the nap is short, but in the meantime try and stick to the rest of the routine.  I'm sure the early mornings are due to canines at the moment.  Until they all cut through I can't  tweak anything.

Thanks for keep replying, it's helping a lot.

Hi
Is the nursery able to give him some pain meds before his napin case it's the canine pain waking him?  I'm just thinking it might help him get through the first part of his nap and into a deep, longer sleep.
Those really short naps at nursery could be canines, OT, or the change in environment.  I know my LO will wake now at around 40 min if he sleeps in the car with it not being his normal nap environment....but then canines are so disruptive too...

Well we had another good night! 6.30 - 6.30.
I heard a couple of litte crys at 5.30am and went in, he was fast asleep. Do u think its just a fluke? Or does he need less sleep in the day niw?

Great night!
I would be inclined to think that he is so tired from those short naps (and maybe the teething too) that he is crashing at night.  It would be great to get nights like that on shorter naps long term wouldn't it?  I would imagine though that he would gradually get more and more OT and that a cat nap and long night wouldn't be sustainable over time.
I've known some toddlers at the play group drop down to a 30-40 min nap around this age but they are cranky and tired all day and their nights are nowhere near as good as yours, I think over time they are getting OT NWs and then EWs too.

I'd keep logging his times so you get to see a pattern emerge and watch out for the OT.

Im just not sure what to do today, i will put him down at 12.30 as norm but not sure whether to wake after an hour, wake after 2 or let him wake naturally?

I see your dilemma.  After getting a couple of 12 hr nights after short naps the temptation is to go for the shorter naps.  No harm in trying, after all they are all different.  I think you'd start to see tiredness in the afternoon and possible OT early evening wake ups and EWs.  If you did you could increase the nap again though.
My LO is low sleep needs but wouldn't be able to function on 30-40 min nap so I always find it surprising that other LOs can function on just a CN.

My lo is lsn, but can manage fine on a 40min nap for 3-4 days. Then we get BT resistance, short nites and OT pm wu at 11ish pm. Behaviour.wise he is happy and copes well, but i try and catch him up! Xx

That's interesting j.and.e.  Do you have set days that you increase the nap or go for EBT or do you play it by ear depending on LOs mood and gauge the tiredness?

So Sat went:

A - 6.30am
S - 12.30pm
A - 2.10pm
S - 7.15pm

He seemed very unsettled as soon as we put him down.  At 3.30am we had a wu, I had to resettle with milk and meds, he then slept till 7.15am!

Sunday went:

A - 7.15am
S - 12.30PM
A - 2.15pm
S - 7.15PM

We had a couple of nw's last night just for a dummy, I'm not sure if this is his teeth again or OT  from some shorter naps he woke at 6.00am this morning, so not a bad night really.  I'll see how his nap is at nursery today.  But it's so good that the sleep refusal seems to have gone and he seems quite happy to go to bed at night again now.  It's also good now that his naps are getting later and he seems to be coping quite well all considering.  Once all these teeth come through we can try and work to something.

I think that's a good point j&e, I know now that if we do have days out and his sleep is disrupted that an early bt should hopefully sort it or a longer nap the next day, it seems that things are getting a little more flexible, or maybe it's me becoming a bit more flexible and not stressing so much!  These lo's can really surprise you. x
