2-1 transition
« on: May 12, 2014, 11:52:45 am »
hi ladies,

My DD is almost 12 months old and I think she is heading into the 2-1 transition. problem is that there arent really enough hrs in the day currently for 2 naps and too many hrs for 1 nap only. what do other people do? my DD has an A time of 4 hrs currently.
she started waking up earlier and earlier which I believe is a sign for the transition.
her easy looks something like that:
WU 6am
1st nap 10am-11.15am
2nd nap 3.15-4ish
BT 7.30ish
she doesnt go down well at BT since she isnt tired enough, in that respect its much easier when she has only 1 nap and there is a long A time between the nap and BT. we are getting night wakinsg then though. its a tricky one, not too sure if I should start focusing on 1 nap or try to get 2 into the day. when she has difficulties going down at BT she only falls asleep by 8pm which makes her night only 10 hrs and then with a total nap length of only 1.5ish hrs that isnt really enough sleep, is it?
also 3 days a week she is in creche and she naps poorly there, most only 30 mins. sometimes an hr, other times 45 mins. they dont really get her down at the right times despite many times of asking... annoying tbh.

what are you guys doing with the 2-1 transition?
thanks, fran

Hi Fran,

Oh, it's fun isn't it? I'd suggest coming and joint the rest of us having a chat about it all Anyone want to talk about the 2-1 transition #26

These two links I found super helpful...

from 2 to 1 nap - how, when and the bumps
From 2 to 1 nap transition (10-12m and older)

Hi Fran

We've just come out the other side of the 2-1 and it was horrendous sorry to say  :P

Have you tried pushing that 1st A a little more than 4hrs? 1.15 nap for us was often UT. If you can get a slightly later 1st nap and for a bit longer you could then try shortening the 2nd to 30 mins. K can last far longer on 45 mins than she could on 30 so might make her tired enough at BT?

Agreeing with Lauren. I've had to cap DD's 2nd nap to 30mins (prev 45mins) as she was playing up at BT. Much better now!! I'm just praying we can keep 2 naps for as long as possible..

hi ladies, thanks for the responses. most of the time the 2nd nap is 30/35 mins anyway, what I have tried a couple of times was capping it to 15 mins and that seemed to make her more tired for BT. it wasnt often enough though to see what impact it has on her night sleep. but I always think that 15 mins is hardly sleep at all... ?

Maybe try 20mins?? I'm already forward planning this and I plan to keep the nap for as long as possible, even if it's just 15mins! Not btdt though so other people may suggest otherwise??

We did 15 mins right at the end and I did always feel bad waking her up after such a short amount of time but it was enough just to see her through.
My childminder never puts her down at the right time either and we end up with shorter naps. Irritating isn't it!

yeah might try 15-20 mins more and see how that goes.
have you spoken to the childminder? it is so irritating alright, they try to fit my DD into their routine which doesnt suit us at all... :(

I have asked but she also has older toddlers who nap at 12.30 so she has to fit I'm with them. She can handle it a bit better now. Won't be long and she'll be on similar A times so nap should get longer!
