Hi hun! Ladies gave you great advice in terms of 2-1 transition, but where I wanted to add is here:
At least when they are awake so much as a newborn you have the hope that they'll eventually grow out of it. At least with a growth spurt, teething, illness or even a sleep regression, you know it's for a short time, then things will go back to normal. What do you do when this craziness IS the normal?? There is no foreseeable end in sight... no "if we can just get through this illness..." or "when that tooth finally erupts..."

It's the same honey and you just have to realise it. It will pass no matter if this is illness or sleep regression or OT or transition to 1 nap. I am in the same moment right now as DS started to have awaful NW after months of STTN and I totally don't know what is the root. The worst thing to cope with is as you call it: "no foreseeable end in sight", but when I think of it - it has to end someday:). I think that when our little ones have sleep problems, we are so tired and puzzled that we always think  "oh no, there is no end for that". But there is an end somewhere, we just have to remember it.

Once again hugs and I wish you and myself more faith that all sleep problems will pass someday. Hope is always making tough things easier to hope. It's just a phase, it's just a phase...

Thank you! I try to not to be a sob story, but when you're tired and emotional after a long night, sometimes it just comes spilling out! :)

So far, today has looked like this... I took your advice and pushed her A time as long as I could before that nap, and it worked SO much better than yesterday.

4:45 - wu. :/
7:30-9:30 - nap... (I guess that's what we'll call it...ha!)
2:00-4:30 - nap (!!!!)

Now, thinking about BT at this point. Would 7:30 be too early? Would 8:00/8:30 be too late? Only a 3 hr A after such a long nap seems short, but then again I don't want her day to be too long. I doubt you'll be able to chime in in time, but I'll just watch for signs and hope for the best.

If we have a good night/normal wake up tomorrow, I may be tempted to try another 4.5 A in the morning. She took such a good nap today, but I know that could be a combination of the early morning, too. What do you think?

I'm guessing I'm too late but I would go for the later bedtime and more A time tomorrow if the wake up time is reasonable!

My lo at 8 month's is the same. Goes down for his morning nap 2 or 2 n half hrs after wake up time but hasbeven refusing his afternoon nap. There have been a few times when he s fallen asleep nursing arnd 3 or 4 pm but woke up 30_45 mins later crying. Putting him down at night is another nightmare. If he falls asleep nursing then he s up within an hr or 2 screaming n won't sleep for another 2 hrs. If he naps at 4 then he s up playing till 10 pm. God Tracy doesn't mention this in her book.

Martii85 - I'm so sorry! I did a "quick reply" not realizing you had posted, too. Thank you so much for the encouragement! You are right... nothing is forever! One day we will miss cradling them in the dark quiet of the night, right? Perspective, perspective, perspective. So sorry you are in the same boat with your DS... I will pray sleepy prayers for you both!

Last night was much better. 8:15-6:45 with one 30 min NW at 2:45. I can live with that! So I'm going with your advice Masyn's... I'll push her to another 4.5 hr A this morning, and see how the nap works out from there. This transition really is just about trial and error, huh? I can't thank y'all enough (southern US... ;)) for sticking with me here.

Hi dipz... so sorry for your troubles. I completely understand the frustration. Read Martii's post above! Very encouraging. How long is that morning nap?

Yup trial and error definitely describes this phase! Hope the A time work out today.

Dipz - the morning nap sounds like it is a bit too early...a lot babies on the way to the 2-1 need a short am nap so they will still do a longer pm nap and the day gets longer until they hit one nap consistently. I have not read the books lately - which one do you have?

Happy update! Yesterday looked like this:

6:45 - wu
11:15-2:00 - nap
7:15 - BT (extra long A... we got stuck at an event, but she handled it like a champ.)
12:15-12:45 - NW... (I was able to put her down awake after nursing, and she put herself to sleep the rest of the way. WIN!)
4:45 - stirred, but self-settled!
7:30 - wu! that's a 12 hour night ladies. Woo hoo!

I did another 4.5 hour A this morning because of church... she was pretty fussy toward the end, but went right to sleep for her nap. Maybe we'll get into a groove for a couple of days? Here's hoping!

Dipz- I hope you jump back in! If I can help at all, or just listen, I'd be happy to do so. :)

That's amazing hun! Well done. I always found that day three used to be a toughie as OT started to creep in. In this case although we used to do long am nap, short pm, I would do a quick 15mins car nap around 9am to get her to her usual nap time of around 11.30/12 I think it was then.

Just in case she's super fussy tomorrow, you know you have options! Then you can carry on as before!! Keep us posted xx

Yesterday was even better!

7:30 - wu
12:00 - nap
2:30 - A
7:30 - BT
Then she STTN until 6:00 this morning!! She had one short NW at 11:15 but she rolled over and went back to sleep ON HER OWN. Hallelujah!! Unfortunately, 6:00 am is a little early to go for a one nap day, I think. I so wish I could do the car nap trick, but for some reason my girls will NOT sleep in the car unless they are completely and totally exhausted. So, I was thinking about going with the very first EASY you suggested, so we could sneak in that cat nap. Just with a bit longer A in the evening to get us to a better bedtime (so the 4:45 waking don't come back! eek!)... the day would (hopefully) look something like this:

6:00 - wu (4hr A)
10:00 - nap
11:30 - A (3.5hr A)
3:00 - nap
3:30(ish... depending on if she actually goes to sleep right away) - A
7:00 - BT

I'll let you know how it goes!

Hey ladies thxs for hearing me out. I have tired to push A time to 3 hrs but he still refused the afternoon nap. His night walking have gone from 1 to 3 now n is also having severe night time seperation anxiety. Could this be the cause?
