Help with tweeking and naps
« on: January 31, 2007, 20:07:55 pm »
Hi this is my first post and I am trying to figure out our day and what I need to do.
MY DD is sleeping from 8pm til 6am (we wake her @6am because of our work and going to sitter-want to feed her b4 she goes)

I need help figuring out her afternoon naps.  Sometimes she will sleep for 45 minutes and sometimes she won't. I am not sure what is normal........??

She will be 4 months Feb. 16th.

Here is our EASY:
E 6am eat
A
S 7:15 usually til 0900 or 0930 we have to wake her somtimes
y

E 0930
A
S 1130?? Sometimes she will sleep sometimes not and ? 45 minutes or so
Y

E 1:30
A
S ?? this nap is never predictable.........sometimes she will not sleep sometimes she will-Rarely more than 45 min.
Y

E 4:30
A
S usually about 6ish she will "catnap for 30ish minutes"
Y

E 7:30 -8pmish
A just make sure she doesn't fall asleep eating  and change diaper,  jammies and 10 minutes of quiet time with mom in rocker then Sleep

I just need to know when should I work on her LONGER big naps and when to keep her up?
I just feel like I don't know where I need help!!! LOL

The good thing is that she does sleep all night-we are very lucky!

hello and welcome :)

and yes- you are very lucky! :D

besides, at almost 4 months and some nap problems, do you think she may be ready for transitioning to 4 hrs EASY? I can see her morning naps are long and so are intervals between the feeds. if she's ok with those feedings, that's fine but she may be getting close to enough day time sleep in the morning/mid day and therefore not sleeping well in the afternoon.

here are some sample routines: https://babywhispererforums.com/index.php?topic=10385.0
and how to transition your baby to 4 hrs EASY: https://babywhispererforums.com/index.php?topic=63161.0

good luck and please keep us posted

Thanks for the responses. I was thinking and wondering if she needed to go from 3-4 so we JUST changed to this schedule above about a week ago which is 3.5 hours. It seems to be working fine and she acutally eats now. Before @ the 3 hour mark, she wasn't hungry.  What I think I will do is wait til we see her Ped. and get the okay to try some cereal and THEN maybe make the full transition to 4 hours.

My concern is by doing the 4 hour we'd eliminate ANOTHER bottle. We just did that with the 3 hour switch.  We went from 6 to 5 bottles.  She did fine but I feel like I am temping fate with another switch so soon! LOL
Also feeding her last @ 6pm -is this a concern? Feeding would be 6am 10a 2pm 6pm- I just don't want her to start waking up again!!!!!!!!!

Just wanted to say that we DO NOT do a DF. I tried two times and she is a light sleeper and it woke her up and she cried and cried both times.  I was very calm and did everything really slow and quiet too. I don't think doing a DF would work with DD.

HM... so maybe you could move that 6pm feed closer to 5:30 and add another one at 8pm right before bed? then you wouldn't drop this one bottle you're talking about and she would still be getting 8pm feed to keep her asleep at night.
she may not want full feeds both times so maybe you could do 3/4 a feed at 5:30 and 3/4 at 8.

I won't say introducing cereal at such a young age is sth terrible as we tried some at maybe 4,5 months with our dd but actually if you're planning to introduce it in hope she'll be getting more food that way- well, it doesn't really work like this. milk is still essential at her age so do keep on feeding her those bottles! :)

Good idea bout the 3/4 bottles! THANKS

I was jus thinking about the cereal and LOL I realize she won't be getting a lot of calories/nutrition from it. I envision 1/4 Tablespoon in her mouth and 3 Tablespoons on the bib!!!  ;D

I am off for a 4 day stretch starting sunday so maybe I will attempt a transition to 4 hours and see how it goes. I think a good long nap would really help her disposition in the afternoon-hope we can work it out.  She is so happy after her AM nap!!

THANKS for listening!!
