This is a great thread ladies! I have another great finger food to add too. my ds wouldn't eat white potatoes or egg, so one day I mixed them together (raw egg), about 1/2 and 1/2 (quite runny) and fried it like you would a pancake! he loved it! I now make them all the time and add whatever veggies to them, shredded zuccini, carrots, broccoli, you name it! Just thought I would add that!  :P

Arial - I totally understand about your mom not wanting your lo to use his fingers at meal times.  My mom used to take care of dd from 14 - 25 mos and she doesn't like fingers in food (we're Asians!)  Anyway, we decided to let dd use a small dessert fork instead.  There would be several on hand and we would pierce the food for dd until she can do it herself.  I think that dd learned how to use a fork before the spoon.

HTH
My mum is the same :-\   She doesn't like the idea of finger food coz she thinks it's messy :-\  We usually feed DD congee - rice, vegetable, meat, water, etc. When DD was younger, the rice and water ratio was 1:10, then reduce to 1:7, 1:5 and then 1:1 like the rice we eat.
I'm baking some rusks and giving DD some soft fruit like papaya, kiwi, etc.

Congee is good.  That is what he usually ends up having.  He loves chicken broth, so he gets a lot of that also. How old was your little one when she started table food. When can LO start getting canola oil, olive oil or butter, like in mashed potatos in their foods?

I just wanted to verify, I add raw egg to mashed potato (not raw) and then whatever veggie and then fry it up, lol...don't know how it would turn out with raw potato!!!

Arial, I started giving my ds olive oil and butter (using it in cooking) at about 10 months, he has had no problems at all with it. HTH!!!

Arial, I started cooking congee with broth (chicken or pork) since she was 9 mo. The other day, I even added some cod in her congee... I think around 10mo. you can slowly adding in some cooking oil.
If you're cooking congee, you can slowly add less water and make the congee more lumpier.    ;)
BTW, has anyone tried pasta as finger food?

Arial, How's your LO eating? I've discovered another finger food that my LO really likes: finger size sushi ;D
Just very soft rice rolled up with unflavoured seaweed. DD finished 6 mini rolls for her lunch... I'm thinking of adding some veggie puree in the middle

Litomi - dd has recently decided that sashimi (tuna and salmon) are one of her favorites.  That and along with the giant fish roe.  I never thought to give it to her but after watching us eat sushi on a weekly basis, I guess she wanted a taste too.  Yes, pasta is great as a finger food - use the veggie or multi grain one and I think that olive oil is fine at this age.

Hi - Just wanted to jump in here as we are going thorugh the same thing at the moment. I would love some tips for giving meat as finger foods, I'm not very imaginative and giving just pieces of meat seems very dry. Isabella eats off of her tray and is currently completely refusing a spoon (even if it has yogurt on it!), I do have some recipes in my Annabel Karmel book which look nice, but I don't want to try them until she is into her 2nd year as a lot of them require soy sauce and I worry about the sodium content.

Also, Isabella's milk intake is often low so I give milk in cereal for b/fast, yogurts, rice pudding etc. How can I do this without a spoon??? She gets bored of cheese and often refuses to eat it...??

For us, anything can be finger food as long as dd eats it.  Your lo is a little younger but I think that you can give her most table food as long as she can chew it (does she have many teeth?) or at least can mash it with her gums.  When dd was teething and her gums seems to bothered her, I gave her chicken wings (no skin or loose pieces of tendons at the ends) or baby ribs to chew on.  I made sure that the meat is really well cooked and tender.  You can season it a little bit just to give it some flavour.  Chunks of broiled/baked fish is also good (just make sure that there are no bones).

Hey lila,
imagine seeing you here? lol!!  Can we maybe just ease up and deal that our kids go in and out of feeding strikes!  lol!

isabella actually drank close to 19oz today, AND AND AND, I finally found a sippy cup that she would take watered down juice from!!!!!!!!  this is huge.

anyhow, I came to help with the meat dept because that is the one thing that we have going for us still... she loves cheeseburger. So what I do is cook the meat in a saucer and then put some on a plate.  I melt some cheese on it and either spoon feed if she lets me, or I mush into "cheese meatballs".  She loves them and fills her tummy for those days where she just wont eat.  I do the same with chicken, but she does love chicken just plain.
