"eating naps"
« on: April 24, 2007, 18:44:09 pm »
Yeah, "eating naps"... DD has reverted back to her earlier days of snoozing on the job in place of her naps. It usually ends up that the second nap of the day is not very long and E comes right before S (should be 3rd nap) and she just hangs out on my boob, suck...suck...snooze...snooze...suck (You get the picture) for about an hour around 5:30. Its getting REALLY old. If I pull her off after she has fallen asleep, she wakes and screams till I put her back on. She actually does "sip" the whole time she eats. But its not fun being a human pacifier during dinner time. She does not use a paci (I took it away, bad addiction) and she sucks her thumb a lot. Here is the routine (varies as I do not wake her.

WAKE 6:30ish
E 7ish
S 8-9:30 or 10
E 11
S 12 - 1 or less
E 2:30 or 3
S nope!
E 5:30 or 6 - this is where this "eating nap" occurs
E 7:30 here we fall asleep a lot too lately & same thing happens when I try to pull her off.
BED 8 - sleeps till 6 or 7.

That last feed is getting to be a pain too bec. she does the same snoozing stuff. Any thoughts? I know its kind of an EASY question, but since I BF & that is the central issue here, thought I would post here.

This sounds so familiar to me!  I finally gave up doing the last nap in the crib because ds was actually did better bf/sleeping.  During the catnap, I would let ds sleep for 30 minutes while bfing, and dh would finish cooking dinner.  I just decided I'd catch up on some good reruns on TV.  Afterwards, we would all eat dinner together.  Suddenly, at 7 months old, ds stopped sleeping during a feed.

This was, of course, not ideal.  But we learned to live with it.  Maybe someone else has some suggestions for you.  Looks like nap #2 is pretty short and that's why she's so tired later.  We always had 45 minute (or less) naps, so that's what happened here, too.

As for the bedtime feed/snooze--we had that, too.  ::)  Not a problem because we'd just gently wake ds to brush his teeth and he'd go to bed no problem.

Hope you can find a solution soon.  :)

I am wondering if it may be time to extend the A times.  I notice that your second A time is only an hour, which may be why you are getting such a short nap after that.

This does seem more of an EASY question... do you want me to pop it over there?

Jennifer - just a thought.  But I always go by the 12hr rule with Lilly.  If she wakes at 6.30, then 6.30 is her bed time (give or take) Maybe the day is too long for her??IYKWIM  Also once the first A time extended, I found that the naps got longer (was 45min though..)  This was also the age that Lilly started to only take her last nap when she felt like it! when that happened I put her to bed earlier.

not sure this is anyhelp, but food for thought

I was thinking that too (keep in mind, this is coming from someone who's lo is still waking every hour or 2 all night...) - but if she's falling asleep on the boob at bedtime, maybe try moving bedtime up 15 min every few nights and see how she does.

Erin - I think I may try your suggestion

Aleesa - is Lilly taking 2 naps now? Or still 3?

Rachel - actually her second A starts around 10 and then she eats at 11 so its AEAS. And yes, maybe you should send this to EASY board.

Kim - maybe your DH could talk to my DH and explain that men can  C O O K  too ! ;D

It was either he cooked or we didn't eat.  Or I cooked and we listened to ds screaming from his crib.  He really had no choice.  ;)

Jennifer - sometimes 2, sometimes 3.  It really all depends on when she wakes from her 2nd nap.  We've only just mastered a longer than 45mn nap, and she seems to be ok for the last nap now, if the day goes to plan.  If not, then she doesn't take it and I normally put her to bed half hour early as she's too tired.  When she was 45min napping, it was really the 4th nap (last one in the day) that she was bucking.  Does any of this make sense?  It's kind of like a transition stage where she was trying to stay awake longer and sleep longer and got confused!  Then last week she kind of worked it all out..!

Yes, makes sense. ITs nice when they work things out! I can't wait for that to work itself out for Wink... Glad she is going past 45 min!

No help to offer, but do you mind me asking how Winnie got the nickname Wink, and I am also intrigued by your user name.

Sorry, totally off topic

We call her "Winnie Kate", and when I was pregnant I said "Winnie Kate" too fast one time and it came out "Winkie" and then when she was born she would keep one eye open a lot & the nickname stuck & got shortened later.... I also heard that winky is a bad racial slang word so i don't want to offend anyone!

btw, i was formerly 'jenpbarr' - you remembered me on LLL website. i changed my avatar!
