Ok here's my update.  We've had some good nights and some ok nights.  The other night DS woke at 2:15 (sister woke him) and I decided THIS IS IT!!  No more picking up to settle down!! So, I did ssh/pat to the best of my knowledge.  I leaned over him, shhhing in his ear, patting his chest and holding his flailing legs down with my other hand.  Amazing, but it seemed to calm him(eventually).  It took 1 hour to get him back to sleep.  Then he slept until 6:45!!!!  The next night was WONDERFUL- he woke at 4:30 am, I fed him and he went back to sleep until 7:30.   Yeah!!!  Last night I guess I was a little too confident he would sleep and I stayed up later with my DH (nice to see him again!) and when ds woke at 2:45, it was rough.  So, as much as I wanted to pick him up and get the 'quick fix' again, I leaned over him  and sshhh'd and patted him until he fell asleep again (about 45 mins).  Boy, that's a back killer!  Anyways, he woke at 5am but settled himself down (or maybe my dh put in his paci- I was dead to the world) and he finally woke for the day at 7:30 again.

3.5 hr EASY routine all day and down around 7 or 7:30, sometimes a little earlier if no cat nap in afternoon. DF at 10:30.  Occasionally he wakes just before DF but I hate to make it much earlier but he goes right down after.   So, everything SEEMS to be working.  I am hoping everytime I do sshh/pat in pm, it will get to a shorter time.  I also hope I'm doing it correctly(???).

Thanks again for all your support.  I can't wait until I can announce that he can settle himself down at night or that he's sleeping through the night!!

Karel

P.S. Hang in there Treacy.  I just keep telling myself that children don't go off to college waking all night long!!!

Hi Karel

When I read your posts I have deja vue!  I also did the old "stay up and watch a bit of tv (got engrossed in a movie) bad move!  Sacha is now 5 months old and has started feeding like a maniac all day (I'm breastfeeding) so I suspect a growth spurt is responsible for the latest night wakings.  So far today we had a morning nap (40 mins) lunch time sleep (1 hr 45 mins) and afternoon nap 40 mins.  This is good for Sacha although I could tell she was still overtired tonight.  I put her down at 6.30 so we'll see how we go tonight!

Hope you get some sleep (it's 7.15 and I am seriously considering going to bed now).

Treacy (DH Nicolas, DS James (2 years 8 months) DD Sacha (5 months).
