Mayamom, I have a two month old with similar sleep issues.  When you did sh/pat did she cry/scream some of the time?  I've tried sh/pat in the past and my little one cries and it escalates.  Do you just keep sh/patting through the crying or do you pick her up?

Thanks so much!

Lisa

Hi Lisa!

Yes, she will cry/scream is she is overtired.  I think my A time needs to be really short (50 minutes then start the wind-down).  Otherwise, she gets very upset when I put her down.  I just keep sh/patting through the crying while she is in her crib.  At the beginning, I tried picking her up but she continues to cry.  So, I don't bother anymore.  Hopefully, in the long run, this will help her self-soothe.

If I get the A time right, she will be asleep in 20 minutes with just a little bit of crying at the beginning.  If I keep her up too long, it will take at least 30 minutes, sometimes 45, with a lot more crying.

Lisa - I just came across this and thought it might be helpful to you.

Here's a link to the pat/shh FAQ sheet.

Thank you so much for the feedback.  Earlier today I cut his A time a bit short and started his wind down routine.  Then I did sh/pat in the crib for about 20 min, when I stopped his eyes opened up so I started again and he was back to sleep in about 10 min.  Hopefully this keeps working!

Lisa and Mayamom,
I was out of town, so I didn't get a chance to catch up on the posts. But, it looks like the both of you are doing okay and are figuring out your DDs! Hugs and keep it up!

xoxo
