Honey - so sorry the appt is 7 weeks ago.

I'd be really really careful about weaning at such a young age - baby porridge contains both whole milk and gluten both of which could make her reflux a whole lot worse - not to mention the constipation.

We started weaning J at 20 weeks due to the reflux and it was a DISASTER. Seemed fine for about 3 weeks and then all fell apart.

She really really shouldn't have any solids until 4 mths unless under specialist advice, and baby porridge is a no go until 6 mths.

I'm pretty sure some of my NWs this week have been due to lentils - and he has been eating solids for 5 mths and is 10.5 mtsh old.

I really really would just hold on and give the milk.

Sorry to be negative - it might seem like its better but I'm so sure it will be short lived and back fire on you.

The baby porridge i got was Cow and Gate, 4mth one recommended by a friend who weaned all 3 of hers on it.

If you think its that a bad idea i'll stop and hold off for a bit longer. It was just she was showing all the signs, and even my friends who all have multiple children told me she was showing the signs. I have only given her a minute amount each day so i'm sure she won't even notice that she won't get any tomorrow!

Thanks for the heads up!

Yeah - it is odd though as when you look on the ingredients list it has things that are not recommended until 6mths. I remember looking at them when I started weaning J.

The other thing is with poor weight gain the last thing you want to do is end up filling her tummy with anything other than milk. I would say stop - certainly until she is 4 mths and only then if your HV agrees. Actually I would wait until the hospital appt if you could.

Children can show signs early but a lot of these signs are really an interest in the world rather than wanting solids. Sure - they will accept solids as it is just another game to them really. Lots of people used to wean a lot earlier so you will get different advise of people with older children - then guideline was 4-6 mths until a few years ago when the world health organisation advised all countries to change their advice to 6 mths due to concern over rising allergies and digestive issues. The UK is actually one of the slacker countries with weaning - the US and Oz for example have much stricter guidelines.

And it is a bit different with reflux - there are lots of foods that can make it so much worse that you would need to watch out for - gluten, any milk products, acidic fruits, tomatoes etc.

Hi,

Hope things are going a bit better Liz.

Adaia is doing really well at the moment. She had her GS but only lasted a day and a half, and is now back to eating every 4 hours, but she has upped her intake to between 5 - 6oz per feed. She also went last night from 2330 - 0720 without a feed!

I had alot of NW's between the hours of 2 -3 but i am now pretty sure she is teething as i can see a tooth coming through bottom left so i gave her calpol, and she slept from 3 - 0720! Best stretch she has done for ages and ages! I feel alive today!

How many days can i give her Calpol for? It says on the bottle not for more than 3 consecutive days, so am hoping her teething calms down very soon!

I have tried to get back on track routine wise, but she is still short napping, but i am off to buy a jumparoo, fisher price thingy, so hopefully she'll tire herself out and sleep better lol.

I guess i just need a few decent naps to get off the OT train properly, then she may be able to handle full A times.

Just read this thread from beginning to end - wow!! You have been through it! So glad things are improving. When my DS was 1st teething I asked my Health Visitor if it was safe to have Calpol quite often and she said he could have it twice a day for the duration of the teething pain with no problem.

That all sounds great  :) :).

So early for a tooth to actually come through. You can give it for longer than 3 days if you need too - just keep giving it a rest to check it really is still needed.

Make sure you use that jumper early on in her A time as at such a young age she will still be prone to OS leading to short naps.

Now things are a bit better routine wise why don't you post it again and I can have a look. I'm a big believer in the right A times being the key to good naps  :) :).

J is his usual self thanks for asking - we have fought over the first bottle but managed to get him to take 5oz after an hour  ::) and he has just taken 5.5oz on the second with no fuss. So I'm quite pleased! I only do three bottles a day now and he is just soooo constipated I need him to have as much as possible.

Oh, and I did look at that C&G porridge in Tesco yesterday - it is gluten free but does contain skimmed milk. Dairy and reflux can be a really bad combo so I would avoid for now. Lets see if we can manage on milk alone until that paeds appointment!!

Hello ladies,

Sorry for the delay in replying to you, I have been on holiday  ;D

I agree with Liz on the solids, I would hold off, and perhaps chat with the paed about it when you seen them.  I am so sorry you have to wait 7 weeks though, that is awful >:(

I agree, if you post your routine, we can have a look at it and see if anything needs tweaking.  Remember to post what is actually happening now, not what you are aiming for?

With regards to the pain meds, I was told that you should not give the full dose for more than 3 days, i.e, if you are giving calpol 4 times a day, you should not continue doing this after 3 days without discussing with the doctors.
