yes he did a long nap after swimming, i actually had to wake him after 1 hour 45mins as it was getting really close to 5pm!

hopefully that big nap broke something because i dont know what else to do. we dont do WI/WO to extend a nap, feels like theres no point if hes only done 1 hour 10mins just to get another 20mins and with a shorter nap he just fights it hard, we did try it one day and it didnt happen.

anyway, we went out tongiht to a friends house, they had another couple over who had two kids as well so he played with them all evening, usually that would overstimulate him but he loved it and went down perfectly at my friends house in their portacot, not a peep out of him. tomorrow we have church which means short morning nap (or i could try to get one long nap out of him, its worth a shot with all these bad naps aye?)

JO-Do you think going back and forth between long and short morning naps etc etc is confusing his body clock? I am just wondering b/c you were doing short am long pm...then Sat. long am because of swimming which he didn't want to do...so I am just wondering if an inconsistent approach is messing him up as well?

i did wonder that so i decided to stick to short morning nap but it ended up we got about an hour sleep total with that and we got NW's as i think he ended up OT,as he would do short morning and then short PM, so went to long AM but he didnt end up doing a long one anyway.

lets see what one nap brings us today

well DH let him fall asleep in the car on the way to church so he got a 20min morning nap, then on the way home 3 hours later he fell asleep and i transferred him to bed, he slept 1.5 hours!!! im just a little worried that all this falling asleep in the car (not necessarily on purpose either) is going to start becoming a prop....

thing is that hes getting decent sleeps the past two days but DH said yesterday morning he was rolling up blankets on the floor and acting like he was going to sleep and when he did go to sleep in the car it had been only about 3 hours, whereas he normally does a 4 hour A time...

I'd try to replicate those same times tomorrow to see if there's something to it. You never know.

We have drastically reduced A times here all of a sudden - seriously crazy reduced.  I think he might be starting teething his canines, plus had a tummy bug last week.  Maybe the same for your LO?

Hi Jo,

I have read through your thread and just want to let you know that you are not alone!!

J is 1 year 2 weeks and was doing well on short AM/long PM and had had the odd 1nap day until about 3 weeks ago when he started walking. Now our routine is completly up the whack and like you no matter what I do we get 40/45min naps and nights that are all over the show.

I also think there is a teething aspect with J as he is chewing on everything and anything at the moment, but doesn't acutally seem too distressed about it.

Funnily enough, whilst sleep at home is dreadful, sleep at daycare (he is there 3 days a week) is the best it has ever been, with some really random A times, ie:

7am wake
nap #1 9.30-10.15
nap #2 2-3.30
7pm bed and doing a solid 12 hr night.

I have tried replicating this at home but it has just resulted in out right tantrums when I put him down.  But our A times are more like 4-4.5hrs and our days end up  starting at 6-6.30. but flip back to 7 after his 1st day at daycare.

I wish I had a solution for you, but I hope at the very least I can give you the reassurance that you are not alone!!!

big hugs!!!

Those 1hr 10 and 15min naps sound to me like he is OT. I would try either 3 or 3.5hr awake time first thing in the morning.
