Thank-you for your reply...I didn't know if people were breastfeeding minutes before or after solids or an hour or so.  I'm hoping that eating solids inbetween breastfeeds is right.  I thought maybe I was supposed to offer bf after he is finished his solids.  He eats 2 ounces of solids at a time already....is this too much?  I thought with a 4 hour EASY that they should only have bf every 4 hours???

Well, everything I've read says BF / formula should be the major component of their diet until age 1.  I'm assuming at some point between 6 - 12 months the solids will be more substantial than the milk, but for now milk is the key.

Re: 2oz of solids .. I give my girl 4 cubes of food - which is around 3 - 4 oz of food per sitting.  Some days she eats it all, some days (like today at lunch) she maybe leaves and ounce on the table.

Yes, with 4 hour EASY they BF every 4 hours.

Just so I understand...do some moms give milk at the same time as solid foods plus all of the regular feeds at 7,11,3, 7 and maybe dreamfeed?...or do they give solids at one of the regular times that they give milk?...like breakfast immediately after bf at 7am, lunch after the 11am bf, and supper after the 3pm bf?   If this is what some moms do, then when do you transition your lo to eat at regular meal times inbetween bf?  Is that what I started too early?  Sorry for all of the questions....I'm just so confused?! :-\

I don't believe people give milk WITH solids in addition to the 4 hour EASY milk feeds.

I believe you BF every 4 hours and work your way up to 3 meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner) with the solids - so 7 feeds a day for now.

I hope I answered your question - I'm not sure I understand what you're asking.

Check out a post I made earlier .. people gave me good info about what to work toward.

i just switched to breastfeeding first b/c the doc said ethan's weight is too low (25th percentile...and he was 10lbs, 9oz at birth!!! he's just under 17lbs now, and 7 months old tomorrow). he seems to be doing much better this way.

here's what we've switched to:

7am - breastfeed and then cereal with some fruit
11am - lunch (veggies, fruit) and then breastfeed
3pm - snack (baby crackers or something light, might switch this to cereal and leave dinner as just fruits and veggies) and then breastfeed
6pm - dinner (veggies, fruit or cereal)
7pm - breastfeed and bed

he's napping much better and seems happier all around. i don't think i was feeding him enough before b/c he wouldn't ever turn his head away from food. so i was portioning things out and i think my portions were too small. now i give him about one jar of veggies and one jar of fruit for his lunch and dinner and have upped his cereal to about 5tbsp in the morning and at night.

most of the moms in my baby group have been making the switch to solids before breastfeeding b/c of what their friends have done and/or doc's advice. i don't know that it really matters either way, but my doc wanted ethan to fill up more on solids and then have breastfeeding as a bit of "dessert". i haven't switched the first feed of the day though b/c that's when i'm most full and he gets the best feed.
