Want to do 4hr EASY but just cant get it?
« on: August 03, 2007, 03:57:09 am »
Im trying to follow the 4hr EASY with my just 3mth old daughter. The situation is this: Her average day seems to look like this:

Last fed 3/4am
6:30a.m-6:45a.m - Wake

7:00a.m - feed

              Awake

8:00-8:15- Sleep

9:15- 9:30- awake

9:30 onwards she plays until I see hunger signs and then I usually feed her around 10:00/10:30a.m

by this stage she is getting tired and therefore has eaten and doesnt want anymore waketime, hence putting her to sleep after a feed??? The catnap keeps this problem occuring??

She then wakes from another catnap, and its still a long way off feedtime so she again plays and feeds and then followed by sleep once again.

This continues throughout the day resulting in the whole EASY looking like ESA which isnt really working for the both of us. Sooooooo now im wondering what I do about this prob???

She seems to love her afternoon sleep as a LONG sleep but I want it to be her catnap and the others earlier in the day are her catnaps BUT I want her to sleep longer?? Its a never ending battle and this has been going on for some time. How can I change this??

 ???

hi

first of all- why are you attempting 4hrs easy with your 3 month old baby? even if  she's not hungry at 3hrs mark she's probably not at all ready for 2hrs A time and if you try to keep her up longer she gets overtired and won't nap long for you. Besides, she's very likely to nap for 45 minutes at a time only because many babies her age are not yet capable of napping longer- here's where you could help her with pat/shush etc to prolong her naps.

if she's happy with a longer nap in the afternoon and still going to bed easily for the night, why change it?

can you post your whole day please?

Hi, Thanks for your reply

Everyday is different, hence why im all over the place with no routine but today a particularly bad day went like this:

6:45am - wake
7:00am - feed       (This worked well) :)
8:15a.m -sleep

9:15a.m - wake (played in her cot a little b4 her cry)
10:00a.m -Feed (Very hungry)
11:00a.m- Sleep

12:04 a.m - wake (she woke a few times throughout this nap, but left her to re-settle as she didnt cry)

1:20pm - feed (fell asleep as she was awake too long before it)

2:15pm - woke

3:30pm - feed (uncommon but needed top up)

5:00p.m - Just gone down now for last nap, which is usually longer but she cried as she is overtired now.

I plan on doing her normal bedtime routine to try and get her back into the swing of things again, however as you can see my day was totally all over the place and other days are usually better but still not great.

I guess I have been following a 4hr routine because the formula she is taking suggests to feed 4hrly so she gets approx 5 bottles in a 24hr period?? (First-time mummy with no idea) :-[

She definately cant cope with 2hrs wake time I agree, but I would definately appreciate any help to try as today she didnt even get her longer nap as she was all out of pattern :-[

Thanks

hi

now I see what you were thinking ;)

don't worry, being first time mom always means making some mistakes, but at least we can learn from our own mistakes too.

I'd try 3hrs routine with her. even if she only naps 1 hour not 1,5 hrs it's ok. EASASA pattern is very common, so don't worry.

here's the link to 3 hrs easy info and transition to 3,5 and finally 4 hrs easy
