Has anyone flown recently...

... Can you take cartons of formula on board the plane???  How do you open them if you're not allowed scissors in your hand luggage???  Or can I take bottles with water in them ready to put the powder in (don't tell the health visitor :P :P :P)

We flew a couple of days ago.  We took bottles of cooled boiled water and pre-measured powder.  They were fine about letting it through security though DH did have to taste the water for them!  The guidelines we had said you could take enough baby food 'as necessary for the flight' so I'm sure you'll be fine.  The only problem we thought we may have had if we'd taken the cartons (not to mention the difficulty opening the thing) was if they'd wanted us to taste test them. But the water worked fine.

Hope you're going somewhere nice  :)

I flew back from Oz to the UK on Wednesday. Whilst I don't do formula I had no problem when leaving the country back in June, however I did have to taste some food on the way back for a domestic flight out of Gatwick. They are very lenient with baby food/drink. I had a carton of milk with me on the way out and they didn;t say a thing! You should be fine with the cartons, after all they are sealed!

We flew Gatwick to Toronto and they had me drink his milk, his water in his sippy and I brought along some drinkable yogurts and they made me open one and drink a bit, which ticked me off as they have a foil wrapper, too messy to reseal so I drank it there and then and DS had the other one on the plane.  In Toronto they didn't even bother to make me taste test liquids.  They never even bothered about any of the food for him at either airport.  The flight attendants will be able to open your cartons for you or you could bring powder in zippy bags and bottles of water or the flight attendants will give you water and even warm it up for if need be.

Ok, I normally do up her bottles and put boiled water in them  and use within 24 hours.  I've got a powder dispenser for when we go out.  So I can bring the bottles with water in them through security and onto the plane?  It would be cheaper than going out and buying a whole lot of cartons of ready made milk!  Gotta watch the pennies!

Yes, no probs and they may make you drink a wee bit to make sure it is just water.

I'm reluctant to make up the bottles and keep them in a cool bag as we have a 5 hour train trip, a four hour wait at Heathrow and a 7 hour flight so I really am worried about the bottles going off by the time we arrive.  I will take a chance with the water plus powder and hope if they take them off me I can buy cartons of C and G at Boots in the departure area!!!

I really think you'll be fine with the water plus powder.  They may just make you taste test it, but other than that I don't think you'd have any problems.  All the best.

Thanks everyone - I'm so excited - we're going from the UK to Canada to see my family.  They can't wait to meet Enfys!
