Help! Fighting pm nap
« on: August 21, 2007, 02:45:01 am »
I'm not sure what to do with my 9mth angel baby daughter. She went from wanting three naps a day to only wanting one. She sleeps wonderfully for her am nap and bed time, but her pm nap is a disaster. She spend the time crying frantically. I know she needs a nap because she's rubbing her eyes and getting extremely cranky. I've tried laying her down early, I've tried laying her down when she's overtired, but nothing seems to work. She lays there and cries and screams. Rarely does she ever cry! I've tried the PU/PD method. However, as soon as I start to lay her down she proceeds to scream. Being an angel baby, I've never had this problem with her. Please I need some advice!

What is her routine?
Could be that she needs some change in her day.

8:30-9:00 Wakeup time
9:00 eats breakfast
9:30-12:00 Plays sometimes has an outing
12:00 nap (usually only an hour)
~1:00-1:30 Lunch time
1:30 Play time
3:30-4:00 We try for our second nap, if it happens it is usually only 30-45min.
5:00 dinner
Playtime and bedtime routine follow.
8:30 pm Bedtime

She doesn't have any problem going to bed for her 1st nap or at bedtime.

Wow you really have late riser.
I would think that at one point she got just too overtired and is not able to fall asleep. And being angel baby, she just does not show it.
How early did you try to lie her down after first nap?

I attempt to lay her down about 3 hours after her first nap. It usually results in her screaming at me. For a child that usually doesn't cry, she's got a set of lungs. ;)

LOL
As she takes only 1 hour nap, what about lying down at 2 or 2.5 hour point?

That's a good idea. I'll try that tomorrow. Thanks!

It's been four days and it's worked! Putting her down sooner has let Emily relax and take an evening nap. Now all I have to do is get her to extend her naps from 45 minutes to an hour. Thank you so much for your help!
