10 mo old not wanting to eat
« on: September 09, 2007, 17:54:19 pm »
Hi!  I have a 10 month old who has since decided she doesn't want to eat anything that is spoon fed to her; she may take a couple bites but that is about it.  She will hardly eat anything else for that matter.  I do give her arrowroot cookies, fruit and carrots that she can feed herself and she seems to eat those in small portions.  Is this just a stage they go through?  She is not losing any weight; she is cutting teeth and not sleeping through the night.  We just moved in with my parents for a few weeks while my husband secures us a house in our new state (he is military).  When we moved in with my parents is when she stopped eating solids from a spoon.  Should I be concerned?  I am currently trying to transition her to a bottle full time with the occasional bf's at night.  She probably takes about 17-20oz of formula with about 2 bf's.  Any advice is much appreciated!  I am paranoid and want to make sure she is getting everything she needs as she is my angel.

If your lo doesnt want to be spoonfed then give her foods she can feed to herself.  My ds feeds himself all sorts of things with his fingers e.g. pasta, rice, mashed potato, cooked vegetables, peeled and chopped fruits, etc.  The only thing he is spoonfed is yoghurt but he likes it when I load up the spoon and hand it to him to put in his mouth.  He did start on purees but I gave him loads of finger foods from the start and this is what he prefers now.  He has finger fed most things since 9/10 months.

Hello!

There have been a couple of threads recently on this topic, perhaps the replies here will answer some of your concerns?

Also you might want to check out the FAQ section which includes a sticky post about Spoon Refusal and Finger Feeding, and also the Finger Foods recipes in the Recipes section :)

Try not to worry too much, babies don't tend to starve themselves, in fact they regulate their diet really well if you just leave them to it, so I guess she's telling you that she's not that hungry at present (those darn teeth eh?),

best wishes,

Ax
