independant sleep training 10wk old

I need some help. I know what I've done and am doing wrong I just don't know what to do right. We are trying to sleep train our 10week old because he can't sleep more than 45 mins in a go day or night. I know this is because of his sleep cycle and he can't get himself back to sleep after the first cycle.

I've tried ssh/pat a lot but he doesn't like the sssh or the pat.  I can get him to settle (unswaddled as he also doesn't like that!) but then how do I get him in his cot. If he's asleep he hasn't learnt anything and wakes up wondering where I went,  but if he's awake he just gets really cross that I've put him down when he'd been nice and comfy and relaxed in my arms.  I've tried sshsing while he's in his cot but that makes him more agitated, i've tried just keeping my hand on his tummy but with the same results.  I've let him cry with my hand on his tummy for up to 15mins  but he just gets more and more worked up and so do I. How do I teach him to go to sleep without a prop.  I should say we have been using a dummy some of the time so he's now develped that as a prop!

I've also been so tired I have been bringing him into bed with me at night to feed and both falling asleep together which I know has made the problem much worse but I've just been too tired to do anything else

during the day I have to put him in his pushchair for his naps as I have two other young children and need to do school runs etc. After 3 days of 'sleep training' he now only takes about 10mins to settle but with the help of some pushing and when he wakes after his 40mins and I get there in time to push a little will settle back, if I don't push he will just cry and cry.

We are all so sleep deprived I can't even think straight. Any help gratefully recieived.

Hi,

I had a chronic short napper and he is now better (though new issues take over of course!).  Hang in there - I know it is tough, but can only imagine trying to cope with 2 other LOs.

Have you read the chapter on independent sleep and pick-up-put-down in the BWSAYP? (http://www.amazon.com/Whisperer-Solves-Problems-Teaching-Questions/dp/0091902517/ref=sr_1_3/102-0049013-5270537?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1189889986&sr=8-3)

You can get a lot of this info on these boards as well https://babywhispererforums.com/index.php?board=89.0  https://babywhispererforums.com/index.php?board=86.0, but personally I found referring back to the book the easiest way to take in Tracy's philosophies and understand how to use her methods.  DS and I are proof that PU/PD works, by the way; I did it when DS was 5 months.  It is gruelling but surprisingly quick.

IMO you need to teach your LO how to go to sleep on his own in the cot, that way you will both gain your freedom (and you, your sanity).

You will find friends in a similar position on this board https://babywhispererforums.com/index.php?topic=69789.msg1026045#new - I highly recommend posting here, you may even get some new ideas.

Hope that helps to start you off.
