Could I be doing EASY better?
« on: September 24, 2007, 05:14:48 am »
My ds is almost 8wks old and is still up twice a night. I have tryed doing a Df with him several different times but he either wont wake up enough to suck or he wakes up even more then usual, so I gave up on it. This is his schedule right now.
If there's anything I could do better the suggestions would be great. I am exhausted and would love to lose one of the night feeds if I could ;)
8am or 8:30feed,
11am or 11:30 feed,
3pm feed,
6pmfeed,
8pm clusterfeed (straight to bed),
feeds at 1am and 4:30am,
wakes around 7:30am and most mornings isent hungry until around 8 or 8:30am.(this I find a bit strange because somedays he'll want to eat when he wakes but he will only take 2oz)
I tend to start my schedule for the day by his first bottle, he eats 4oz every 3hrs after that. It usually stays the same though.
Thanks Tracey

hi Tracey

in addition to feeding times could you also post nap/sleep times? it would help us see the whole thing better.

BUT what I can tell you now is that at 8 weeks 2 wake ups/feedings per night is very very normal. I guess if you manage to go down to 1 feeding per night any time soon it would be great but don't worry if you don't - he's still a tiny baby and feeding at night is just what he needs.

Thanks Monika for responding to my post.
When it comes to getting sleepy for naps Noah is pretty textbook from what I can see so far . He will eat and about an hour and 15mins later starts to yawn and get sleepy. His first morning nap is really good and he will fall asleep in his bed by himself but as the day goes on he has a harder time napping. I find somedays by dinner time he's exhausted because he sleeps 2omins at a time and then will wake up again. I know I need to work on the napping a bit more.
He's a big boy though(14pounds at 6.5wks old :o ) Thats why I thought with his weight that would help carry him thru the night. I guess I'll just keep doing what I've  been doing and cross my fingers that something will happen soon.
Thanks Tracey

from what you wrote, i think you're doing great!  My DD's 3 months already and we still have 2 night feeds.  Your naps look great too.  So congratulate yourself!  =)  I'm sure it's tiring but you're doing way better than most moms and their LOs could hope for.  Things got better for us progressively and they will for you too sooner than you think =)

Tracey, have you tried holding him through the jolts at the 20 min mark? lots of babies tend to wake after 15~20 minutes and for some it helps if you hold their legs and arms [I mean if you put some pressure on them] at the 15~20 min mark.
have you tried pat/shush yet?

Monika,
I have tryed pat/shss and it worked for a while but most days it doesn't. I also have a hard time doing it because I have maddy running around the house unsupervised which is a scary thing ;) I will try to go in at the 20 min mark and hold his hands though. Thanks for the advice.

Or swaddle?

Hey Hun, hang in there...my only advice again is swaddling...it really worked wonders for us. meg just couldn't sleep without being swaddled. give it a try.
 I love you
