25 month old waking at 430-515am
« on: September 25, 2007, 16:04:13 pm »
Hi,

Just looking for some help with our daughter who is waking anywhere from 4:30 am to 5:30 am every morning.  This has been going on for the past 3+ weeks. She has always been a fantastic sleeper.  No problems putting her down for naptime or bedtime. Her nap is 1230 or 100ish and usually 1.5 to 2 hours long. She then goes down at 730pm with no problems. I've twice attempted to move her nap to 1130/1200ish only to have her freak out and scream in her bed. On returning to the later nap, she goes down no problem.  My question is, should I be waking her from her nap cuz it's too long or should i try to slowly move her nap to earlier in the day?  I'm at my whits end as I am unable to fall back asleep when she wakes at the 4 o'clock hour. When it's that early, I turn her music on and tell her to go back to bed as Mr. Sunshine is still asleep. Or if it's after 530, she crawls into our bed but doesn't go back to sleep. I get up for work at 545ish and my husband at 630. I'm so freaking tired!!!  She is all happy and awake!  ARGH!

Thanks for the help.

Do you think she might be teething?

I would also try an earlier nap & bedtime.... but don't move it 1hr earlier cause you want her body to adjust slowly... so try 15mins earlier every few days & maybe she'll take better to the change?

I would also wake earlier from nap to get her down earlier for the night

Does she seem tired & irritable in the morning or during the day at all?

I suspect the 2 year molars are trying to make an appearance. She's had her fingers in her mouth on and off lately. Within the last 2 weeks we have phased out the use of her sucker (nuk). that's been the only real change. She's somewhat tired around 9ish but on the whole, is happy and normal.

Dont know if this will help you, but ds started needing less sleep, it seemed overnight, when he turned two. I wasnt sure what was happening as he had a history of EW's due to being OT. In the past a few early nights to bed fixed the EW's however this time the earlier I put him to bed the earlier he woke. The difference was he was happy during the day with the less sleep, and we had no other problems with NW's etc. She now he is getting 10 hours at night with 2 during the day, and I have very slowly moved his bed time from 7-730 to 8-830.

I put dd to bed at 8pm last night and she woke shortly before 545am. Slightly better than yesterday with her on 730pm bedtime routine. We'll try it again for the next couple of nights and see how she responds.

Well...I've given the put to bed later a try for our dd early morning wakenings and it has made no difference. I think I've fallen into accidental parenting now and need some help trying to get back on track. These issues seemed to all begin with the removal of her sucker (nuk). We did a gradual plan with that til she was no longer asking for it. Now for the past month she wakes anywhere between 430 and 530 am calling out for me, crying, asking to get up. I've gone and gotten her, pulled her into our bed where she plays or sometimes even falls asleep again. I'm thinking she's just not settling herself like she used to if and when she awakes at this ungodly hour. NOW, I've perpetuated the whole problem. I'm wondering how to address it....tell her it's still nighty nights and leave her to cry, snuggle her and put her back down in her crib, stay outside the door and reassure her.....aagghh!!  I'm tired. Help!  :-\
