Need advice for 3mo night waking!
« on: September 25, 2007, 22:39:31 pm »
My 3 mo. old champ has recently suffered a move from the UK to Canada and we are having trouble settling into his new home.  He has started waking at 2.24 am every morning (no kidding, on the dot every night!), and then wakes every hour for at least half an hour until it is time to feed him at 7:00 am.  He has a soother which he typically gives a good five minute suck before spittting out and falling to sleep.  During these night wakings, he just won't take it or keep it in.  HAs anyone tried the wake to Sleep with any luck?

His schedule is roughly as follows:

(Keep in mind that the Champ doesn't nap very well...)

7:00 Feed
7:30-9:00 Play
9:00-9:45 Sleep...if we are lucky
10:00 Feed
10:15-11:00 Play
11-11:30 Nap
11:30-1:00 more play
1:00 Feed
1:30-3:15 - Play
3:15-4:00 nap (sometimes)
4:00 Feed
4:30-5:45 - Play
5:45-6:15 - catnap
7- Feed
7:30 - bath and bedtime
11:00 pm DF

Any advice would be most welcome!!!

Hi and welcome to the boards!

That was a big move you just made.  I hope you are settling in, well besides the sleep issues.

If he is waking every night at the same time you should give w2s a try.  It has worked for several people.  I used it with Claire to extend naps when she was little. It does take a few days to work so I would do it for 3-5 nights and then see if he still wakes.

Looking at your routine I think he may also be overtired. Have you tried extending his naps?  His A time seems a bit long for a baby his age.  2 hours in the morning is about what Claire was doing at 5.5-6 months.

I would try a routine that looks a bit like this:
7:00 wake and eat
8:30 nap (try for 1.5 hours)
10:00 eat
11:30 nap 1.5 hours
2:00 eat
3:30 nap 1.5 hours
5:00 eat
7:00 eat and bedtime
10:00 df

It seems that he often takes the dreaded 45 minute naps.  Many babies struggle with that.  Have a look in the nap forum for ways to get over that milestone. It is tough. I used w2s and it worked.
Hope that helps
Myia
