Can a 4.5 month old live on 4 BF's a day?
« on: October 02, 2007, 20:36:38 pm »
Hi!

My 4.5 month old (17 lbs) is on 5 Breast feeds a day (7,11,3,7,11:30pm)... but his 7am and 11am feeds are really weak. 1/2 a boob (Whereas his 3,7, and 11:30 pm are almost both boobs)

Is it possible that he only needs 4 BFs a day or is it more the case that his 11:30pm BF is too late and is throwing off his 7am and 11am feeds?

Thanks in advance for all your input:-)

Don't know the answer, just marking my place 'cause I'd like to find out, too!

Is he waking for the 11:30 feed?  Have you tried a dreamfeed closer to 10?

I was letting him wake... when he was younger I couldn't get him to feed - too sleepy.
Last night I went in at 11:30 and he fed well.
I am thinking about waking him at 11:15pm to see if the 7am feed improves....
I wish I could move it back to 10pm or 10:30... do u think it is too big of a jump to try that tonight? I still want to start the feeds at 7am:-)

Thoughts?

You may want to adjust it slowly back to 10/10:30.  On the other hand, he isn't feeding great at 7, so he may be fine with a quick adjustment.

It is sooo tempting... maybe a 10:45 feed - I'll meet you in the middle;-)
I think he could have easily gone until 8am this morning.... I think I may be safe bringing it back 45 minutes...
Sure hope so - At least I am getting 7 hrs straight sleep - except for the 2 yo who keeps trying to wake up closer to 6am... ARG!;-)
