lunch ideas- 3 year old
« on: October 04, 2007, 00:18:51 am »
I feel like Ben is eating the same sort of things for lunch.  I'm looking for some fresh ideas...I think the severe sleep deprivation I'm experiencing has left me unimaginative!    We do the usual sandwiches and sometimes leftovers from the night before.  He also likes to snack so I've been trying to cut back on that so he eats 3 healthy meals and then some snacks mixed in.

Help!  TIA

Here are some of the things we do to keep lunch from being boring.

A sandwhich is more fun when rolled up in a whole wheat tortilla.  We sometimes put turkey and cheese in a tortilla and put it in the toaster oven for a few minutes.

Once a week we have rainbow lunch.  We try to have four colors on our plate.  Yes, the lunch might not look like lunch but I can get her to eat "red" grape tomatoes, "yellow" slice of cheese, "purple" grapes, and "white" cottage cheese.  She thinks its fun to eat a rainbow and I feel great about the very healthy lunch.

We buy frozen Boca burgers (thanks to MDHmommy) cook and cut them into strips. Claire likes to dip them like fries.

Hope that helps.

My 3 year old is the fussiest eater in the WORLD ( >:(   ::)) and I just made a list of all the things I am going to try for lunch over the next few months.  Hoping if he sees new things OVER AND OVER again, he mite try something new!  That's the plan anyway!   :D

So my list looks like this:

*  Grilled cheese / toasted cheese sandwiches
* tin spagetti O's and toast
* mini pizza's (on english muffin bases)
* scrambled eggs
* Cut out shapes of french toast
* Omlette (lots of breakfast ideas  ::) but he only like his cereal at brekky time!)
* Fish fingers
* Ravioli / tortelli
* Jacket potatoes with cheesy fillings

That's all I got on my list so far.  I just made up a batch of Annabel Karmel's Meatballs and also her chicken balls so I have those in the freezer too.

Sorry, had a few more ideas!

*  Home made chicken nuggets (much healthier!  ;))
*  Nacho's - you could make a kinda tomato-y salsa yourself with lots of veggies mixed in
*  Little hamburgers - you could make the meat patties yourself (with lots of veggies mixed in!  :D) or buy some
*  Savoury muffins - like bacon, corn and cheese etc

Hmmm.... will keep thinking!

Great ideas ladies!  Thank you so much.  Ben really likes soup so now that the weather is turning cooler (or at least should be ::)), maybe I'll make some soup and wraps!

I was just going to suggest Chilli too, Hunter loves the stuff.

Can't think of anything that hasn't been mentioned though.
