3 YEAR OLD NEEDS HELP
« on: October 25, 2007, 12:19:41 pm »
OK...so  I have a really good friend who is desperate for help!! She has listened to me rave about BW but never actually tried it with her son, and now she is in trouble!!  Her 3 year old son is NOT sleeping at night. He wants her there ALL the time! I know she "created a monster" But I was wondering if anyone had/has experience with trying  to implement any BW ideas or techiniques for a child that old????
All ideas and advice welcome...she is 6 months pregnant and can NOT deal with both once this new baby arrives!!!! LOL

THANKS!

lots of people still use BW techniques for older LOs,just possibly she might have to adapt it.
my first thought would be to use GW if he hasn't been sleep trained before.is she able to set up another bed in his room (just thinking of the poor woman laying on the floor 6 mths preggers!!).
just a few questions
has he always been a night waker?
Is he still napping?
Does he go to sleep independently at any time?
will give you a link for sleep training aimed at toddlers so let me know what you think

He never slept well ay night.
Shes talking about letting him CIO...so I need some quick ideas for her so she doesnt resort to this!!

Robin
I'd be tempted to use WI/WO although he hasn't been sleep trained b4.That way he knows mum comes back but its sleep time.
i'd be tempted to start with his nap first and then work on nights.basically she'll have a bit more stamina during the day than during the night.

At that age a mixture of WiWo and PD (honestly) seems to help. Whenever he gets up, put him back down, say night night, go back out. First night will be like 200 times and UTTER exhaustion, second night less...

So as soon as he gets out of bed when she leaves the room she should carry him to his bed, say night night (and his name) and then leave. Then he'll try and get out again, thing repeats...

I've seen that work  ;D
