Daylight Savings... grrr...
« on: October 27, 2007, 13:59:43 pm »
Hiya!

My twin boys have been on EASY from very early on.  Generally speaking, we do really well, although they're still waking for a breastfeed in the night somewhere between 2 and 5 and we have battled A LOT with early wake-ups!

Anyhow, thankfully they now seem to realise that 6:30 to 7 is a reasonable time to start their day.  However, we now have to deal with the clocks going back so, of course, a 6:30 wake-up is going to become 5:30!  How do I adjust to this?  Our routine is not strict enough time-wise for me to just adjust exact times daily although I suspect that's what I have to do!  And perhaps we'll just have to put up with a few very early mornings whilst they adjust!  Any other ideas though?

Our routine is pretty much like this:-

7 - Wake up and breastfeed
8 - Breakfast
10 - Morning nap (1 to 1.5 hours)
11 (or on waking) - Breastfeed
12 - Solids lunch
2 - Bottle of formula (7ozs offered, normally just 3 or 4 taken - depends on time of last bf and size of lunch!)
2:15 - Nap (1 to 1.5 hours) (I offer for them to finish their bottle on wake-up if they didn't take much first time round!)
5 - Solids dinner
6 - Bath
6:30 - Breastfeed and lights out at 7

Thanks!

Vicky

No advice, but yeah, I'm weirded out about daylight savings as well.  I'll be interested in what some more experienced mom's did in the past.

Vicky,
When the time changed last year we started about a week out and tried to adjust the day by 10 minutes each day. It wasn't too tough really.  At 8 months you should be able to stretch them 10 minutes a day.  You don't have to do it all at once, maybe add 5 minutes A time in the morning and 5 at night.  Don't sweat it. It seems that often moms are really worried but it doesn't generally cause too many problems.

That said we are moving this week and the times change so we will have a two hour difference!   :o  I think we will be getting up a little early for a couple of days.  ::)

You might try keeping them up JUUUUST a few minutes longer in the evening and adjusting it later every night or two and seeing if that makes a difference.

Here, a lot of the "morning" cues have to do with traffic noise, especially the commuter trains, and all that will be different when the clocks change, so IME the kids have slept later on their own, like they often do on weekends anyway. (except when we WANT them to! ;D LOL)

I've been wondering the same thing myself since my girls wake up at 5:45!!  :o  :o  :o  Does this mean they are going to be waking at 4:45!! I will not be a happy camper if that's the case.

Vicky, let us know how it goes so I can prepare myself mentally for the madness!

Yeah, in the US you'll need to set the clocks back Saturday night - Nov 3rd.
