3 week old restless all day and night
« on: November 05, 2007, 20:57:38 pm »
DS is nearly 4 weeks old and he never seems to sleep peacefully. He spends most of the day thrashing round, sleeping on and off very fitfully, crying and generally miserable. We probably have about 4 hours each day where he is just flat out, presumably from exhaustion. He was restless from 12am last night, this turned to screaming until he settled at 3am, woke at 5am for a feed, then at 8.30 was really restless. He takes his feeds really well and is gaining weight but this lack of settled sleep is really worrying me and leaving me exhausted. The only peaceful nap he had today was after his 2pm feed, he was flat out and slept until he was due his next feed at 6pm. He had a bath tonight and seemed really content for while but he is now thrashing round again downstairs with DH. He really seems to like a dummy but looses it constantly which makes him more frantic. I am dreading another night of this, he just seems wide awake but really unsettled! Is this normal behaviour?

Lizzie mum to Evie 2, and Oliver 3 weeks.

Sorry we are only responding to your post now  ??? :-[

It does sound as if his A time is a bit long for his age.  Would you mind posting his routine.  Have you started a sleep routine-what do you do when you put him down for naps and bedtime? :-[

What techniques do you use for bringing up gas/wind?

Are you breastfeeding or bottlefeeding?
