Routinue gone haywire

Sure this has been covered a thousand times so apologies for asking.
Our son (9 months) has been a pretty cool kid with a great routine, slept through the night, all in all couldn't have asked for anymore. Then....
Basically our situation is that I look after him during the day till about 3ish when my wife returns and I go to work. This worked fine but my wife had a two week holiday (teacher) and to be honest I kind of backed off a bit. Now she has returned to work (four days ago) and he seems to have developed some sleep problems. He is now quite hard work to get to sleep both for naps during the day and especially at night.
He used to sleep all night long, but now he wakes about every hour and screams. He doesn't rest until we pick him up and feed - he doesn't take much - just plays really as if he needs physical contact and then will fall asleep quite quickly until we try to put him back in his cot, when the whole process starts again.
We've tried shushing, pu/pd and this seems to make him scream even more. He seems to need to be held before he falls asleep, which we don't want obviously.
Is this because he is missing his mum during the day? What can we do to get him back to his sleeping pattern.
Many thanks.

Hi and welcome.  It is always good to have the daddies chatting as well  :)

Maybe you can post his routine-it may need some tweaking.  It may also be teething which also can play havoc with sleep..It can be that some AP that happend when mom was home and now he needs to be sleep trained again.  What do you do before nap and bed time?
