Night waking 3hrs plus.. pls help
« on: November 11, 2007, 09:05:49 am »
Hi, My DS is 13months old.  He has always been a very good sleeper, until 2 weeks ago.  Now, he has started waking around 4am and staying awake.  When he wakes, he is obviously still tired but chats away to himself, playing and crawling around his bed.  He sometimes cries but I think it is more out of frustration at being unable to sleep than anything else.  Several things have happened recently.  Firstly, we moved him to a big bed around 2 months ago with no problems.  He seemed fine with the move.  Secondly, he started to walk around two weeks ago now, tying in with the night time problem.  Also, his nap is gradually moving later and later.  His NORMAL routine is like this:

7.15 wake
8am, breakfast
11.30 nap for about 1.5hrs
1pm lunch
6pm, bedtime routine, bath, book and milk.
7.30pm bed.

He falls to sleep within 5 mins of going to bed, we always put him down awake without any problems.  He has a paci which is usually still in when I go to him in the night and also a lovie.

Is it a milestone thing with the walking?  If so, how long will it last?  I am a working Mum and now so tired.

Many thanks

Troi

Scotty was teething molars at that age and his sleep was terrible for about 3 weeks but then settled back to normal. I'd say try and not fall back to props and it will sort itself out... He may also have sore muscles from the walking.

Hugs, it's frustrating I know  :-*

have you tried an earlier bedtime? may help him to catch up on his sleep due to waking early and the NWs.
Walking does impact on their sleep for a little while unfortunately.

I would also suggest an earlier bedtime. How long has he been on 1 nap for? If the nap ends at 1pm you really want him to be in bed by 6:30pm the latest!
