Peanut Butter and portion sizes
« on: November 27, 2007, 20:45:18 pm »
My DD is 2.5 yr and is a picker eater. ( surprise ::))  She does like peanut butter and will eat a banana with peanut butter on it. Sometimes she will forego the peanut butter...I try. She really doesn't eat a whole lot of fruit. She will suck on oranges to get the juice. Apples, blueberries etc are not eaten frozen cut, uncut, steamed, dipped.

Unfortunately we also don't get a lot of veggies in despite many tricks in the bag as suggested on BW site ( incl " tomato sauce "with hidden veggies) . She will still eat baby food green beans and sweet potatoes. She did eat corn on the cob for a while... not now

My sitter gives her lunch and then a whole banana with PB.
I am a little concerned over the portions and think 1/2 banana or less PB would be best but wanted to see if anyone had an idea. I could count all the calories and do it that way? Its always offered last.

She is 70% height and 50% weight so is doing fine. Any ideas on portion size for PB? Same with "dips" in general. ( 1 fat...) Thanks!!!

How much peanut butter is offered?  My lo's both like toast or a sandwich with peanut butter so a portion for me would be a light covering over a slice of bread/toast.  Re: bananas, my 14 month old eats a whole one as a snack between meals and has done for a few months.  It is fruit and it is a good source of slow release energy as it is quite starchy.  My ds would eat several per day if I let him but he gets restricted to just 1 and I try not to give them every day.  Both my kids also like grapes (cut in half for ds), strawberries, pears/apples (given whole to ds who pinches them out the fruit/veg trolley!!), satsumas, etc.  DS is better at veggies than dd and will try most things.  DD will only really eat broccoli/cauliflower at the moment, preferably covered in cheese sauce or dipped in her ketchup!!
