Hi ladies,

I'd like to ask for some advice or insight.
Since about 2 weeks, my 9,5 month old Textbook daughter has decided she is old enough to try only 1 nap a day every few days  ::) She then refuses either the morningnap or the afternoon nap and is fine untill bedtime (which I bump up to 6.15pm on those days) The next 2 days, she will be extra tired and nap very well.
This cycle then repeats : a 1-nap day; followed by 2 very good nap-days.
It is my understanding that the 2-1 switch is a rollercoaster that can last several months and that a flexible mom is in order to cope with this  ;D I don't really have a problem with this since Lena is handling it fine and her mood is good most days.

The thing is, she has been EW since about 2 weeks too and I'm wondering if this is all related or if this is a separate issue I need to deal with. She wakes between 4-5am and then will only fall back asleep after draining a 5,5 oz bottle. Her appetite is very good during the day so I'm thinking she is genuinly hungry. Also, she doesn' t really like her milk and if she weren't really hungry, I doubt she would drain the bottle in 1 go as she is doing. After drinking, she falls back asleep and goes on to 6am, 6.30am at the latest.
Our days used to be 7pm-7am so this is significantly earlier, imo.

Milestone-wise, she has just learned how to crawl and isn't very efficient at it yet and gets grizzly when she practices.
No teething that I can see (we're still all gums!)
For the record, these were her nap-hours and bedtime before the early waking-for-a-feed started:

7am wake and eat
10am-11.15am : sleep
2-4pm : sleep
7pm : bedtime (in cot at 6.45; asleep by 7pm at the latest)

Should I tackle this early feeding or let it be? She seems to like it this way but I'm not sure I'm too keen on these 6am-starts!

Thanks for any insight,

Sophie

I honestly think she is too young to switch to 1 nap.  If you do now you may end up with a very OT baby-lots of NW and EW then.  The Ew may be a growth spurt as you said, but then it shouldn't last longer than 2-3 days.  I will keep giving 2 naps and what I used to do is to leave lo in cot for the duration of the nap provided she doesn't start crying).  At least she gets some quite time.  They will often fall asleep after 40min or so and then wake her when she was due to wake up.  On days when she doesn't take pm nap I will go with a even earlier bedtime of 5.30-6pm.

I know she isn´t ready for 1 nap, she just thinks she is  ;)
I do exactly what you say : keep her in her cot for the duration of the nap and then an early bedtime.
That said, we are now on day 3 of good naps (meaning 2 good naps a day), went down without a problem.

This morning, she woke up from DH´s alarmclock at 5.15am, drank her bottle and then slept on untill 7am. So no EW either.

I have no idea what the reason could be for those mornings where she doesn´t sleep longer, really. Just thought I´d ask if any of you know if the 2-1 switch is related to the EW.

Thanks,

Sophie

My girls were notorious EWs, a fellow BW on my BC suggested they were getting too much day sleep. So now I don't let them sleep more than 3 hours per day, and they sleep about 11 hours per night. That could be it.

Also several women in my BC feed their babies at 5am and then said babies go back to sleep until 7 or later. They call it a reverse Dream Feed. Maybe that's what your bubba needs.

Just some thoughts.
