Freezing purees
« on: December 17, 2007, 13:36:18 pm »
Hi

was just wondering, I am starting today with some purees after having used baby rice for a few weeks twice a day. My question is when I make a puree and want to use formula to make the consistency more runny, do I put the formula in before I put it in the ice cube tray or do i add the formula when i'm just about to feed it to him, probably a stupid question but thought I'd better maek sure! ;)

I always added the milk at time of feeding - I make up my btls for the day and keep them in the fridge so just took a little of one if I needed it.  However, I always found that once defrosted the puree was a bit more runny anyway.  Let it defrost first, then heat it up and give it a good stir.  If you need milk, add it at this point and see how it looks.  If I was really behind sched or just not on top of things and had no milk handy I would just add a drop of hot water.  Hope he likes it.  My two were very hit and miss in the beginning but they are eating me out of house and home now... I freeze the puree as is.  Then once defrosted i see what the consistency is then.  If I need to I thicken it with some baby rice instead.
