Hi,
My 14-mth-old has just been through a rotten time with a v.bad chests needing 2 doc.visits and 2 Emerg. half days at the hospital. Naturally, (this wstarted a week ago and ended a week Saturday pm) I have helped him overcome his fear of me leaving his room at nap/bedtime by laying him down and holding a hand on his bum.
Whilst this is all god stuff for getting him off to sleep (we no longer need to go in to re-settle him at night if he wakes which we did a week ago), how do I correctly wean him off ? DH maanged to walk straight out as normal at bedtime 2 nights ago but I had to stay last night as he cried out when I set about leaving.
My LO is actually only 12 months corrected at the end of December so I don't want to push him too hard but I need a break and he needs to re-learn going to sleep alone. Do I gradually stop the holding and move away from the crib till I'm out of the room w/o touching him ? Could there be SA in there too ? He seems to need me around a lot more during the daytime too these days (no teeth coming).
I just want to do this right as we'd only just gone to 1 nap and later (post-6am !) wakeups....
Thx so much,
Deb x
